    Contested Legitimacy

    Get PDF
There is a growing demand to change the institutions and constitutional design as responseto the impact of the electorate or other recently emerging movements supported mostly from variousstreet protest actions or citizens rallies. Despite of how it may be difficult to bring about any general typology of diverse motivations, forms of manifestation and outcomes they lead to, I am inclined to believe, that their objective is to challenge the institutions. The institutions are thought to fail because theycannot fully deliver legitimacy. In other words, public pronouncement of discontent over policies is easily transferred to the common disapproval of the established institutions. And the institutions that are becoming an easy target of all the malaises, even though they had been established through free and fairelections, are becoming handy victims as a result of peace-building negotiations

    Get PDF
The present article introduces to the academic agenda a subject that is still largely invisible, namely violence against Roma women, and creates a necessary climate for dialogue between scholars dealing with this subject. The aim of the paper is to investigate the impact of cultural and gender essentialism on violence against Roma women. The research proposal develops a description of the inequalities in combating violence against Roma women and further discusses the mechanisms that could remedy these inequalities. The proposed study regarding violence against Roma women is a theoretical inquiry that investigates this acute contemporary phenomenon by using a conceptual framework based on radical feminist theories

Reformismul islamic si impactul asupra studiilor de gen

    Get PDF
One of the characteristics of modern Islamic reformist movements is represented by the emergence of the gender question as a major theme in theoretical discourses and public policies. AI lslah / the reform illustrates the Islamic tradition's potential for transformation and self - transformation. lslah constituted itself as a reaction towards what had been conceptualized and perceived as fasad (corruption, injustice) in certain moments of time and specific places. The disponibility of taking in to consideration the injustice Muslim women were subjected to faded away considerably as the atomized Quranic interpretations and legalist manipulations of the ethical substance of lslamic principles started to spread. Despite the sporadic turbulences it has sparkled, the only feasible and tasting solution for promoting an egalitarian perspective on gender relations in Islamic cultures is the critical deconstruction within the tradition. In this article I will discuss some of the Quranic justifications regarding the legitimacy of the reformist approaches endorsed by women and the relevance of Islamic reform in gender studies

Este statul o persoana? Argumentele realismului stiintific explicate prin realismul ofensiv

    Get PDF
In a doua sectiune a lucrarii voi vorbi despre paradigma realismului ofensiv, din cadrul relatiilor internationale.

Superman. A Hero of the Culture Industry

    Get PDF
Superman’s image symbolizes the utopian and ideal narrative of the American Dream. Yet, the feasibility of the American Dream transformed this national hero into a commodity meant to be consumed. Thus, one of the most beloved heroes of the 20th century became what Theodor Adorno foresaw: a commodity designed to be reproduced and to be a part of the culture industry. This paper examines how consumerist tendencies resulted in Superman no longer being able to represent the core principles of the American Dream. The theoretical framework consists of Umberto Eco’s interpretation of Superman’s heroic structure and its Greek reminiscences. The works of Andrew Terjesen, (Superman and Philosophy. What would the Man of Steel do?) and Larry Tye (Superman. The High Flying History of America’s Most Enduring Hero) will be used to analyze the scale on which Superman has been used as a soft-power means of disseminating American value

Analiza comparativa a schimbarilor din comunitatile de intelligence din Statele Unite ale Americii si România post-razboi rece – perspectiva izomorfismului mimetic

    Get PDF
Each state is responsible for the security of its citizens. The way in which it understands to build this desiderate differs from state to state. A common element between these forms of human organization, as can be seen if we analyze the state structures, is represented by the existence of specialized institutions (e.g. intelligence agencies) in filling in the security needs of these states. The following paper tries to see how the security needs and the constant change in the international environment shaped the Romanian intelligence community by using specific methods and elements used by the USA’s intelligence community. In order to achieve this objective the theoretical framework used will be the neoinstitutionalism, specifically the sociological institutionalism through its mimetic isomorphism

The Roma Inclusion: the Romanian and European programmatic frameworks

    Get PDF
In the present article I will present an analysis of the programmatic documents, both Romanian and European, with relevance to the public policies for the Roma inciuslon in the last decades. The Roma inclusion has become a motto of the politicians, but few were made towards a real investment in this respect. In Romania. the Roma exclusion was combatted as result of the European Union's pressures in the pre-accession period, as part of the potitical criteria. As well, I wili approach a series of concerns, existent in the both Roma and non-Roma civil society, as regards the national legal and policy frameworks for the improvementof Roma situation in Romania

Identities under Construction: Towards a Museum of Roma People in Romania

    Get PDF
This article is a rejection upon the timeliness and possibility of establishing a Museum of Roma People, more specifically, a museum able to (re)present the Roma cultural identity in contemporary Romania. Having in mind Bauman's reflection on identity, the aim of this study is to provide arguments in favor of the idea that the purpose of a Museum of Roma People should be to bring to life and give voice to various Roma identities, as lived and negotiated nowadays within compact Roma communities, as well as outside them
