This paper focusses the research and critical review of poetic metre of Mir Taqi Mir's published 41 Salams and Marasi. The art of Marsia has passed through various stages of evolution traveling from Persia to South India, from South India to Delhi and from Delhi to Lucknow. It is said that the succeeding poets of Lucknow have perfected this genre. However, the credit of bringing this art to light in Lucknow goes to Dehlavi poets, especially Mir and Sauda. According to the research, Mir wrote 41 Salams and Marasi during his stay in Lucknow, which were not included in the initial published Kuliyat. The later published Kuliyats are the first to include them in the edited Kuliyat of Ibadat Barelvi. Ibadat Barelvi and Kalb-e-Ali Khan Faiq's Kuliyat were left out by including some Marasi and Salams, which were later compiled and published in 2007 under the auspices of the National Council for the Promotion of Urdu Language. These 41 Salams and Marasi consist of 14 poetic metre, which have been reviewed in detail in this paper.

Mustafa Zaidi (1930-1970) a well-known poet and a talented CSP officer whose work especially in (Urdu Nazm and Ghazal) had been appreciated by such literary stalwarts as Josh Maleehabadi and Firaq Gorakhpuri. The initial phase of Zaidi’s poetry was a romantic one, in every sense of the word, but gradually he began to deplore the ruthless realities of a more wearisome nature and turned sour. The interesting fact is that, though Zaidi was not a conventional religious person, his poetry reveals his deep association with religious affairs. He used Karbala as a Metaphor in many of his poetic expressions. In the last phase of his life, he was writing a marsiya named Karbala Aye Karbala but due to his untimely death, it remained incomplete.  He  wrote 150 couplets of this marsiya which indeed are a significant addition  in the Urdu Marsiyas. In this research paper,  a detailed critical analysis of Karbala Aye Karbala has been made with keeping in view to reveal its literary significance among the others of the same genre.
