    Observacions de temperatura de l'aigua del mar realitzades a L´Estartit des de 1968 fins gener de 2023. Dades recollides amb una ampolla Nansen portadora de termòmetres especials, de gran precisió per a l'observació de la temperatura. Dades addicionals que es proporcionen: a) Corrent a la superfície del mar en el moment d observació, amb direcció de procedència i força: 1, fluix; 2, moderat; 3, fort. Algunes vegades és possible observar que a les capes d aigua de més en baix el corrent és diferent que en superfície. En aquest cas, també s´hi fa constar. b) Visibilitat a través de l´aigua. En el moment de baixar l'ampolla de Nansen, la qual és pintada de color blanc,es pren nota de la fondària en que es troba en el moment enque es deixa de veure a través de l´aigua. Es expressada en metres (m). c) Vent. Direcció de procedència i força segons l'escala de Beaufort en el moment d observació. d) Estat del cel mitjà durant les hores anteriors al moment d observació. S expressa en octaus de cel cobert. e) Estat del mar en el moment d'observació. La primera xifra indica el desnivell mitjā existent entre el sí i la cresta de les ones (en metres). La segona, la distāncia mitjana entre dues crestes consecutives. A continuació s´intenta descriure el tipus d onades : ---, mar llarga; --w, mar mig arrissada; www, mar arrissada. Finalment, les inicials indiquen la direcció de procedència de les onades.Observaciones de temperatura del agua del mar realizadas en L´Estartit desde 1968 hasta enero de 2023. Datos recogidos con una botella Nansen portadora de termómetros especiales, de gran precisión para la observación de la temperatura. Datos adicionales que se proporcionan: a) Corriente en la superficie del mar en el momento de observación, con dirección de procedencia y fuerza: 1, flojo; 2, moderado; 3, fuerte. Algunas veces es posible observar que en las capas de agua de más abajo la corriente es distinta que en superficie. En este caso, también se hace constar. b) Visibilidad a través del agua. En el momento de bajar la botella Nansen, de color blanco, se toma nota de la profundidad a la que se encuentra en el momento en que dejamos de verla a través del agua. Se expresa en metros (m). c) Viento. Dirección de procedencia y fuerza según la escala de Beaufort en el momento de observación. d) Estado del cielo medio durante las horas anteriores al momento de observación. Se expresa en octavos de cielo cubierto. e) Estado del mar en el momento de observación. La primera cifra indica el desnivel medio existente entre el valle y la cresta de las ondas (en metros). La segunda, la distancia media entre dos crestas consecutivas. A continuación se intenta describir el tipo de olas: ---, mar largo; --w, mar medio rizada; www, mar rizada. Por último, las iniciales indican la dirección de procedencia de las olas.Sea water temperature observations made in L'Estartit from 1968 to January 2023. Data collected with a Nansen bottle with special thermometers, highly accurate for temperature observation. Additional data provided: a) Current at the sea surface at the time of observation, with direction of origin and strength: 1, weak; 2, moderate; 3, strong. Sometimes it is possible to observe that in the lower water layers the current is different than the surface layer. In this case, this is also noted. b) Visibility through water. When the white Nansen bottle is taken down (painted in white), it is noted the depth at which we can no longer see it through the water. It is expressed in meters (m). c) Wind. Direction of origin and strength according to the Beaufort scale at the time of observation. d) Average sky condition during the hours prior to the observation time. It is expressed in eighths of overcast sky. e) Sea state at the time of observation. The first figure indicates the average incline between the core and the crest of the waves (in meters). The second, the average distance between two consecutive crests. After that, there is an attempt to describe the type of waves: ---, long sea; --w, medium ripple sea; www, ripple sea. Finally, the initials indicate the direction of the origin of waves.</br

    Los datos que se presentan muestran evidencias sobre como la investigación aplicada en el marco de la formación universitaria en los grados de Educación Social y Trabajo Social favorece la integración de teoría y práctica, potencia la comprensión profunda del contexto de intervención, estimula el pensamiento crítico y la implicación ética, y refuerza competencias vinculadas al trabajo en red y a la autoevaluación profesional. Se concluye que la incorporación de experiencias de investigación aplicada en el currículo universitario constituye una vía eficaz para consolidar una formación profesional orientada a la toma de decisiones fundamentadas, la mejora de la intervención socioeducativa y el desarrollo de una práctica profesional basada en el conocimiento. La muestra total de estudiantes de tercer curso de ambos grados en la Facultad de Educación Social y Trabajo Social Pere Tarrés (Universidad Ramon Llull), durante los cursos 2022-2023 y 2023-2024 que han participado en la realización de este estudio, ha sido de N=70.     This dataset contains a variety of information on: environmental quality variables based on residents' opinions (from the 2021 Essential Population Characteristics Survey); housing quality variables based on the 2001 Population and Housing Survey; household income variables obtained from the 2016 Statistical Institute of Catalonia (Idescat); and variables on the distribution of people's occupation (work) according to the 2001 Population and Housing Census).     Associations between genetic variants and gene expression in porcine blood

    The transcriptome can be used as an intermediary phenotype in the search for biomarkers. In the present study we aimed to find associations between genomic variability and gene expression levels of porcine blood in order to evaluate their biomarker potential. For this reason blood was collected from 255 commercial Durocs at age 60 days. Animals were genotiped using a GGP Porcine HD Array (Illumina) and imputed to whole genome sequencing level using the PigGTEx reference population. Blood RNA-seq was performed in order to obtain gene-expression levels. Then expression Genome Wide Association Studies were performed between the resulting 8,499,177 variants and 14,642 expressed genes. Finding more than 23 million significant associations across 6,051 genes.     Polymicrobial infections promote the appearance of a network of interactions that can lead to an increase in their antimicrobial tolerance or to the evasion of the host immune system. Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Burkholderia cenocepacia are two multidrug-resistant opportunistic pathogens that significantly influence host health and alter their antibiotic response when in coinfection. Using Galleria mellonella larvae as a model, we examined infection dynamics, immune responses, and antibiotic efficacy in single and coinfections combining acute and chronic P. aeruginosa strains with B. cenocepacia. Larval survival and bacterial dissemination were monitored, revealing tissue-specific infection patterns through confocal microscopy. Larval immunity, bacterial virulence gene expressions and antibiotic susceptibility were also analyzed to characterize host-pathogen dynamics. Our findings revealed that coinfections increased larval lethality and worsened overall health, with B. cenocepacia suppressing melanization and immune responses. Moreover, acute and chronic P. aeruginosa strains increase their virulence gene expression in coinfections. In terms of treatment, an increase of antibiotic susceptibility was observed in coinfected groups compared to single-infections. This study advances understanding of host-pathogen interactions in polymicrobial infections and highlights the need for improved therapeutic strategies

    AKFruitData. This repository contents source code of two applications presented in the article https://doi.org/10.1016/j.softx.2022.101231 at the time of its publication in SoftwareX Journal. The emergence of low-cost 3D sensors, and particularly RGB-D cameras, together with recent advances in artificial intelligence, is currently driving the development of in-field methods for fruit detection, size measurement and yield estimation. However, as the performance of these methods depends on the availability of quality fruit datasets, the development of ad-hoc software to use RGB-D cameras in agricultural environments is essential. The AKFruitData software introduced in this work aims to facilitate use of the Azure Kinect RGB-D camera for testing in field trials. This software presents a dual structure that addresses both the data acquisition and the data creation stages. The acquisition software (AK_ACQS) allows different sensors to be activated simultaneously in addition to the Azure Kinect. Then, the extraction software (AK_FRAEX) allows videos generated with the Azure Kinect camera to be processed to create the datasets, making available colour, depth, IR and point cloud metadata. AKFruitData has been used by the authors to acquire and extract data from apple fruit trees for subsequent fruit yield estimation. Moreover, this software can also be applied to many other areas in the framework of precision agriculture, thus making it a very useful tool for all researchers working in fruit growing

    The class Ia ribonucleotide reductase (RNR), encoded by the nrdAB operon in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, has a long 5’ untranslated region (5’ UTR) whose regulatory role remains poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the functional significance of the nrdAB 5’ UTR using a comprehensive set of bioinformatic and experimental approaches, including gene expression profiling, relative protein levels, and in vivo infection assays in the Galleria mellonella animal model. Our results demonstrate that the 5’ UTR negatively regulates nrdA expression by reducing transcript levels, decreasing mRNA stability and limiting protein abundance. Truncation of this region led to increased expression, particularly during stationary phase, suggesting a regulatory mechanism that fine-tunes RNR activity when dNTP synthesis is no longer required. In vivo, the Δ5’ UTR mutant exhibited reduced virulence compared to the wild-type strain, accompanied by elevated nrdA mRNA levels and a modest decrease in nrdJ expression. While these changes may contribute to alter RNR regulation during infection, they are unlikely to fully explain the observed phenotype, indicating that additional factors may be involved. Although no specific regulatory elements within or acting upon the 5’ UTR were probed under the tested conditions, the possibility of such mechanisms cannot be excluded, and further studies will be needed to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. Overall, our findings demonstrate that the 5’ UTR plays a regulatory role in modulating nrdAB operon expression and contributes to maintaining RNR system homeostasis in P. aeruginos
