No full textMultan is not only one of the oldest cities in the world but also has been cultural and educational centre in the valleys of Sindh and Hind for Years. It is considered as old as "HARRAPA and MOINJODORO" of "Gandhara art". The significance of Multan in cultural, educational and social context is shown from the fact that, this city is not only mentioned in the history thousand years ago but also present in the same situation. Because of this significance, many well known thinkers and philosophers came to Multan from far off lands. Al-bairuni is one of those and he is considered as the great Geographer, Mathematician Astronomer, Historian and Philosopher. He himself came to Multan and wrote in his books whatever was witnessed by him. This paper has accessed the possible information about Multan which is discussed in those books along with the life history of Al-bairuni and introduction of his books for the facilitation of research
Teaching Critical Thinking through Literature
Get PDFStudents of literature are expected to think critically and apply their critical and analytical kills to the texts they study. It is generally assumed that students who have red the text and attended the lectures would be able to appraise it critically when in reality the case is quite the contrary. Critical thinking involves the use of different cognitive skills, which do not come automatic and have to be taught and developed. This paper would argue for critical thinking as an important area of teaching as it helps students become self -motivated and autonomous learners who can apply their acquired modes of inquiry both inside and outside classroom situation. Critical thinking can be developed through critical reading, rather the two come together. It involves training the students what to look for and how to think about what they find. Leading the students through different reading practices such as inference, interpretation and also questioning the ideologies embedded within the text can do it. The paper uses the text of a short story Once Upon a Time by Nadine Gordimer to illustrate teaching critical thinking through literature

No full textIn this research article, the journalistic language of four Urdu News papers i.e. daily Jang, Nawa-e-waqt, Khabrain and Naya Akhbar of Multan city have been discussed / analyzed objectively and critically. Thus total no. of 3378 news items were analyzed in order to evaluate public / uncivilized and English worded based news items, of which total number of popular worded news items were 217, while English worded News items were 486. According to the findings of this research paper, the journalistic "Language of Niya Akhbar" was not up to the mark. Similarly, the journalistic language of Khabrain was up to the mark to some extent, as compared to Naya Akhbar. While on the other hand, the language used by Daily Jang Multan was better as compared to the rest of the Newspapers. In the last portion of the research article, valuable suggestions have been described
Analyzing the Forms Techniques of Teaching Listening Comprehension
Get PDFTeaching of listening is probably the most ignored component of ELT in Pakistan. Though it is the first window of mind, which gives birth to the very concept of language acquisition, it has not been studied in pedagogical perspective. There is a relevantly good rationale to discuss the nature of listening; it is a reciprocal process, and an active rather than a passive skill of communication, hence there are necessary techniques to master it by using variety of texts. The paper, therefore, is an attempt to analyze such forms amp; techniques of teaching listening, which could possibly help our teachers to understand this very important skill and use the same in ESL classrooms

Gender Disparity in Education-Extent, Trends and Factors
Get PDFThe Program of Action agreed at International Conference on Population and Development, Cairo in 1933 gave considerable attention to the need to raise education enrolment ratios for females. National Education Policy 1998-2010 expressed the feature of making arrangement for reducing gender disparities at all levels. The thrust of Social Action Programs (Phase I and II) was to reduce the gender disparity emphasizing on girls education specifically in rural areas (GOP, 1998:126,123). In the last decade the government has made efforts to decrease the disparity in education. What remained the extent and trend of disparity in the decade is the focus of the study. The possible explanations have also been presented. It is concluded that gender disparity has decreased in the last decade but at a disappointing rate and is still at an alarming level. It is comparatively low at college level

No full textThis research article introduces the contribution of Ibn-e-Haneef, a renowned scholar, in the field of Mythology with special reference of Urdu Language. Only a few scholar of Urdu have shown their interest in this particular subject. Ibn-e-Haneef's work makes him the most important scholar of this tradition in Urdu. He wrote more than ten books in which he translated Mythologies of different ages, Nations and Countries. In these books, he also gave his readers all the required material to help to understand these mythologies in a better way. He wrote about Middle Eastern, Greek, Egyptian and Hindu Mythologies. He is the only scholar belonging to sub-continent, who wrote about Eastern Mythologies with a great range of variety and a sense of pride. His work as an encyclopedic value. He is, no doubt, the most remarkable scholar of this tradition. His work both in quality and quantity gives him great respect among the scholars of his field
