Urdu short story established a strong creative relationship with mythology in its early stages. Main short story writers of this era like Rashid Ul Khairy,Prem Chand and Sajjad Haider Yildirum have used myths of various cultures and civilizations as components and raw material in thier short stories. This research article claims that Kharistan-o-Gulistan is the very first Urdu short story that has a clear mythical stuff. In the last and third part of the story we come across the myth of Zeus and Leda.  The Swan is the symbol of love and transformation in this story. The same symbols are found in Indian Mythology, in the story of Nul and Damainty. Hence, this story by Yildirim is linked with the mythologies of two different civilizations having similar symbols.

Following Coates’ methodology of data collection and data analysis, the study suggests that Coates’ findings hold true also for female British Asian friends
