Multi-rotor wind turbines : a review of modern research efforts and challenges
The rising capital and operational costs associated with scaling up single-rotor wind turbines have the potential to offset the energy gains of larger rotors, making their impact on levelised cost of energy uncertain. Multi-rotor wind turbines show great promise in reducing LCoE through their advantageous scaling laws. Their smaller individual rotors enable the use of more sustainable materials and streamlined operations and maintenance, addressing many shortcomings of single-rotor designs. This work reviews recent MRWT research spanning numerous disciplines, including aerodynamics, structures, and maintenance, amongst others.NonPeerReviewe

Germany’s market for alternative protein sources has grown steadily in recent years. Achieving a sustainable, demand-oriented protein supply requires balancing nutritional quality with technological feasibility. This bachelor’s thesis conducts a systematic literature review of protein quality measured by DIAAS and PDCAAS for oilseeds, legumes, mycoproteins, and microalgae relevant to Germany. An expert interview adds a technological perspective on current applications, development opportunities, and the potential contribution of these alternatives to protein supply in the general adult population. Soybeans reach an average “high-quality” rating (DIAAS ≥100). Rapeseed, peas, and chickpeas fall in the “good” range (75–99). Lupine, faba beans, and lentils score below 75 on average and are likely to benefit from protein blending or processing (e.g., fermentation). Mycoprotein (F. venenatum) shows high PDCAAS values (99.6–101), whereas spirulina and chlorella are in a lower range (63–84). For microalgae, cell-wall disruption appears to further improve protein quality. Technologically, soy and peas currently offer the broadest applicability. Mycoprotein is especially relevant for high-quality meat analogues due to its structuring properties. Microalgae display promising foaming and emulsifying functions, but food applications are currently limited. Overall, the paper provides an up-to-date overview of nutritional quality and practical applicability for key plant and microbial proteins. It supports product development and research by guiding the targeted selection of alternative proteins suited for physiologically high-quality substitutes. It also outlines priorities for future studies, including DIAAS data for underrepresented legumes and microbial proteins and systematic evaluation of processing effects
Large Language Models for Software Development: Evaluating the Feasibility of Local Large Language Models for Code Generation
The ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to transform natural language into code has significantly
improved over the last iterations. Existing methods, such as GitHub Copilot, demonstrate that their usability is highly robust, but their functionality can only be accessed through external providers. This can pose a problem for companies with strict data protection or compliance requirements. An alternative to this could be local LLMs. Local code generation LLMs that can generate code using company internal code repository can be particularly beneficial for companies with stringent data protection requirements. The motivation of this bachelor thesis is therefore to investigate the feasibility of using local LLMs for code generation. This thesis investigates the extent to which Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) can be used, to retrieve the necessary code from the companies internal repository to generate code. It will also explore how RAG can enhance the usability and relevance of LLM-generated outputs. Additionally, this thesis will investigate the extent to which LLMs can be fine-tuned using examples from private code repositories, such as Philips’ internal repository for User Interface (UI) components, known as Filament. Finally, this thesis will examine how the combination of both RAG and fine-tuning on a companies private repository can be leveraged to maximize performance for code generation tasks

Critical consideration towards broad consent by patient experts : results of a semi-structured interview study on the secondary use of medical data
Background: Some would argue that there is a moral obligation to make the personal health data stored in databases and biobanks available for secondary research use. Yet, it is unclear what ways to gain consent to use the stored data for secondary research purposes are both effective and respectful of the patient’s autonomy. One prominent example under discussion is broad consent. As a form of consent in which specific study objectives are not defined, it is seen by many as an efficient alternative to the established consent of participants. Research on subjects' attitudes towards and their discursive reflections on broad consent is, however, limited. With our study, we aimed to gain deeper insights into the views and (normative) attitudes towards broad consent by members and representatives of patient organizations. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with members (N = 13) and representatives (N = 9) of German patient organizations. Subsequently, we evaluated the material using content analysis. Results: The results initially indicate a general agreement with broad consent among members and representatives of patient organizations. In contrast to the results of some existing studies on broad consent, our analysis reveals limitations in this regard: Positive assessments relate less to broad consent in particular, but rather to overarching regulations on secondary data use that deviate from broad consent. Broad consent is criticized for exactly what it was originally intended to regulate: reduced flow of information, lack of a concrete and communicated research objective, and coverage of (too) long periods of time. The interviewees often formulated specific ideas and wishes about appropriate procedures for consenting to secondary data use, i.e., specific governance structures, thus (implicitly) conceptualizing "informed consent" as the gold standard of consent procedures. Conclusions: The interviewees consider the provision of data for secondary use to be important for the improvement of treatment methods, freedom of research, and ethical considerations such as reciprocity. However, these values are linked to conditions in the stakeholders' considerations and thus appear less absolute and universal than conditional and situated. Qualitative, empirical-ethical research can make this inherent complexity of ethical attitudes of stakeholders as negotiation processes tangible and fruitful for medical ethical practice.PeerReviewe
Cost-utility analysis of a collaborative and stepped care model in patients with mental disorders in German primary care (the COMET study)
Background: In order to reduce the health burden and the health care costs caused by the most common mental disorders, health care systems throughout Europe have tried to improve services and treatment choices. Recently, a collaborative and stepped care (CSC) model for patients with depressive, anxiety, somatoform or alcohol-related disorders and their comorbidities was developed and implemented under routine care conditions in Germany. The aim of this study was to determine the cost-effectiveness of this CSC model from a societal perspective with a 12-month follow-up. Methods: This study was part of a cluster-randomized controlled trial to compare a CSC model with treatment as usual (TAU) in patients with depressive, anxiety, somatoform or alcohol-related disorders and their comorbidities in German routine care. The cost-effectiveness of the CSC model compared with TAU was analyzed based on the incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR) with quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) based on the EQ-5D-5L index as measure of health effect. The uncertainty of the ICUR was assessed using cost-effectiveness acceptability curves based on net-benefit regressions. Results: In total, n = 307 patients in the CSC and n = 308 patients in the TAU group were included, with a mean age of 38 and 43 years, respectively. There were no differences in mean QALYs and total costs between the CSC (0.86 QALY, 27,174€) and the TAU group (0.86 QALY, 26,441€). Only the adjusted mean costs for outpatient mental health services were higher in the CSC group (+685€; 95% CI 398€ to 972€; p < 0.001). The probability of cost-effectiveness of the CSC model was 35% at a willingness-to-pay (WTP) of 0€ and 34% at a WTP of 50,000€ per additional QALY. Conclusion: The evaluated CSC model was unlikely to be cost-effective compared with TAU from a societal perspective for patients with depressive, anxiety, somatoform or alcohol-related disorders and their comorbidities during the 12-month follow-up period. The higher mean costs for outpatient mental health services might indicate that general practitioners in the CSC group were able to refer patients to psychotherapists and psychiatrists more frequently through the network of health care providers.
In view of the increasing availability of historical crime data, machine learning methods offer new possibilities for identifying crime hotspots and planning preventive measures. This bachelor thesis deals with the application and comparison of different machine learning algorithms for predicting crime based on the publicly available San Francisco Crime Dataset. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate the performance of different classification models and to analyse their strengths and weaknesses in the classification of multiclass, unbalanced data. The best results were achieved with XGBoost when restricted to the ten most frequent crime categories (Accuracy:~33 %). Nevertheless, the overall low F1 scores show that rare classes are insufficiently
predicted. The results show that conventional models reach their limits with unbalanced class assignments. Feature engineering was used to improve model performance. In addition, ethical challenges and data protection issues are addressed
