Get PDFThe paper focuses upon the actualizations and modifications of genre and style in the artistic consciousness of the 1960s generation of writers. The process of “the shortstoryzation of being” with its specific chronogeometry of time and space which presupposes the poetics of the text is viewed here through the prism of genre development. The author argues that the short stories as an adaptive social and psychological genre and thus as a part of literary history initiated the anthropological turn by preparing the readers’ consciousness for the reception of new novel structures.У статті розглянуто жанрово-стильові актуалізації та модифікації художньої свідомості українських шістдесятників. Процес “новелізації буття” з його специфічною хроногеометрією часу і простору, що визначають художньо-естетичні координати поетики, простежується в контексті основних тенденцій розвитку жанрів. Акцент зроблено на тому, що новелістика як своєрідний адаптаційний соціально-психологічний жанр, виростаючи з певної історико-літературної ситуації, утверджувала антропологічний поворот, готуючи свідомість читача до сприйняття нових романних структур

Get PDFThe paper considers repressions and Holodomor as a kind of literary practice and traumatic experience in the works and biography of the Ukrainian diaspora writer Olha Mak. The analysis covers fiction, memoirs, and journalistic texts, in particular the memoirs “From the Time of Yezhovshchyna”, the essay “Capital of Hungry Horror”, and the story “Stones Under Scythe”, considered in the context of the fi ction and documentaries of the postwar Ukrainian diaspora. In this case, the writing appears to be a vital natural resource for recreating the memory, where one’s own individual experience becomes a material, an object for self-refl ection. The process of writing is associated with moral and ethical duty of witnessing the past; it has a powerful therapeutic meaning and protects from immorality integrating individual experience and history into collective, social, cultural, etc. The memoir “From the Time of Yezhovshchyna” by Olha Mack, dealing with the theme of Soviet terror and repressions, is a peculiar form of re-experiencing a personal tragedy associated with the arrest and deportation of the author’s husband. It shows the self-denial of the Soviet human, the wife of the ‘enemy of people’, and records her traumatic experience and memories.The Holodomor theme, elaborated by Olha Mack in various genres and forms, was not only a material, an object of research, but also a part of her personal biography and family history. The Holodomor in the perception of Olha Mack symbolized the threat to social, national (spiritual) life connected with various social, cultural, and mental illnesses; hence, it involves the idea of eliminating Ukraine not only as material and spatial entity, but also as abstract and spiritual one. The story “Stones Under Scythe”, dedicated to the memory of the Holodomor, is considered as a kind of the classical bildungsroman genre’s variation. Its conceptual fi gures are images-archetypes of the child-victim, the female martyr, the great mother. The Holodomor (both physical and spiritual, which destroys the foundations of national dignity, national solidarity and so on) in the story by Olha Mack is not only the topic, but also a continual metaphor and key motive.

“The Word of Igor’s Armament” in the fi eld of Yuriy Fedkovych’s artistic explorations

Теґнера, розглядаються передовсім в аспекті своїх творчих історій, ідейно-тематичних особливостей та рецепції критикою. Активна діяльність письменника в цій сфері кваліфікується як феноменальне явище, варте ґрунтовних фахових студій.The article focuses on Yu. Fedkovych’s fascination with the monument of ancient Ukrainian literature of the 12th century. Its translation and reworkings, such as “Yaroslavna’s Lament” and the unfinished poem “The Glory of Igor”, the latter written under the influence of E. Tegnér’s “Frithiofs Saga”, are studied from the angle of their creative history, thematic and ideological peculiarities as well as their critical reception. Yuriy Fedkovych’s frenetic activity in this field seems to be a phenomenon worthy of substantial investigation
Інокультурні реалії та етнообрази В “Щоденниках” Олеся Гончара
Get PDFThe paper deals with the specific features of describing foreign countries and nations in O. Honchar’s “Diaries”. The presented research shows particular details of foreign realities in the author’s perception, classifies the factors of forming ethnic images, and evaluates the originality of their representation in “Diaries”. In the context of the Own and Alien space correlation O. Honchar’s position becomes visible. He underlines the absence of stereotypes and domination of shared spiritual people’s values in forming the conception of a stranger. Foreign cultural realities and ethnic images, represented in “Diaries”, were the results of the author’s detailed observation and deep penetration into the facts of spiritual and material culture, mental peculiarities, history and present situation of different nations (Georgians, Jews, Russians, Portuguese, Indians, Americans, Japanese and others). The concept Other/Alien is formed involving such points as projection on the Own space, comparison of different foreign cultural facts with the realities of Ukrainian context. The diary notes represent the evolution of the author’s reception. The war period notes demonstrate domination of the Alien in the process of perceiving foreign culture, which is caused by the tragic war situation and longing for the native land. The post-war period notes show O. Honchar’s reflections on his war experience, the writer’s interest in cultural, historical, and social peculiarities of certain people. The reproduction of foreign cultural realities evolved. Ethnic images were designed on the basis of observation, impressions, generalization, and comparison of topographic, ideological, artistic, and historical peculiarities. They all formed an ethnomental image of a separate nation. The ethnic images, represented in O. Honchar’s “Diaries”, are based on humanistic values. They emphasize the idea of spiritual universality of different people, underlining the facts that unite representatives of different countries.У статті з’ясовано специфіку зображення у “Щоденниках” О. Гончара інших країн та народів. Розкрито особливості авторського сприйняття інокультурних реалій, визначено чинники формування етнообразів та своєрідність їх репрезентації на сторінках “Щоденників”. У контексті співвідношення Свого і Чужого просторів простежено позицію письменника щодо інших народів та культур, формування нестереотипних уявлень про Іншого/Чужого
