This bachelor thesis includes the modification design of a shortened version of a 5m undulator considering the magnet carrier deformation behavior. The magnet carriers are to be symmetrically, maximally shortened. All other components are to remain unchanged as far as possible. Analytical calculations of the un-shortened and the shortened magnet carrier variants were compared in preparation. The extended calculation of the shear and bending deformation was carried out with the FEM analysis and with analytical differential equations. The methods were compared with each other. The result of the analyses of the magnetic beam shortening showed that the loading condition changes. This affects load-bearing undulator components and the bending line of the magnet carriers. In order to ensure the function of the undulator, design solutions were proposed, evaluated and selected
Toward a better understanding of IoT domain names : a study of IoT backend
In this paper, we study Internet of Things (IoT) domain names, the domain names of backend servers on the Internet that are accessed by IoT devices. We investigate how they compare to non-IoT domain names based on their statistical and DNS properties and the feasibility of classifying these two classes of domain names using machine learning (ML). We construct a dataset of IoT domain names by surveying past studies that used testbeds with real IoT devices. For the non-IoT dataset, we use two lists of top-visited websites. We study the statistical and DNS properties of the domain names. We also leverage machine learning and train six models to perform the classification between the two classes of domain names. The word embedding technique we use to get the real-valued vector representation of the domain names is Word2vec. Our statistical analysis highlights significant differences in domain name length, label frequency, and compliance with typical domain name construction guidelines, while our DNS analysis reveals notable variations in resource record availability and configuration between IoT and non-IoT DNS zones. As for classifying IoT and non-IoT domain names using machine learning, Random Forest achieves the highest performance among the models we train, yielding the highest accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. Our work offers novel insights to IoT, potentially informing protocol design and aiding in network security and performance monitoring.PeerReviewe
Pilot implementation of two specific problem lists before and after solid organ transplantation into routine care
Introduction: Psychosocial distress and mental health problems are common in patients before and after solid organ transplantation and can negatively affect morbidity, mortality, and adherence. Even though regular screening is recommended to identify patients with high levels of distress, the implementation in routine care has been insufficient so far. Methods: Two newly developed problem lists for patients before and after transplantations were pilot implemented for 8 weeks at the Medical Center Hamburg Eppendorf (UKE) to identify factors facilitating and impeding their implementation. Results: Health care professionals evaluated its appropriateness, feasibility, and the cooperation with the psychologists before (HCPs: n = 23) and after (HCPs: n = 19) the implementation. Four psychologists assessed the appropriateness and feasibility by answering to open-ended and close-ended questions. Additionally, patients before (n = 8) and after (n = 100) transplantation filled out the screening and rated its acceptance. Only the data of the patients after transplantation were analyzed due to the small sample size of patients before transplantation. HCPs and psychologists rated the screenings as very appropriate [HCPs: M = 3.84 (SD = 0.77) to M = 4.32 (SD = 0.58)]. It was also highly accepted among patients [M = 4.23 (SD = 0.85) to M = 4.68 (SD = 0.65)]. Contentment with the psychological support and understanding of the mental health problems among HCPs increased significantly from before to after the implementation (U = 107.50, p < 0.05, r = 0.33; U = 107.00, p < 0.05, r = 0.34). The feasibility of the problem list post-Tx in routine care, however, was seen as challenging [HCPs: M = 3.11 (SD = 1.05) to M = 3.47 (SD = 1.07)]. Discussion: The distress screening was accepted and improved the cooperation between different professions. Barriers to implementation can be lack of staff and resources. Future studies should assess the adoption and sustainability of the screening in routine care.PeerReviewe
Background: Many students work while studying. This bachelor thesis examines how secondary employment is related to students’ perceived stress. The aim is to explore possible connections between working and stress, based on theoretical models such as the transactional stress model, the concept of eustress and distress, and the framework of the health-promoting university. These models served as guiding tools for interpreting and structuring the findings and form the theoretical background of the study.
Method: The study is based on cross-sectional data from the SuSy survey at Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, collected during the winter semester 2023/2024. To test the hypotheses, bivariate methods were used, especially chi-square tests and Cramér’s V. In addition to employment, the analysis included demographic factors and sources of financial support.
Results: There was no significant link between secondary employment and perceived stress. However, the results showed a significant connection between family support and stress levels, as well as between semester affiliation and employment. These findings suggest that students experience stress in different ways and that available support plays an important role.
Conclusion: Secondary employment alone does not explain how students experience stress. Personal perception and access to support seem to be more important. The findings underline the importance of developing resourceoriented approaches in university health promotion that are specifically adapted to the diverse living situations and needs of students
Selective punitiveness among social work students : a longitudinal study
This article presents the primary results of a longitudinal study on attitudes toward punishment, among social work students in Germany. This is particularly relevant because social workers, especially in the field of criminal justice, are part of the state control bodies required to set boundaries and decide for or against certain sanctions. The results show that punitive attitudes are not uncommon among first-year social work students but decrease during the course of their study, especially in students majoring in the field of criminal justice. Simultaneously, “selective punitiveness” was evident.PeerReviewe

Unlearning with partial label learning
Machine Unlearning describes the challenge of forgetting data points that were used for an initial training of a machine learning model. Data privacy concerns as well as safety of sensitive learning data are the driving motivation for the emergence of this field. The special case of class unlearning is a challenge, as an entire class is to be unlearned without affecting the accuracy of potentially very similar other classes. We propose a novel method for class unlearning that is robust, efficient and can be applied without having access to the full initial training data. The approach is based on disambiguation-free partial label learning and can be understood as a stabilized version of gradient ascent. Furthermore, we show how this approach can be applied to training data with negative quasiprobabilities which is a problem encountered in high energy physics.PeerReviewe
Arbitration, investment, and the EU legal order
The divide between EU law and investment arbitration, which, following the Achmea judgment, led to the end of intra-EU bilateral investment treaties, is deepening. The Court of Justice shut the door further in its decisions in Komstroy and PL Holdings, regarding intra-EU arbitration under the Energy Charter Treaty (ECT) and ad hoc replacing treaty-based arbitration, respectively. The responsibility for juggling EU and international law obligations now rests with the courts and tribunals of the Member States, which need to make use of EU-conform interpretation of arbitration laws under appropriate guidance from the Court of Justice. Regarding extra-EU investment arbitration, the main actor is the EU, which took on the task of alleviating public distrust in investment arbitration by way of reformed investment chapters in modern trade agreements. The EU’s challenge will be to live up to this and ensure that non-economic interests will find sufficient consideration in future disputes under these agreements.PeerReviewe
Background: Stress-related burden is a serious problem in the workplace and has farreaching consequences for employee health, the economy, and society. Despite many advantages, psychological stress factors in the hybrid work model have not been sufficiently researched. Digital applications can contribute to reducing employee stress. This study examines how and to what extent digital applications can be used for workplace stress management in hybrid work models.
Method: A scoping review was conducted. The digital interventions from the studies were assigned to the levels of workplace stress management defined by Kaluza (2011). Specific criteria were developed to assess compatibility for transferability to hybrid work models.
Results: 13 studies were included. Categories: Apps for independent use, apps with coaching support, web-based programs for independent use, web-based programs with coaching support, synchronous digital courses. Effectiveness: N=10 showed significant positive effects on stress and stress-related states. Levels of stress management: N=11 demonstrate behavioral prevention approaches, n=2 also integrate the relationship level. Transferability to hybrid work models: N=8 met at least 4/5 criteria for transferability to hybrid work models.
Discussion:There is a strong focus on app-based applications and individual behavioral prevention. The significance and effect sizes of the results indicate great potential. The heterogeneity in terms of measurements and instruments continues to complicate comparability and meaningfulness. Mediators are not fully understood, and the theoretical foundations are often not explicit. Despite high compatibility with hybrid work models, further research is needed to fully exploit the potential
