Evaluation of Different Levels of Ginger as Feed Additives on Growth Performance of Pregnant Red Sokoto Does and their Kids
Twenty-eight (28) Red Sokoto does (RSD) weighing on the average 17.86 kg were assigned to four different diets treatment (1,2,3 and 4). Ginger was added in different levels with treatments 2, 3 and 4 containing 250 g, 500 g and 750 g respectively in a completely randomized design. Treatment 1 was the control with 0 g ginger. The animals were fed at 4% body weight. Feed intakes, weight gain and cost implication were measured and recorded. Results showed that Red Sokoto Does (RSD) fed diet containing 0 g and 750 g levels of ginger inclusion had a significantly (P<0.05) higher total feed intake (137.71 kg and 137.70 kg) respectively than other levels. Animals fed (750 g) ginger inclusion level recorded a significantly (P<0.05) higher weight gain (10.78 kg). Feed conversion ratio was best (12.81) in the treatment fed 750 g ginger inclusion level with similar values (P>0.05) across the treatments. Kids from RSD fed 500 g ginger inclusion level recorded a significantly (P<0.05) higher weight at birth, final weight, total weight gain and daily weight gain (2.40 kg, 9.60 kg, 7.20 kg and 120.00 g) respectively. The kids were monitored from kidding to weaning stage (three months after kidding). Feeding diet containing 750 g ginger to pregnant RSD reduced the cost of feeding/kg gain by 31% compared to the control. The study revealed that levels of ginger inclusion improved weight gain of both RSD and their kids and saved feeding cost per kg weight gain of RSD
Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Convective Flow in a Porous Medium in the Presence Variable Pressure and Injection/Suction
This article investigates MHD convective flow with variable pressure and injection/suction in a porous medium. The governing equations are modeled using partial differential equations (PDEs) in dimensional form. The PDEs describes the unsteady flow of an incompressible electrically conducting fluid are expressed for the momentum, energy and concentration of the fluid flow. Also, the PDEs were transformed to non-dimensional form using some dimensional variables. Perturbation method was used to obtain the solutions for the velocity, temperature and concentration. The non-dimensional Skin friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number were obtained. Effects of physical parameters associated with the present study was examined and discussed. It was observed that the concentration, temperature and velocity of the fluid rises with increase in injection parameter and an opposite trend was observed when suction parameter became significant. It is found that the temperature of the fluid reduces as the Prandtl number increase. However, an opposite trend is seen for heat source/sink
A Generalized Family of Ratio-Product Exponential Type Estimators Using Power Transformation
In this research study, a new population mean estimator for two auxiliary variables in stratified random sampling, based on power transformation and exponential techniques, was proposed, following the approach developed by Tailor et al. in 2015. We derived the bias and mean square error (MSE) of this proposed estimator up to the second order of approximation. The conditions in which this newly proposed estimator outperforms the existing ones were obtained. Empirical findings from the study confirm the superior efficiency of the proposed estimator compared to the existing ones
Maclaurin Series Solution for Seventh Order Boundary Value Problems
Maclaurin series expansion which is taught at undergraduate levels and which has been previously used for the solution of initial value problem is successfully used in this paper for the solutions of seventh-order boundary value problems. The governing equation defined between boundary points 0 and 1is differentiated to get high order derivatives and the assumed solution is expanded in Maclaurin series then, the boundary conditions at x=1 are utilized to determined unknown coefficients. The method is simple and the numerical results displayed on the tables were found to be in good agreement with the solution and even better than some existing results in the literature. This agreement is also confirmed from the figures were the graph of exact solution and approximate solution overlap
A Computational Analysis on Steady MHD Casson Fluid Flow Across A Vertical Porous Channel Affected By Thermal Radiation Effect
This article investigates the MHD free convection flow of a Casson fluid that is electrically conductive, affected by thermal radiation effect in a vertical porous channel. The resulting solutions of the leading differential equations describing the velocity and temperature flows characteristics are obtained analytically using regular perturbation method. The actions of Casson fluid parameter, magnetic field effect, thermal radiation parameters on the velocity field, temperature distribution, skin friction coefficient and rate of heat transfer has been presented for relevant temperature jump and velocity slip conditions. The results obtained revealed that by taking varying values of the major controlling parameters, such as Casson parameter, thermal radiation parameter, magnetic field effect, rarefaction parameter and wall ambient temperature difference ratio parameter, the velocity and temperature profiles are substantially influenced. Additionally, when the Casson parameter is set to be 1000, the numerical computations of these findings agree very well with those of Abbas et al., 2020.

Effects of Suction/Injection on Free Convective Radiative Flow In A Vertical Porous Channel With Mass Transfer And Chemical Reaction
This paper presents an analysis of the effect of suction/injection on free convective flow past a vertical porous plate under the action of thermal radiation and chemical reaction when heat is supplied to the plate at constant rate. The governing equations are solved using implicit finite difference method. The results are obtained for the velocity, temperature, concentration, skin-friction, Nusselt number, and Sherwood number. The effects of various parameters on flow variables are illustrated physically, and the physical aspects of the problem are discussed. During the course of numerical computation, it was found that the velocity and temperature profiles increase with an increase in suction/injection parameter. Also, the skin-friction and rate of heat transfer increase with increase in radiation parameter and it shows reverse effect in the case of Sherwood number
Rainfall Prediction Models for Katsina State, Nigeria: Machine Learning Approach
Weather patterns and rainfall are essential pieces of information that drive the agricultural sector. For a peasant farmer in katsina, knowledge of pattern of rainfall is a vital determinant of which crops to plant and when to commence planting. Considering its implications for agriculture, water resource management, and disaster preparedness, this paper developed rainfall prediction models specifically tailored to the unique patterns in Katsina State, Nigeria. The work used Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with 10 years historical rainfall data obtained from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency Katsina where data were collected from Nigerian Meteorological Agency Katsina State, then preprocessed and subjected to the models, while the evaluation matrices that were used are Precision, Recall, Accuracy, F1-Score, R- Square, Mean Square Error (MSE) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE). The results of this research indicate that the ANN model outperforms the MLR model with R-Square of ANN equal 0.532 and that of MLR equal to 0.099 and also the precision, recall and f1-score for ANN are 0.666, 0.666 and 0.661 respectively while for MLR they are 0.580, 0.583 and 0.564 respectively. These findings suggest that the ANN model is better at capturing the linear relationship between input variables and rainfall
Comparative Performance Evaluation of PVT Assisted Dryer And Conventional Solar Thermal Dryer In Drying of Tomatoes (Lycopersicon Esculentum)
Drying is an essential post-harvest preservation method for agricultural produce. Since drying is an energy absorbing process, farmers need to have access to effective dying techniques in order to maintain the quality of the products and maximize their profit. Hence, A Solar hybrid (PV/T) assisted dryer was designed, constructed and evaluated for drying of Tomatoes (Lycopersicon Esculentum). The load test drying efficiency of Solar Hybrid (PV/T) dryer was compared to Conventional Solar Thermal Dryer. The daily average moisture content reduction of tomatoes was 0.47g±0.169 while Solar thermal showed average reduction of 0.437g±0.188 for 35 and 37 hours respectively. The result of- t-test revealed there was no significant difference in the daily average drying rate between the hybrid (PV/T) and Solar thermal dryer. The results from the three models indicated moisture content reduction on daily basis shows that polynomial model has the highest (R²=0.9937, R²=0.9975) value and this implies that the average daily moisture content reduction of tomatoes for hybrid (PV/T) and solar thermal dryer were best described by polynomial model. The result of the proximate analysis conducted for the dried tomatoes sample using (PV/T) hybrid dryer and Solar thermal dryer indicated that ash content (5.3%), moisture content (13.31%), lipid (0.87), protein (8.87%), fiber (5.48%) `was significantly lower in sample dried with solar thermal dryer, while the lipid content (0.64%) and available carbohydrates (62.3%) are lower in tomato dried with Solar thermal dryer. The mycology test conducted for the fresh and dried tomatoes samples revealed the presence of the following fungi; S. cireviceae, S. Pombe, F. oxyspurum and F. solani with highest frequency of occurrence of S. solani (28%) and S. Pombe with lowest (3.96%) respectively. The collection efficiency of the dryer on drying of 4kg tomato sample was 42.49 %, pickup efficiency 36.89% and System efficiency 5.63%. The result obtained showed that PVT hybrid dryer is better option for drying compared to solar thermal dryer
Optimization of Biolubricant from Terminalia catappa (Almond) Seed Oil Using CaO Derived from Limestone as Catalyst
This research aimed at developing a process optimization of biolubricant production that will be environmentally eco-friendly. Greater concern has been focused on the use of solid-base catalysts, such asalcium oxide from limestone, for the transesterification of vegetable oils. Limestone was pretreated and calcined to 900 °C for 5 hours to obtain calcium oxide (CaO). The tropical almond seed oil was extracted from the tropical almond seeds using the soxhlet extraction method with a yield of 53.91%. The biolubricant was produced via double transesterification of tropical almond seed oil with methanol andrimethylolpropane (TMP) under reflux at different reaction conditions. Optimization of process parameters for the transesterification of tropical almond seed oil was determined using a response surface based on Box-Beinkhen design. The optimum yield of the biolubricant, 81.9%, was achieved at a temperature of 150oC, catalyst dose of 0.75 %wt and reaction time of 3 hours, respectivel
