Get PDFThe works of a well-known German romanticist writer E.T.A. Hoffmann provide a rich variety of materialimages which play an important part in the plot development. It is the plot-constructing function of the magicalobjects itself, as represented in Hoffmann’s fairy-tale “Little Zaches, nicknamed Zinnober”, that makes out thesubject of this paper. The author argues that the magical things supplant the rest of material objects appearingin the texts, i.e. every object acquires magical properties. She also tries to prove that Hoffmann was the fi rstto show the power of things over the human psyche and habits.Твори німецького письменника епохи романтизму Е.Т.А. Гофмана густо насичені предметнимиобразами, які відіграють активну роль у розвитку сюжету. Саме сюжетна функція магічних предметів указці “Малюк Цахес, на прізвисько Цинобер” і становить предмет дослідження статті. Авторка наголошує,що магічні предмети у творі витісняють звичайний речовий світ; усяка річ тут пройнята чарівністю.Привертає увагу дослідниці й той факт, що Гофман уперше показав владу речей над психікою людиниі над її звичками
I.Franko’s translations: A comparative study of the archetypal systems of ancient Ukrainian and Scandinavian thinking
Get PDFУ статті розглядається Франковий переклад норвезької “Пісні про дівчину з руської країни” Гаральда Гардраді, зіставляються архетипні системи давньоукраїнського та скандинавського мислення, зокрема поетика та естетичний ідеал. Досліджено символічні ряди, рефлексійність мислення, пошуки національного несвідомого, давньоукраїнський та скандинавський хронотоп, реалізація національної Тіні. Подано історичний контекст із заглибленням у генеалогію. Текст пісні зіставляється з розділами “Едди” та ісландськими сагами. Виокремлені основні показники міфологізації свідомості давніх українців і скандинавів.In this article, we examine I. Franko’s translation of “The Song about a Girl from Rus” by the Norwegian Viking Harald Hardrada, comparing the archetypal systems of ancient Ukrainian and Scandinavian thinking on the planes of poetics and aesthetic ideals. In order to do this, we analyse the series of symbolic meanings, the refl exivity of thinking, the search for national unconscious, the old Ukrainian and Scandinavian сhronotopoi, and the realization of the national Shade, also providing the historical context with an accent on genealogy. This allows us to fi nd out the major markers of the mythological consciousness of the ancient Ukrainians and Scandinavians. The text of the song is compared to some chapters of Edda and to Icelandic sagas

Особливість творчості Лесі Українки порівняно із Ж.-П.Сартром полягає у відсутності морального ригоризму, абстрактного філософського схематизму у змалюванні героїв та ситуацій, що надає її драматургії виразнішого, власне гуманістично-екзистенційного звучання.The comparative study of existentialist plays by Lesia Ukrayinka and Jean-Paul Sartre allowed us to fi gure out the philosophical concepts of human freedom within the paradigm of Modernity common to both writers. In this respect, the difference between the dramatic works written by Lesia Ukrayinka and those by Sartre is that the former are not characterised either by moral rigour or by abstract philosophical schematism of characters and situations typical of the latter and therefore could be described as more expressive manifestations of humanistic existentialism

Get PDFThe discrimination between the author and the narrator has always caused problems while analysing literarytexts. What tells the narrator from his character and the author from the narrator was therefore the most diffi cultquestion. The author himself is the key meaning-making factor in V. Nabokov’s literary oeuvre. It is the authorwho reached the rank of demiurge but simultaneously left the artistic space. Unlike other novels by Nabokov,“Pnin” hasn’t become an object of scrupulous research; thus, it is still urgent to decide, to what extent the authorcorrelates with the narrator, and in what measure the author’s incarnation in the text could be acceptable forNabokov. According to Nabokov himself, the author and the narrator are different in their essence and substance;thereupon, the writer prefers to reduce his part in the novel to the mere presence of the book which lies in thehouse of a Russian émigré. Such concept of authorship coincides with M. Bakhtin’s idea about the role of theauthor-creator existing beyond the chronotopos of the fi ctional world which he himself created.Розмежування понять автора й оповідача завжди викликали труднощі при аналізі художнього твору.Найскладнішим було питання: що відрізняє оповідача від його героя і автора від оповідача? Самеавтор-творець є головним смислоформувальним чинником у творчості В.Набокова; автор, що піднявсядо рівня деміурга, але залишив межі художнього простору. Досі відкритим залишається питання, якоюмірою автор перетинається з оповідачем і наскільки Набоков сам ототожнює себе з образом автора, щовизначає актуальність цього дослідження. Автор і оповідач різні й суттю, і за змістом, зазначає Набоков,зводячи свою роль у романі до книжки, що лежить у будинку російського емігранта.
