This thesis investigates how lean management and digitization can be used to achieve the climate targets of the EU-Commission. For this purpose, basic knowledge is created on the three subject areas of lean management, digitization and climate neutrality. Then the EU climate targets are broken down in detail. With the knowledge gained, the interaction of the subject areas with each other is examined. It is shown how lean management and digitization can be used to meet the EU climate targets and the multiple crises. To ensure the greatest possible practical relevance, the results of the study are presented in an individual guide for decision-makers in manufacturing companies

Assessing potential risks of exposure to nanomaterials on human health – A bibliometric analysis
Background: Due to quick development of nanotechnology, nanomaterials are now widely used in a variety of field, such as consumer goods, electronics, and medicine. Nonetheless, worries about their possible health hazards have surfaced, calling for a through comprehension of their effects on human health. The aim of the following research is to evaluate the state of research on nanomaterials and human health exposure by determining which health consequences are anticipated in the future and by examining the interlinkage between these two key concepts.
Methods: VOSviewer was used to perform a bibliographic analysis, taking into account 3007 papers, in order to accomplish the aim of this research. The information was obtained on the 16th of October 2024 from Scopus database. Bibliometric analysis used co-occurrence analysis and keywords to show emerging and important topic areas. Therefore, it is a suitable approach to achieve the stated research aims.
Results : The analysis revealed four different clusters, of which each represent a unique viewpoint on interlinkage. The main consequences of nanomaterial exposure on human health could be derived from different clusters, including widespread use in consumer product, medical applications, industrial applications, inhalation, dermal contact, lack of safety protocols in the laboratories, lack of awareness and environmental release of nanomaterials. Once released, they have the potential to contaminate soil, water, and air, which could expose humans indirectly through consuming contaminated resources.
Conclusion: The results highlights the importance of continued research on the health implications of nanomaterials. Although there has been a progress in understanding their risks, more research is necessary to fill in the knowledge gaps and guide regulatory policies. Besides that, further risk assessments are necessary to identify possible risks, inform regulatory frameworks, and guarantee that the advantages of nanomaterials are realized without endangering environment or human health. Overall, to ensure that nanotechnology is developed and applied safely for the benefit of human health and the environment, cooperation between researchers, legislators, and industry stakeholders will be essential

System architecture optimization : function-based modeling, optimization algorithms, and multidisciplinary evaluation
When designing complex systems, choices related to the system architecture, the description of the functions and components of a system, greatly influence to which extent design goals can be achieved. The architecture design space, the set of all possible architectures for a given design problem, can be extremely large due to the combinatorial nature of architectural choices. Additionally, the integration of innovative technologies for future systems requires the application of multidisciplinary, simulation-based evaluation. These two challenges are addressed by System Architecture Optimization (SAO): the combination of numerical optimization algorithms with multidisciplinary, simulation-based evaluation, to explore architecture design spaces without requiring the evaluation of all architectures.
A function-based method is developed for modeling SAO problems. The Architecture Design Space Graph (ADSG) is developed to represent function-to-component allocation, component characterization, and component connection choices. Algorithms are developed to automatically encode an ADSG as a numerical optimization problem, and to decode generated design vectors into architecture instances. The modeling method is made available through a web-based GUI application.
SAO problems are solved using evolutionary and Bayesian Optimization (BO) algorithms. A new hierarchical sampling algorithm is developed to prevent under- or over-sampling regions in the design space when building the initial Design of Experiments (DoE). Investigations are performed into correction algorithms and into exposing information about design space hierarchy. For BO, a strategy is developed to deal with hidden constraints stemming from simulation failures. It is shown that both evolutionary and BO algorithms can solve SAO problems, however BO can do so with 92% less function evaluations as demonstrated for a realistic SAO problem.
Multidisciplinary, simulation-based evaluation in large, cross-organizational systems engineering projects is enabled by leveraging collaborative Multidisciplinary Design Analysis and Optimization (MDAO). Methods are developed for automatically modifying the behaviour of a collaborative MDAO workflow for each evaluated system architecture, for propagating all information about the system architecture to the Central Data Schema (CDS) as used in collaborative MDAO, and for executing the architecture generation process in the computational environment where the workflow is executed.AlternativeReviewe
