The literal meanings of Research are Search and retrieval of facts. There is a strong tradition of research or Literary research in Urdu. Although its earliest traces are found in ancient Urdu poets and Sir Syed, Hali, Shibli and some of their contemporaries are recognized among its founders, but in the real sense, its rise and evolution dates back to the twentieth century. On the contrary, in the twentieth century, it was given the status of a unique field of knowledge and rules and regulations were laid down for it. Among the scholars of this era, the names of Moulvi Abdul Haq, Hafiz and Jameel Jalibi etc.are noteworthy.
Jamil Jalibi's name is important in the history of Urdu literary in many ways. In addition to research, criticism, translation, linguistics, lexicography, terminology, he has a strong reputation in many fields of knowledge and literature and his achievements in every field are very important and significant. But even in all of them, his research status is more important and valuable.
The credit for elevating Jalebi to this position goes to his own determination, hard work and perseverance.

Letters are the main source for literary research, biography and social history, The importance of letters is attributed to the well-known personality. Celebrity letters have a distinct social and historical status. The letters cover the correspondent's individual problems as well as the collective psychology of the period. Letters are very important literary research, social research and political research. The letters are of equal importance to a literary research and social researcher. Mirza Ghalib, Rajab Ali Sarwer, Maulvi Nazir Ahmad, Sir Sayyed, Abul Kalam Azad, Prem Chand, Allama Iqbal, Hasrat Mohani, Muhammad Ali Johar, Abdulhaq and other literary figures in Urdu literature have literary, political, socioeconomic and religious importance. The letters of the aforementioned are the main source of literature in literary research. The letter has many facets. Literary researcher can get material from them with his research point of view. The author's biography, habits, manners, attitudes and lifestyle can be viewed in private letters. From the political lines one can know his political life, political ideology, political situation and events and the political scenario of the same era,such as Hasrat Mohani and Zafar Ali Khan's letters. For example, Ghalib's letters are a political and social statement of this era. Prison letters revea the prisoner aspect of the author's life, like the letters of Faiz Ahmad Faiz. Letters written to woman (like girlfriend, wife) highlight some aspects of her romantic life, such as Shibli and Iqbal's letters. Religious letters can shed light on the author's religious beliefs and ideas,such as those of Abdul Majid Daryabadi, Ahmad Raza Khan Barelvi and Ashraf Ali Thananwi. The letters describe the author's financial situation. So this article will highlight the importance of letters differnet facets. Dr Farman Fathepuri (1926-2013), a prominent research Scholar and Urdu Prose Writer is well known all over the world. He has to his credit many research papers and critical essays. He spent his whole life for the progress of Urdu language and literature. Being a greate proponent of the importance of Urdu literature, he did a lot of scholarly work for the promotion of the language and left around sixty two books for the guidance of Urdu lovers. Urdu Ki Manzoom Daastanain is his research work done for completion of his PhD from the University of Karachi. In this article, an analytical study of this research work is presented

In 1936, Sajjad Zaheer laid the foundation of Progressive writers movement. Apart from him, M.D Tasir, Ahmed Ali, Dr. Mulk Raj Anand, Dr. Jyoti Ghosh and Iqbal Singh played a vital role in advancing this movement. Instead of flourishing imagination and fiction, and fictitious works, the progressive writers associated with the movement raised their voice against the feudal system and highlighted the problems of the oppressed lower class with the help of their written work.
Krishan Chandar, Ismat Chaughtai, Ram Lal, Ahmed Abbas, Muhammad Hasan Askari, Balwant Singh, Rajindar Singh Badi, Shaukat Siddiqui, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi are included in progressive writers. The progressive writers found new topics to write about in post-Partition India. They emphasized on human friendship and condemned the division of India, establishment of Pakistan and Hindu– Muslim riots and declared the establishment of Pakistan the roa-cause or Hind-Muslim riots.
Karishan Chandar, Ismat Chughtai, Ram Lal, Shaukat Siddiqui, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi, Balwant Singh and Khawaja Ahmed Abbas are included in the list of the writers of the movement.

The tradition of Travelogue in creative prose has introduced a new flavor to Urdu Literature. The growing popularity of travelogues in non-fiction prose cannot be denied. There is a strong tradition of travelogue in urdu literature with the help of which the civilization, culture and history of different countries and regions can be understood from new angles. Raza Ali Abidi is famous among those writers who has worked in different domains of literature. He is constantly writing in fiction and non-fiction. In addition to this, he also produced Children’s literature. Besides this, he continued to work in the field of column writing. In November 2013, he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by The Islamia University of Bahawalpur for his services in the field of broadcasting, journalism and arts. The reason behind his popularity in literature also depends on travelogues. Raza Ali Abidi is a travel writer whose travelogues offer a glimpse of civilization, culture and history. The main feature of his travelogues is the retrieval of historical consciousness. His style and historical consciousness makes his travelogues unique. From epics/legends to Sharar, Hadi amp; Ruswa Urdu fiction is rich with detective elements. Neeli Chhatri (1916) of Zafar Imran is placed first in this regard but the traces of detectivev fiction is also found much earlier, e.g in 1892. Munshi Mehboob Alam translated Dike Orber's novel, titled as Do Hareef Suragh-Risan in 1894. Mr. Abdul Ghani translated Arthur Canin Dyle's Yadgar-e-Sharlock Homes as Parkala-e-Aafat in 1903. The first original composition, in this respect, was Khan Ahmed Hussain's Shaheen Chor in 1897. In 1952, Ibn-e-Safi composed the first novel Diler Mujrim in Jasoosi Duniya, Nik'hat Allahabad. It was inspired by Vitor Gun's Iron side's loon. But Imran Series and Jasoosi Duniya brought a revolution in Urdu detective fiction. Countless fiction-writers attempted to compose Imran Series but did not match the standard. But still there are some worh-reading names like Ikram Allahabadi, Teerath Ram, Masood Javed, H. Iqbal and Mazhar Kaleem etc. In this short article, the hundred-year journey of espionage fiction is reviewed with historical continuity, from stylist to copyist to historical traces.

Muhammad Hussain Azad was a renowed Urdu writer who proved his maestro in the field of Urdu criticisim and literature. His ideas depict his era as well as the traces of upcoming time. That’s why his work and art has been appreciated worldwide. Many researchers has written critical books and articles about his life, work and effects. This article throws light on the critical work of scholars in which Azad's life and works are being analyzed. In this way, we can come through the tradition of Azad Shanasi through times. Editorial is an innate domain of a newspaper but Urdu literature has a brief history of literary editorials written by stalwarts such as Maulvi Abdul Haq, Abdul Majeed Salik and Zafar Ali Khan. The present era depicts a story of editorials in such a new way. Many research journals of Urdu have been published with the editorials and the authentic journal from University of Karachi, Department of Urdu, Imtezaaj has its own tradition for subject, analytical style and presentation in editorial writing.

In the last decades of 20th century, the importance of gender studies is increasing day by day. Kishwar Naheed is among the leading feminist figures of the Indo-Pak Subcontinent. She is not only involved in devotedly writing and publically speaking for this cause, but she is practically working for the grantment of women rights for decades, Not only in Pakistan but in every other part of the world wherever, women are facing difficulties in their lives, she has raised her voice through ink. This article deals with her book Women between Dreams and Dust in which she had given her stance on the basic rights of women and concluded several ideas as solutions which can prove to be helpful in order to lessen their problems. That’s why, in the current century, the importance of Kishwar Naheed’s work is much appealing to the universal narrative for the betterment of women.
اردو ناول پر ۹/۱۱ کے اثرات
This research aims at exploring the effect of the 9/11 on Urdu novels. Although, the incident took place thousands miles far from ُPakistan, however, it impacted the major spheres of life in Pakistan. Along with influencing the politics, economics and social lives of a lot of Pakistanis, 9/11 also affected Urdu novels. The novels written after the mentioned catastrophic event, reflect it intensely. This research considers Urdu novels written after the 9/11 to trace. To narrow down the research the study was conducted on selected novles ie; Khas-o-Khashak Zmaney and Qalah Jangi by Mustansar Hussain Tarar, Men Dehshat Gard Hon? by Mohsina Jilani, Kala Din by Younus Javed, Pas-e-Aina by Sarfraz Baig and Sifr Se Aik Tak by Mirza Athar Baig have been textually and critically analysed.
