Chromatic Visions
This open access book explores the challenges and opportunities of preserving, reconstructing, exhibiting, and communicating the phenomenon of colour change in heritage collections and artworks through advanced digital technologies, from the perspectives of the authors, many of whom belong to renowned institutions around Europe. Developed within the Horizon Europe project PERCEIVE, this is the first of two volumes offering a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to chromatic heritage. Focusing on perception, historical transformations of colour, digital heritage design, and civic participation, the book introduces five key scenarios: from ancient polychrome sculpture and paintings to textiles, historical photographs, and digital-born artworks. Through these, it investigates how colour can be experienced, interpreted, and cared for in both physical and virtual spaces. Combining scientific investigations and concept-oriented design, the volume presents new methodologies based on the concepts of care, authenticity, civic participation and accessibility. It is an essential resource for researchers, curators, designers, and all those engaged in the digital transformation of cultural heritage

Nuclear Power
This open access book offers a comprehensive overview of nuclear technologies and the nuclear supply chain. It explores nuclear energy as a critical resource through economic, geopolitical, and social lenses, assessing its potential role in combating climate change. The book also addresses key challenges, including nuclear waste management, decommissioning, and back-end operations. By examining both historical hurdles and future policy and industry obstacles, it provides valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and industry professionals navigating the evolving landscape of nuclear energy
Bridging the Gap Between AI and Reality
This open access book constitutes selected papers of the proceedings of the Third International Conference on Bridging the Gap between AI and Reality, AISoLA 2025, which took place in Rhodes, Greece, in November 2025. The papers included in this book focus on the following topics: AI assisted programming; digital humanities; approaches of using formal methods and ai in health care; models for trustworthy autonomous systems; responsible and trusted AI; safe autonomous vehicles; statistical model checking; verification and learning for assured autonomy; verification for neuro-symbolic artificial intelligence
Legal Perspectives for a Sustainable Circular Economy
The open access book invites readers to critically address the new model of a Sustainable Circular Economy also from the legal point of view, tracing new perspectives in order to fairly orient the law in this systemic paradigm transition. The paradigm shift towards a Sustainable Circular Economy is at the core of the EU policy agenda, aiming at revolutionizing the whole economic productive model that characterizes our contemporary society. However, the legal dimension is often underestimated in this framework. Actually, the legal system cannot resort to old schemes if it wants to respond properly to new challenges. In order to achieve effectively the indicated objectives of social progress, it is decisive that also the legal dimension of a Sustainable Circular Economy, and so the regulation of the market and the society on which it impacts, is designed consistently with an innovative approach. That is why this research intends to promote a general reconceptualization of existing legal configurations, exploring new perspectives to strengthen the role of individuals in the socio-economic system, as aware ‘human’ beings that, as such, take care of the world they live in
Functional Diseases of the Esophagus
This is an open access book on the pathophysiology, diagnosis and surgical techniques of functional diseases of the esophagus. In the past, these diseases were only studied and treated in a few centres. However, in the last thirty years, thanks to the advent of laparoscopic surgery, interest in these pathologies has broadened considerably, and not only from a surgical point of view: new diagnostic technologies have in fact been developed that have led to more appropriate classifications and endoscopic treatments have been proposed with excellent results; in addition, robotic surgery is emerging in specialised centres and is likely to replace the laparoscopic approach
Let’s Talk AI
This unique open access volume represents an interdisciplinary dialog with top-class researchers and practitioners on the Artificial Intelligence revolution. The contributions derive from structured interviews with community leaders who examine recent developments in AI and offer predictions about its impact on science, technology, business, and society. The interviewees, leading thinkers and practitioners from fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Philosophy, Psychology, and Law, gathered at the multidisciplinary event AISoLA, where they discussed developments in AI technologies, tools, and research, and these exchanges were shaped into this coherent survey. In the debates surrounding the rapid advancement of AI it’s clear that while there is much sharing of ideas, in fact true cooperation and alignment is rare, most fields still operate in silos. Given the pervasive nature of AI, it’s critical that we move forward carefully to ensure that our decisions and progress are well-considered. This book serves as a call to action, reminding us of our collective responsibility to shape the future. The authors offer points of agreement and contrast, the reader will better understand how we may still maintain control over technological progress in AI and its societal impact

Quantitative History of China
This Open Access book marks the beginning of a new era in the study of Chinese history. Since the beginning of the computer age, quantitative techniques have been increasingly used to study specific topics like family, population, and living standards in China's past. However, sample sizes have usually been small due to either historical archives' availability constraints or limited human processing capacity. With much increased computing power and machine-assisted reading/processing capacity, many big historical databases have become available, offering quantitative historians and social scientists great opportunities to study China's past development experience. This volume showcases a collection of new findings concerning China's political, social, and economic history and typically based on newly constructed large historical datasets. Most of the work has involved an interdisciplinary team of economists, sociologists, political scientists, historians and econometricians, demonstrating how new big data and quantitative methods may be brought to bear on some of the biggest questions related to China's development over the past three millennia and on the implications of distant past events on contemporary China. Topics covered range from the roles of war, state formation, religion, culture, finance and institutions in long-run development and technological innovations, to regicide history, to the organization and capacity of the bureaucracy. Contributors include leading figures in the quantitative study of China's long-run socioeconomic and political history. This volume will be of value to anyone with an interest in Chinese economic, political, social and/or institutional history as well as anyone interested in quantitative history more generally
