    Der Einbau von abgetrennten, blickdichten, luxuriösen, großen, schweren First-Class-Suiten in Langstreckenflugzeuge von Swiss und Lufthansa führt zu einem deutlich erhöhten Kraftstoffverbrauch und CO2-Ausstoß pro First-Class-Passagier. Besonders problematisch ist der Airbus A330, weil hier zum Massenausgleich zusätzlich Ballast im Heck erforderlich wird. Es geht bei den zusätzlichen Massen um mehrere Tonnen – obwohl Flugzeugbau eigentlich Leichtbau ist. Swiss fällt eine betriebswirtschaftliche Entscheidung. Die Airline kann mit teuren First-Class-Tickets hohe Einnahmen generieren. In Zeiten des Klimawandels ist das nicht zu rechtfertigen – insbesondere auch darum, weil täglich Meldungen eingehen, die zeigen, dass technologische Hoffnungsträger (Algen, Wasserstoff in der Luftfahrt, Elektromobilität in der Luftfahrt, ...) gar nicht oder nicht rechtzeitig vor den Kipppunkten zur Problemlösung beitragen werden.The installation of separate, opaque, luxurious, large, and heavy first-class suites on long-haul aircraft operated by Swiss and Lufthansa leads to significantly increased fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per first-class passenger. The Airbus A330 is particularly problematic because it requires additional ballast in the rear to balance the mass. The additional mass amounts to several tons – even though aircraft design is essentially a lightweight design. Swiss is making a business decision. The airline can generate high revenues with expensive first-class tickets. In times of climate change, this is unjustifiable – especially because daily reports show that promising technologies (algae, hydrogen in aviation, electromobility in aviation, etc.) will not contribute to solving the problem at all, or not in time before the tipping points.NonPeerReviewe

KI-gestützte Tools ermöglichen präventives Handeln, erfordern jedoch ethische Reflexion. Erfolgreiche Krisenkommunikation vereint Agilität, Empathie und Glaubwürdigkeit und wird zur hybriden Kombination aus Mensch und Algorithmus – mit offenem Ausgang hinsichtlich Kontrollierbarkeit öffentlicher Diskurse.The paper analyses data-based strategies for overcoming digital reputation crises. It shows that fast, empathetic reactions and social listening are crucial. AI-supported tools enable preventive action, but require ethical reflection. Successful crisis com-munication combines agility, empathy and credibility and becomes a hybrid combination of humans and algorithms – with an open outcome in terms of the controlla-bility of public discourse

    Investigating the mental health burden of the COVID-19 pandemic in two populations from different socioeconomic levels in São Paulo, Brazil : a qualitative analysis

    Introduction: Brazil ranks among the top 10 countries regarding infections and deaths of COVID-19, and São Paulo is recognized as the super-spreader city with 85% of transmissions nationwide. The burden of the pandemic in Brazil had strong territorial influence and was higher in most vulnerable populations. This study investigates the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of two populations from regions with different socio-economic levels in São Paulo, Brazil. Methods: Qualitative social-empirical approach through two focus groups: group one with upper-middle socioeconomic status and group two with low status. The material was analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: The COVID-19 pandemic profoundly impacted the mental health of all participants. Both groups reported heightened levels of fear, anger, anxiety, and stress. Yet notable distinctions were observed: while reports from group one often linked these emotions to feelings of isolation, loneliness, relationship difficulties, and challenges with work or education, reports from group two primarily cited concerns about restrictive measures, including their effects on employment, working conditions, and income. However, it also presented an opportunity for individuals in group one who reported improving their well-being. Conclusion: Territorial and socio-economic factors significantly shaped the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the mental well-being of São Paulo residents. We encourage investigations at the community level to inform local policies that address specific unmet needs within the community.PeerReviewe

    DNSSEC in the car : towards an agile management of automotive service security

    Current automotive designs lack security solutions that span the vehicle lifetime. Future Service-Oriented Architectures (SOAs) in cars will enable post-sale updates and functional upgrades, which require prevalent proof of authenticity for the service suppliers as well as the manufacturer (OEM). In this poster, we decouple the cryptographic authentication of the service suppliers from that of OEMs with the help of DNSSEC. We propose to authenticate in-vehicle services by certificates that are solely generated by the service suppliers but published via DNSSEC TLSA records solely signed by the OEM. Building on the well-established Internet standard DNSSEC ensures updatability and interoperability with various protocols.Our approach enables credential management for millions of connected vehicles with proven security.PeerReviewe

    Towards a complete view of Encrypted Client Hello deployments

    We present a new measurement approach to detect ECH deployments. Our method leverages standard-compliant behavior of ECH servers. This reveals a set of ECH deployments not detected by prior measurements. Prior measurements reported only one major ECH deployment (Cloudflare). Our measurements reveal another large deployment (Meta). Meta servers support ECH, but ECH configuration is not exposed via the DNS. Furthermore, we study potential latency penalties due to ECH by analyzing the time differences between ECH and non-ECH connections.PeerReviewe

    Diese Arbeit befasst sich mit der Entwicklung und Optimierung von Testzellen zur Untersuchung von Blasenbildungsprozessen in der Wasserelektrolyse. Eine bereits existierende Testzelle wurde für optische Messungen mittels 4D-Particle-Tracking-Velocimetry weiterentwickelt. Zusätzlich entstand eine neue Testzelle, die gezielt auf Synchrotronstrahlungsuntersuchungen (SAXS) ausgerichtet ist. Beide Varianten sollen dazu beitragen, das Verständnis von Blasenbildung und Gastransport in elektrochemischen Systemen zu vertiefen und eine präzise Charakterisierung der Prozesse in der Wasserelektrolyse zu ermöglichen.This thesis deals with the development and optimization of test cells for investigating bubble formation processes in water electrolysis. An existing test cell was enhanced for optical measurements using 4D Particle Tracking Velocimetry (4D-PTV). In addition, a new test cell was designed specifically for synchrotron radiation studies (SAXS). Both solutions aim to improve our understanding of bubble formation and gas transport in electrochemical systems and enable precise characterization of these processes in water electrolysis
