Del policial clásico al post-neopolicial
Del policial clásico al post-neopolicial: La estética del crimen en la narrativa mexicana, 1940–2020 is a comprehensive study of Mexican crime fiction from cultural, gender, social, political, and literary perspectives. This book covers the different phases Mexican crime fiction has evolved through in the past eighty years: classical detective fiction (1940–1960s), género negro (1970s), neopolicial (1980–2000), narconarrative (1990s to the present), and post-neopolicial (2000 to the present). The first half of the book offers an overview of the development of crime fiction in the United States, how it was adopted by Mexican writers in the 1940s, and the changes it went through in its various phases. Writers studied include, among others, Paco Ignacio Taibo II, Rafael Ramírez Heredia, and Juan Hernández Luna. In addition, the author of this book coins a new term, post-neopolicial, to describe the most current form of crime fiction in the twenty-first century as exemplified in a corpus of novels that depict the realities of contemporary Mexico. The second half of the book focuses on the evolution of crime fiction by Mexican women writers from the 1940s to the present: from the classic detective formula to contemporary realistic narratives protagonized by subversive female characters in the works of María Elvira Bermúdez, Margos de Villanueva, Rosa Margot Ochoa, Ana María Maqueo, Carmen Boullosa, Myriam Laurini, Susana Pagano, Liliana Blum, Cristina Rivera Garza, Ana Ivonne Reyes Chiquete, Orfa Alarcón, Malú Huacuja del Toro, and others.
The text sets out the reasons why it was thought to juxtapose the “Sud” group, active in post-World War II Naples, with the one called Bloomsbury, named after the London neighborhood that in the early decades of the twentieth century was home to the intellectuals who made it famous. In fact, the two communities turned out to be significantly related: both constituted by relations at the same time intellectual, political and affective, both cultivated innovative projects on the level of thought and custom, cultivated the civilizing force of culture and literature and believed in utopia, recognizing themselves as promoters of a “renaissance” of their respective realities. The environment and atmosphere of Rea's youth, marked first by the magazine “Sud” and then by that of “The Narrative Reasons,” are thus placed in full light and enhanced in the perspective of the intellectual biography of the writer whose centennial is being celebrated. The interventions that follow then explore Rea's own relationship with, respectively, Mario Stefanile, Luigi Incoronato, Anna Maria Ortese, Raffaele La Capria, and Michele Prisco. While the city of Naples, as a text and as a paradigm of thought, serves as a backdrop for the various reflections; Rea's language and style are subjected to an enlightening revisiting; and the rereading of the two journals, “Sud” and “Le ragioni narrative,” allows us to profitably scan the writer's career.
In contrast to the other EU countries, Luxembourg has an almost 100 per cent student mobility rate (apart from the coronavirus pandemic). Although there is a long and still practised tradition of studying completely abroad (degree mobility), as well as comprehensive short-term mobility (credit mobility) at the University of Luxembourg, few academic studies are dedicated to Luxembourg students studying abroad. This publication partially fills this gap. Based on narrative interviews and an online survey, it examines how stays abroad are organised by credit and degree students from Luxembourg and what significance they have for young people. Not only the what, but also the how and, above all, the why of studying abroad are examined. The different orientations of degree and credit students show that the norm of study-related mobility in Luxembourg is questioned by young people. In addition, various roles of parents and peers in the process of student mobility make it clear that time abroad cannot be seen as a context-free part of young people's lives. Rather, study-related mobility is discussed in this study as a special and multidimensional biographical moment on the threshold of adulthood. In addition, the two forms of study-related mobility - degree and credit - are systematically compared with each other, as this perspective has been neglected in previous debates.
Publishe
Misurare la fragilità negli anziani
The steady ageing of the population poses growing challenges for welfare systems, given the rising number of older individuals living with compromised health. In this context, the concept of “frailty” plays a crucial role: being able to identify frail individuals means detecting early signs of vulnerability and guiding targeted preventive interventions. This volume explores the theoretical and methodological foundations of the various perspectives on frailty, offering a comprehensive and structured overview of the tools currently available for its measurement. Readers are guided through a structured journey that encompasses key definitions, measurement tools, and methodological approaches. Each element is examined with regard to its strengths, limitations, and empirical applicability, through a statistical and methodological lens and with careful attention to data sources. In addition to physical frailty, significant attention is given to cognitive and social frailty – dimensions often overlooked but essential to an integrated and multidimensional understanding of the phenomenon. This resource is designed for healthcare professionals, social workers, statisticians, researchers, and policy makers who aim to study, measure, and address frailty through a rigorous, quantitative approach
Dioptrice
Kepler's Dioptrice is a seminal work in the fields of optics and astronomy. Written in response to the ground-breaking telescopic discoveries announced by Galileo Galilei in March 1610, the Dioptrice contained the first theory of the telescope—a theory that Kepler was uniquely qualified to develop--and provided an essential foundation for modern geometrical optics.
In the preface, Kepler highlights several examples of the close links which, then as now, exist between optics and astronomy. His excitement about Galileo's new observations is palpable, especially the discoveries of the four moons orbiting Jupiter and the phases of Venus. Both discoveries lent crucial support to the Copernican system, of which Kepler had been an ardent supporter since his days as a student in Tübingen.
The Dioptrice is available here in a complete English translation for the first time, along with an introduction and numerous notes to help guide the reader through Kepler's text

Shaping Film Festivals In a Changing World
This volume is a collective attempt on the part of a community of academics, film festival curators, and archivists to come to terms with practical and intellectual challenges of the pandemic and post-pandemic realities affecting cultures of film festivals. The collection draws contours of critical inquiry orienting current film festival research and practice to explore new directions in archiving and decolonizing practices and big data analysis in the post-Covid-19 context and beyond. The four-part study gathers the voices of academics and practitioners who engage in a dialogue to articulate critical areas for both study and practice of film festivals, and identifies conceptual tools to address them: “Archival Turn,” “Decolonizing Film Festival Studies,” “Post-Covid-19 and Film Festival Studies” and “Data Visualization and Film Festival Research and Practice.
