SOCIO-CULTURAL DIVERSITY AND PERFORMANCE OF NIGERIA ELECTRICITY MANAGEMENT SERVICES AGENCY NIGERIA
This study focused on the impact of social-cultural diversity on the performance of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency headquarters in Abuja (NEMSA). The objectives of the study are to ascertain the extent at which sociocultural diversity influences the productivity of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency Abuja, to ascertain the extent at which sociocultural diversity influences the profitability of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency in Abuja, and to ascertain the extent at which sociocultural diversity influences the market share of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency Abuja. The population of the study comprised of 70 employees of Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency headquarters Abuja (NEMSA). Survey research design was used and questionnaires were administered to collect data. Data were presented using SPSS. Correlation and regression analysis were conducted. The major findings in the study revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between sociocultural diversity and productivity of Nigeria electricity management services agency headquarters Abuja. Lastly, the study revealed that there is a positive and significant relationship between sociocultural diversity and the market share or sales of Nigeria electricity management services agency headquarters Abuja. It is therefore recommended that organizations should implement appropriate strategies for the given socio[1]cultural environment to aid successful organizational performance
Effect of Service Quality on Customer Retention of Hotel Businesses in Taraba State, Nigeria
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of service quality on customer retention in hotel business in Wukari, Taraba State Nigeria. The effect of three proxies of service quality: tangibility, employees’ responsiveness and service assurance on customer retention were studied. The study adopts a quantitative approach where 388 hotel customers were surveyed using questionnaire. Multiple regression was used to test the three null hypotheses formulated for the study. The finding of the study showed that hotel service tangibility, employees’ responsiveness and service assurance given to customers affect customer retention positively and significantly. The study thus recommends that hotels should improve their physical structures, train employees to be polite in responding to customers’ needs, and build confidence in the minds of the customers so that they would always remember the hotel and patronized them
FINANCIAL CONTROL AND FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR IN NORTH EAST NIGERIA
The Nigeria public sector has consistently witnessed a decline in its performance and productivity occasioned by the poor state of financial accountability in the system partly from inadequate and poor internal control mechanisms. This study was therefore carried out to examine whether financial control has any effect on financial accountability in the public sector in North East Nigeria. The specific objective was to assess the effect of public sector audit, budgetary control, and procurement processes on financial accountability of the public sector in North East Nigeria. The study employed a cross-sectional research design on a sample size of 128 employees selected from the Office of the Auditor General of the six states in North East Nigeria while questionnaire was used for data collection. The multiple regression analysis conducted revealed that while public sector audit and procurement processes has a significant positive effect on financial accountability in the public sector in North East Nigeria, budgetary control was found to have no significant effect on financial accountability. The study recommended that state governments should strengthen their audit procedures and mechanism as a sound public sector audit framework will help improve financial accountability. The study also recommended that the procurement processes in all the states in Nigeria should be improved upon and legislated. In that way, the financial accountability in the Nigeria public sector will be improved
TALENT ENGAGEMENT AND EMPLOYEES’ COMMITMENT IN PRIVATE HOSPITALS IN FCT-ABUJA
The growing turnover rate of medical practitioners in the health sector has become a huge source of concern, despite several government intervention actions. It is in this light that this study examined the effect of talent engagement on employee commitment in private hospitals in FCT-Abuja. The study was conducted using a dataset of 98 medical practitioners in private Hospitals in the FCT. Primary data source was used. Questionnaire was used for data collection. Reliability was determined using Cronbach alpha with the result confirming the reliability of the scales while content validity was used to determine the validity of the study scales. Multiple regression technique was used to analyse the data. The regression result showed that talent cognitive engagement, physical engagement, and emotional engagement all had a significant effect on employee commitment in hospitals in the FCT. The study concludes that talent engagement is an important factor in enhancing employee commitment in private hospitals in FCT-Abuja. It was recommended that the hospitals management should prioritize talent engagement as a key organizational objective and incorporate it into their overall strategy to improve employee commitment
NONE-MONETARY REWARD AND EMPLOYEES’ JOB PERFORMANCE IN PORT HARCOURT ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION COMPANY (PHED), CROSS RIVER STATE
This study examined the effect of none-monetary reward on employees’ job performance in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in Cross River State. The study used descriptive research design to study a sample of 93 employees out of 150 population of the company staffs in Cross River State through the help of Taro Yamane sample size formula. Data was collected through the use of structured questionnaires in 5-Likert scale format. Both simple percentages and Ordinary Least Square (OLS) multiple regression were used as the descriptive and inferential statistical tools for data analysis. The study discovered that none-monetary reward has significant effect on employees’ job performance in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED). It was specifically revealed that none-monetary reward practices such as staff recognition, and staff development opportunities have influence job commitment, efficiency and overall job performance of employees in Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) in Cross River State. The study thus, recommends that management of Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) should continue the use of none-monetary reward such as recognizing employees’ job well done through gift presentation, awards etc. and as well giving of their employees more developmental opportunities in their various job profession to gain employees’ citizenship behavior, improve employees’ commitment and job performance
EFFECTS OF INTELLECTUAL CAPITAL COMPONENTS ON OPERATIONAL PERFORMANCE OF DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS
This study examines how different aspects of intellectual capital (IC) affect deposit money banks' (DMBs') operational performance (OP) in Jalingo, Taraba state. Human Capital (HC), Structural Capital (SC) and Relational Capital (RC) were the three components of intellectual capital used to test the influence of IC on the operational performance of DMBs in Jalingo. In this study, a cross-sectional survey approach was used. Data was gathered from the operating staff of the 13 DMBs in Jalingo using a structured questionnaire. 357 valid questionnaires were retrieved from a total of 399 that were distributed. Utilizing PLS-SEM, the data was examined. The study's findings demonstrated that the three IC components—HC, SC, and RC—significantly improved the operating efficiency of DMBs in Jalingo. The operational effectiveness of DMBs is also most strongly impacted by HC. The study concludes that IC has strong, beneficial influence on DMBs' operational performance
Effect of Cash Holding and Financial Performance of Conglomerates Firms Listed in Nigeria Stock Exchange
The study investigates the effect of cash holding and financial performance of 5 quoted Conglomerate Companies on the Nigerian Exchange as at the 31st December, 2021. The study covered the period of 6 years (2015-2021). Financial performance was measured through return on assets while asset growth, sales growth and profitability are set to measure cash holding. In this study, ex-post facto research design was used and longitudinal panel which comprises sectional and time series data. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression. The findings of the study revealed that among the variables of the study, independent variables have positive effect on cash holding with the exemption of assets growth that has no significant influence. Thus, the study recommends that; conglomeration firms management in Nigeria are expected to use more of sales growth and profitability in their business since it improves firms financial performance and reduce the use of asset growth as it deceases the financial performance
YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT, CAUSES, EFFECTS AND IMPLICATION ON NIGERIA’S SECURITY INDUSTRY
Unemployment has been a menace impinging negatively on all facets in Nigeria. Its manifestation in the world most populous black nation leaves deleterious consequences on crime and security industry. This study sets out to uncover the causes of youth unemployment and its effects on crime and the implication of heightened criminal activities on Nigeria’s security industry through the interrogation of secondary data. The study appraised the repertoire of seeming gap in other studies which conceived Nigeria’s increasing population and sociocultural factors as causes of unemployment and that unemployment leveraged the manifestation of property crime. Findings suggest that the causes of unemployment and its effects in Nigeria are beyond increasing population and socio-cultural factors as well as the marks it left on property crime. Nigeria’s unemployment is tied to the interplay of job racketeering and unequal opportunities among job seekers, job migration due to discrepancies in salaries and job dissatisfaction, poor skills and neglect of agriculture among others. This accounts in no small measure to the heightened spates of violent crime like armed robbery, terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and area boy syndrome. The proliferation of high profile crime has created daunting implication on Nigeria’s security industry like increased in military budget, killing of security personnel and disinterest in enrolment into the Nigerian Police despite the growing pace of unemployment. It is recommended among other factors the need to address the problem of job racketeering and half baked job seekers as well imbue entrepreneurial skills amongst students across all sectors of education in Nigeria
THE ROLE OF CORPORATE LANGUAGE MANDATE IN CROSS CULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN NIGERIA
A diverse workforce offers a wide range of ideas and talents and consequently a robust pool of resources for organizations. However, this does not happen without presenting challenges chief of them being communication across the diverse cultures. To overcome these stresses, most corporation opt for a common corporate language that mandates every employee to communicate using the same language. Using Hosfetde’s cultural model, this study analyzed the role corporate language plays to ensure efficient communication within multi-cultural organizations in Nigeria not just from the perspective of the native speakers but for those who are mandated to speak the language for work purposes. The study concludes that a mandatory language in Nigeria may lead to communication inefficiencies therefore, a mandatory cooperate language needs to be accompanied with training. The study recommend that management of such organizations invest in training of its workforce specifically in effective communication amidst mixed cultures
BOKO HARAM ACTIVITIES AND CHALLENGES OF RESETTLING INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS (IDPS) IN THEIR COMMUNITIES IN BORNO STATE, NIGERIA
This study examines the challenges Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) encounters after going back to their communities as a result of Boko Haram (BH) activities in Borno state, Nigeria. Qualitative method of data collection were used were both primary and secondary sources of data was utilized,in primary source of data survey method and the use of Key Informant Interview KII was utilized. While secondary sources of data were obtained from journals,desertations and reports from International Organizations for Migration. These study revealed that people were mostly displaced either by violent conflict like war, as in BH activities in Borno or natural disaster, although BH conflict contributed more to people’s displacement in the Borno. The study revealed that most IDPs returned to their places still live in camps, especially those who hail from villages and are faced with challenges like rape, kidnapping, poor access to farm land, shelter, food to eat and fear of attacks by the insurgents. This study exposed that resettlements is only possible if the security of life and property have been fully achieved and supported by deploying equipped security personnel to returnee’s communities. As a result, efficiency and Motivation theories were reviewed however Maslow’s motivation theory was adopted as a theoretical guide for the study. These studies recommend that to achieve successful resettlement, government most first find a lasting solution to end the war against BH insurgency. Finally, the government and donors should provide agricultural inputs in the form of support during the first two years of resettlement to the IDPs to empower them
