    Get PDF

    Get PDF

    Get PDF
The decline in voting participation is not new information: the absolute numbers are decreasing. However, the presence at presidential elections in 2014 leads us to a more careful reflection on the real trends on voting in contemporary Romania. And this is why I wanted to publish these conclusions. The only generalization we can make is that, after 2007, we are witnessing a return to greater values in electoral participation for all types of elections. And this balances the impression of a steady decline in participation, retained both the literature and the common sense. Also, we find that what seemed a general trend of decreasing participation is not, in reality, quite so categorical. The general decreasing trend in electoral participation in Romania is actually a too general label that does not capture the nuances of electoral participation in Romania. There are at least three important trends, opposite, manifesting the same time, and that should be considered when it comes to voting participation nowadays in Romania

In this article I examined how changing context in which the choice is taken can influence and change the choice that individuals make. To verify this I conducted an experiment which has students from the Faculty of Political Science, NUPSPA-Bucharest as respondents (N=207) which were randomly divided into 3 groups (two experimental groups and one control group) and were asked if they will buy a life insurance policy which cost 98Euro/year in case of death in different contexts. The results were as follows: in the case of control group, 67.7% of respondents answered yes, while in the case of the experimental group 1 and experimental group 2, respondents answered yes in proportion of 74.3%, respectively 52.8%. As a result of chi-square test the result was that the null hypothesis is not rejected, which means that the differences between results are statistically insignificant. However, in Section IV, I presented two possible causes of statistically insignificant differences between responses of each experimental condition (C1-C2-C3)

Flexibilizarea Legislatiei Muncii în Contextul Modelelor Capitalismului

    Get PDF
In the this paper I will analize the 2011`s flexibilization of labor law in the theoretical framework of varieties of capitalism. The analysis will focus on 4 types of flexibilization: numerical flexibilization, salary flexibility, organizational flexibility and labor-time flexibility. The documents I will compare are the labor law from 2003 and the labor law from 2011. For both laws I have analyzed the same articles corresponding with every flexibilization type and I have identified if there existed any changes. The main idea was to identify if there were any changes in the model of market economy after flexibilization of labor law

Moral Voice ? Towards Freedom or Constraint?

    Get PDF
In this paper I will give a series of pro and against arguments concerning Amitai Etzioni?s statement made in his famous work "The Monochrome Society" which says that the moral voice is much more compatible with freedom of choice rather than with coercion1. Throughout the debate I will analyze the moral voice envisaged by Etzioni in a larger context and I will try to find an answer to the following question: Is the moral voice different from the constraint as we know it (through sanctions, penalties and so on)?The paper is structured in three parts. First part contains a theoretical approach concerning the communitarian thesis and how can we define the moral voice, the second part introduces the main arguments concerning the hypothesis whilst the third part shall conclude with my understanding of the use of the moral voice in a real world

The impact of technological progress on the labour market

    Get PDF
One of the major challenges, if not the crucial one, that politicians and governments will face in the next years is the relationship between technological progress and the social exclusion of those who are neglected by the system of social guarantees that the welfare State is still able to ensure. In this article, I analyse through a critical theory approach how technology becomes a purpose, the impact of technology on the job market and its consequences. I try to provoke some ethical reflection on uncontrolled technological progress and on the role of the man in the next years. The future of the labour market will be changed by a series of factors, some of the most important being shifting demographics, dynamic workforces, the rise of individual choice and especially the technological revolution. Of course, these arguments doesn’t mean that technological progress should stop or that I am against technological progress, especially because there are areas where innovations are lifesaving, or reducing casualties in the battlefield or reducing car incidents. The purpose of this  research is to question what will be the role of man in the world

Institutii inclusive si extractive in Europa medievala

    Get PDF
Can the still-existent economic gap between the two halves of Europe be explained by studying the continent’s medieval past? I argue that the development of feudalism and the different trajectory of this complex web of institutions in Eastern and Western Europe respectively can be a potential explanation on why one half has always been behind the other in terms of economics. For this, I use the framework of inclusive and extractive institutions laid down by Douglass North and Robert Thomas and supplement it with a third type of institutions: non-inclusive ones

Catholic and Nationalist Populism in the Current Poland

    Get PDF
This paper is dedicated to Catholic and nationalist populism that has become a part of political party called Prawo i Sprawiedliwoœæ (Law and Justice), the faction which currently rules in Poland. This attitude of populism is characteristic also for its leader Jaros³aw Kaczyñski who builds his political strategy on populist slogans concerning nationalist and Catholic elements. The level of populism has permanently been growing since the origin of PiS. The great power that supports these tendencies is the Catholic hierarchy. A folk version of religion is a main face of Polish Catholicism. It is one of the sources of populism in Polish society. The Catholic Church in Poland has lost its intellectual image. Author underlines that populist slogans try to mobilize right-wing electorate but consequences for Polish political system, the place of Poland in Europe and international relations as well as for the future of the European Union can be dangerous

Nihilism si reificare. Critica tehno-ideologiei post-moderne in gandirea politica a lui Heidegger

    Get PDF
Commonly, there are three basic, somewhat, but not necessarily, interrelated charges held against Heidegger’s thought: (i) the abstrusity of his language, (ii) the alleged lack of ethical preoccupation and (iii) the temporary flirtation with National Socialism, which would supposedly indicate a core ideological flaw of his philosophy. In short, this paper is an attempt at proving the superficiality of these accusations while at the same time seeking for an alternative mode of interpretation. More precisely, I will try to provide a general conceptual reconstruction of his philosophy in more familiar terms with a special emphasis on its ethical implications (broadly understood as the ‚systematic reflection on the humanly proper way to be’). Thereupon, I will determine the implicit political stance of his thought, as something rather closer to individualist anarchism than to National Socialism. As such, we will explore his interpretation of contemporary nihilism as a consequence of the historically progressive forgetfulness of Being  Seinsvergessenheit), or, in more familiar terms, reification. We will analyze the causes and tendencies of this process while linking it with techno-idelogical (post-) modernity. As for an eventual heideggerian solution to the crisis of (post-)modernity, we will lay special emphasis on Dasein’s relation to its own finitude, the so called Being-onto-death (Sein zum Tode), as the one and only way of restoring, at least on the individual level, Dasein’s relation to its own existence and, ultimately, Being itself.
