This thesis, titled "Development of a Multifunctional Virtual Reality Platform for Virtual Meetings and AI-Based Interactions with NPCs", explores the design and implementation of an innovative system for virtual communication in immersive VR environments. The platform aims to enhance the quality of online meetings, increase the sense of presence, and provide users with an intelligent and interactive experience. In this project, users utilize VR headsets such as the Oculus Quest to enter a 3D environment where they can gather in groups, speak, send messages, and interact through avatars. A key feature of the system is the integration of a smart virtual character (NPC) who acts as an AI-powered assistant during the meeting. This NPC plays the role of a moderator or observer and is capable of answering both technical and general questions to maintain the interactive nature of the session. The platform is developed using technologies such as Unity, XR Interaction Toolkit, NetCode, Relay, Lobby, Vivox for voice communication, and Convai AI for generating intelligent NPC behaviors. The main focus lies in creating a technically reliable and user-friendly solution that is both effective and engaging. The motivation behind this project originates from the challenges faced by large corporations—particularly in industrial or automotive sectors—regarding the organization of in-person meetings. In such environments, especially where multiple teams operate simultaneously, conflicts in booking and using conference rooms often lead to delays and ineffective sessions. This becomes even more critical when direct interaction with models or physical tools is required. The proposed VR platform offers an interactive and location-independent alternative to physical meetings, enabling practical and accessible collaboration for all team members. The subsequent chapters of this thesis provide a detailed discussion of the design process, development phases, encountered challenges, technical architecture, and the results of user testing conducted on the platform
Between willingness and practice : a nationwide survey of 1,334 German patient organization members on user involvement in digital service development
Introduction: As the digital transformation of healthcare progresses, key actors such as patient organizations (POs) are adapting their activities and services to digital formats. This study explores how PO members are involved in developing digital services, focusing on their general willingness, actual involvement, and associated factors. Methods: A nationwide online survey was conducted among members of German POs from August to November 2023. Participants were recruited through 300 national POs. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and multivariate logistic regression analyses to examine potential predictors of three involvement variables. Results: Of the 1,334 participants, the majority were female (67.2%) and aged ≥50 years (65.6%). While only 22.4% of respondents had been approached by their PO to contribute to digital services — most commonly to PO websites, focusing primarily on content development — 81.2% emphasized the importance of member involvement, and nearly half (48%) expressed willingness to engage. Members volunteering within their PO were significantly more likely than non-volunteers to express willingness (OR = 2.905, 95% CI: 2.163–3.901, p < 0.001) and to be approached by their PO (OR = 5.227, 95% CI: 3.765–7.256, p < 0.001). Additionally, members not engaged in volunteer roles were significantly less likely to agree to such a request (OR = 0.076, 95% CI: 0.032–0.181, p < 0.001). Members with poor self-rated digital skills were significantly less likely to express willingness (OR = 0.235, 95% CI: 0.135–0.407, p < 0.001) or to be involved (OR = 0.070, 95% CI: 0.016–0.300, p < 0.001) than those with strong digital skills. Other factors, such as age, gender, educational attainment, and membership duration, were significantly associated with specific aspects of involvement. Conclusion: The findings highlight a notable gap between the broad willingness of PO members to engage in digital service development and the limited actual involvement opportunities currently provided by POs. This suggests that structured involvement processes may not yet be fully established, leaving substantial potential untapped. To gain a more comprehensive understanding, future research should explore POs’ perspectives on the feasibility of member involvement, as well as structural and organizational factors that shape these opportunities.PeerReviewe
Speicherung von gasförmigem Wasserstoff : technisch-wirtschaftliche Analyse
Hydrogen storage plays a crucial role in enabling its large‐scale adoption as an energy carrier. This study examines the technical and economic aspects of storing hydrogen in 200‐bar pressure vessels. It focuses on the impact of different transportation methods, including 350‐bar trailers, 540‐bar trailers, and pipelines, on storage performance and costs. Key factors analyzed include pressure and temperature variations during the filling process, the levelized cost of hydrogen storage, and the combined levelized cost of hydrogen transportation and storage. The results indicate that higher mass flow rates lead to increased temperature fluctuations, requiring careful control to maintain safe operating conditions. Additionally, while the levelized storage costs decrease with increasing hydrogen demand, the choice of transportation method significantly influences the total cost. The analysis shows that 350‐bar trailers offer the most cost‐effective transport and storage solution for short to medium distances, whereas, 540‐bar trailers become more viable at longer distances. These insights provide a foundation for optimizing hydrogen infrastructure, balancing cost and efficiency in storage and distribution.

The aim of this bachelorthesis is to analyse FROG traces using neural networks. Different network architectures are evaluated with respect to their ability to predict the ZBP from the given FROG traces. The best mesh is then used to reconstruct the amplitude response in the time domain. Five different cost functions are used. The phase response is then reconstructed in the wavelength domain. Finally, a mesh with two inputs is realised. This enables the prediction of the phase response from the given FROG trace and the amplitude response in the wavelength domain
Simulation of the cardiac electrical activity and derived body ECG using the finite element method
Electrocardiography is an important tool for diagnosing and preventing heart diseases. In order to improve this technology, mathematical simulation models are employed to simulate the electrical activity within a patient’s thorax and to generate an ECG on the virtual thorax surface. This is performed by the creation of heart and torso models, that represent their respective physiological characteristics mathematically. In case of the heart, complex differential equations are utilized to simulate the generation of action potentials and their propagation across the heart’s tissue. To derive the corresponding ECG on the body surface, a torso geometry is modeled around the heart and assigned electrical conduction properties based on the human physiology. This allows users to place virtual electrodes on the simulated surface of the torso and analyze the resulting derived ECG.
The objective of this thesis is the development of a simulation model of the heart. This task is handled with the use of the finite element method (FEM) software COMSOL Multiphysics. In the course of this study, the model building process will be described together with the corresponding results. One of the main steps is the adjustment of the Aliev-Panfilov equations which are used to describe the electrical activity of the heart in this simulation. Subsequent steps include the integration of the geometry, the mesh generation, and the optimization of study settings.
Ultimately, the model which is generated in the course of this thesis is able to generate sufficient action potentials and accurately simulates the excitation propagation across the heart’s tissue. Although there are still some improvements to be made, the model proves to be reliable and a solid foundation for future research and investigations in this field
