Illegal wildlife products as tourist souvenirs – an outline of the problem from the perspective of Poland

    Get PDF
The article aims to outline the problem of transporting illegal plant and animal souvenirs by tourists and to analyse the issue from the perspective of Poland. Tourists’ interest in buying wildlife souvenirs is varied, ranging from live animals and plants to food products, leather and wooden goods, and medicines. Travellers buying illegal souvenirs of plant and animal origin often unwittingly contribute to the extinction of the most endangered plant and animal species. The number of CITES specimens seized in Poland annually is approximately 134 between 2009 and 2018 on average. In 2018 alone, nearly 14 thousand specimens were confiscated. These confiscations were largely directed towards Ukraine. However, despite the fact that the problem is acknowledged in the country, and legal regulations have been introduced to counteract it, the tourism sector seems to be oblivious to the problem, and the subject does not appear in the scope of activities pursued by organizations related to the development and promotion of tourism. So far it has rarely been mentioned in the scientific literature, including the field of tourism. The authors hope that the presented analyses will draw attention to the problem and lead to the implementation of more sustainable practices In Polish tourism

The article (part 1 and 2) presents the results of the research into external and internal factors contributing to the increase in the effectiveness of vocational education and training, and to preparing future graduates of vocational schools for entering the labour market. The analysis was made in the context of the changes observed in vocational education and training in the years 2012‒2016, taking into account the reform of the education system introduced on 1 September 2017. The identification of vocational qualifications in order to make it easier for students to acquire the learning outcomes defined in the core curriculum for training for particular occupations was the main feature of the new model of vocational education and training introduced in 2012. The Integrated Qualifications System, which aims to bring vocational education and training closer to the labour market, plays a special role here. The article discusses the issues of the Integrated Qualifications System, which ensures the comparability of qualifications awarded in Poland with those acquired in other EU Member States. Shaping the system of education, and vocational education and training in particular, by adopting legal regulations gives raise to the following questions: To what extent can formal and legal changes impact on social and educational reality? Can you change the world with reforms? Do subsequent reforms bring a positive change? Does the system of education become more effective thanks to them?W artykułach (część I i II) przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczące czynników zewnętrznych i wewnętrznych mających wpływ na zwiększenie efektywności kształcenia w zawodach oraz przygotowania absolwentów szkół zawodowych do rynku pracy. Analizę przeprowadzono w kontekście przemian w edukacji zawodowej w latach 2012– 2016 z uwzględnieniem wdrażanej od 1 września 2017 roku reformy systemu oświaty. Założeniem wprowadzonego w 2012 roku modelu kształcenia w szkolnictwie zawodowym było wyodrębnienie kwalifikacji w zawodach celem ułatwienia uczniom osiągania efektów kształcenia określonych w podstawie programowej. Szczególną rolę odgrywa Zintegrowany System Kwalifikacji, którego ideą jest powiązanie kształcenia zawodowego z rynkiem pracy. W artykule poruszono kwestie Zintegrowanego Systemu Kwalifikacji, który stwarza możliwość porównania kwalifikacji uzyskanych w Polsce z kwalifikacjami nadawanymi w innych państwach członkowskich Unii Europejskiej. Modelowanie systemu oświatowego, w szczególności kształcenia zawodowego przez regulacje prawne skłania do pytania: Do jakiego stopnia zmiany formalnoprawne mogą zmienić rzeczywistość społeczną, rzeczywistość edukacyjną? Czy reformami możemy zmienić świat? Czy rzeczywiście korzystną zmianą są kolejne reformy a system oświatowy zwiększa swoją efektywność

A discussion on the quality of initial teacher education held in the European Union and a declining number of candidates for teacher training programmes are the reasons for an empirical exploration of candidates’ motives to choose a teaching career. International research provides knowledge on the topic, hence the article’s focus on theoretical and empirical analysis of Polish and Portuguese students’ motives for choosing ITE, as compared to their place of residence. 308 students (163 from Poland and 145 from Portugal) participated in the survey. The article presents survey results, which point to the dominant role of students’ own interests in choosing a degree in teaching. The prevailing number of respondents declared a village as their place of residence. When choosing a degree in teaching, the surveyed group was mainly influenced by their teachers and peer environment.

The development of the Covid-19 pandemic forced rapid and widespread use of distance learning. This mass educational \u27experiment’ has given rise to a consideration of students’ academic engagement in distance learning, as well as their satisfaction with this form of education. The following research questions were formulated in this paper: To what extent did students of these courses engage in remote education in the analysed period? How did distance learning change their engagement with studying? What meaning did remote education have on their satisfaction with studying? What advantages and disadvantaged of distance learning did the students notice? Did the mode of study (full-time/external) differentiate the students’ opinions? The subject of the study was comprised of 172 randomly selected students of management courses, i.e. Management, Economics and Logistics. The research used an online survey technique, using a categorized and standardized questionnaire (including the UWES-S tool). The results showed that according to more than half of the management courses students who were surveyed, remote learning during the Covid-19 pandemic did not reduce their engagement in their studies. There was a decrease in engagement for 42.44% of those who were surveyed and an increase for one in four respondents (25.59%). According to more than half of the students, remote learning also did not decrease their satisfaction with studying. A decrease of satisfaction with studying was reported by less than half of the respondents (39.53%) and an increase ‒ by 33.72%.Rozwój pandemii Covid-19 wymusił szybkie i powszechne zastosowanie nauczania na odległość.

Wiersze Przerwy-Tetmajera w pieśni artystycznej Karłowicza i Szymanowskiego. Część 2: Interpretacje pieśni

The above article is a continuation of the text contained in the previous issue of „Muzyka. Historia. Teoria. Edukacja”. It concerns the verbal-musical relation present in the songs of Karłowicz and Szymanowski, based on the poetry of Przerwa-Tetmajer. It only provides interpretations of the songs (the texts have been spoken in the previous section), which however have been made in a certain thematic order. The author links them with important “isms” of the era: impressionism, secession, decadence, expressionism, as well as analyses them in the context of “Young Poland antinomies” (such as “life - death”) and such motives as: the underworld, childhood, dream, love, water. In the article it is impossible to look for a discussion of all the texts by Przerwa-Tetmajer, musicalized by Karłowicz and Szymanowski, but – as the author hopes – we can find here a complete picture in terms of thematic content there. The framework of the article did not allow for a thorough analysis and interpretation of the entire material, thus the author found it necessary to limit himself to two songs, which were then examined both from the text and the music side: these songs were selected on the basis of contrast (mainly structural). In the last fragment – because we are talking about it at the moment – the author summarizes his concept of the essence of the musical-literary relationship in the song, reaching the conclusion that in this symbiosis, both poetry and music interact with each other. The above article is a continuation of the text contained in the previous issue of „Muzyka. Wymyte dziedzictwo. O Wyszogrodzie pomorskim i jego rozmiarach

    Get PDF
A significant part of the Early Medieval fortified settlement in Bydgoszcz-Fordon (former Wyszogród) was destroyed by Vistula river erosion. These days, we can find only relics of this important Pomeranian settlement. They seem to be a shadow of its original layout. This article is an attempt to restore the size of this fortified settlement with the help of available source materials, based primarily on cartographic studies. A reflection on the original shape and area of the settlement, supported by an analysis of dynamics of its destruction, is supposed to help to better understand the importance of this center during the Early Middle Ages. It will also allow to better estimate source materials that were irretrievably lost as a result of erosion

Bydgoszcz na otarcie łez. Polscy uchodźcy z ziem wschodnich w 1920 r.

In the summer of 1920, when situation started to complicate on the fronts of the Polish-Soviet War, the government decided that the Poles from the eastern lands would be deported to Pomerania and Wielkopolska, including Bydgoszcz. The Committee for Refugee Affairs was established here just like in many other towns. Poles evacuated to Bydgoszcz were coming from Minsk, Slutsk, and the Kiev area. Among them, there were many landowners with years of experience in social and political activities, including Amelia and Włodzimierz Nitosławski from the Vitebsk area and the Lipkowski family from the Uman area. Deportees comprised clerks, lawyers, teachers, and physicians. The latter ones arrived from Kiev. Students attending schools in Babruysk, Minsk, Nyasvizh, Slutsk, and Vawkavysk were also evacuated to Bydgoszcz. With them in mind, the Grammar School for Boys for the Exiles from the Eastern Borderlands was founded. The Kresowy Dormitory for boys was opened in Bydgoszcz and for girls in Chełmno. On the initiative of the exiles in Bydgoszcz, the Union of Poles from the Eastern Borderlands was established. This organization was helping the elderly, sick, and vulnerable, as well as young people attending schools. Many exiles had never returned to their homeland, since based on the Treaty of Riga their native land was no longer part of Poland. Some of the exiles included Edward Woyniłłowicz, Chairman of the Minsk Agricultural Society, the owner of Savichi and Puzovo in Slutsk County. The Poles from the Eastern Borderlands comprised a big community in Bydgoszcz, which had a significant impact on social and cultural activities in the city. They laid down a path to throngs of refugees who arrived to the areas after the end of World War II, when more lands disappeared from the map of Poland

The article describes the profile and brief career of Jan Maciaszek, the first Polish mayor of Bydgoszcz in the Second Republic of Poland. His short term lasted between January 19, 1920 and September 5, 1921. This devoted patriot and activist fighting for the independence of Poland, holding many public functions, fell victim to the anti-German manifestations and direct riots provoked by the Bydgoszcz division of the National Workers’ Party. He resigned from his post and stayed in Bydgoszcz, where he was running a well-known law firm
