No full textThis research paper is a detailed study of the text of Mir Taqi Mir's (1722-1810) verses of Ghazals, edited by Qalib Ali Khan Faiq Rampuri and published by Majlis-e-Tareqi-e-Adab, Lahore from 1976 to 1984 in six volumes. This text of Mir's poetry is considered reliable and authentic and is part of syllabi of different universities. This article brings out the textual and research mistakes of this "Qualiat" with arguments. Almost every mistake is pointed out and rectified after comparing the text of verses with different old published Qualiat of Mir Taqi Mir

The most original contribution of Maulvi Abdul Haq in the compilation of dictionary was listing of new compound words of Urdu. This list added to the existing treasure of Urdu language. Relationship between the attitude of students towards English and their achievement at Higher Secondary stage
Get PDFApplied linguists have often correlated achievement with attitude towards language. A study aimed at testing the validity of this claim was carried out. Two instruments - a 5– point Liker type summated rating scale and an achievement test- were developed. Both the tests were administered to 154 A-Level and Intermediate male/ female urban/rural students. The significance of difference between mean performances of different pairs of samples was statistically computed through z – test. Although the overall value of “r” i.e. 0.25 is low, yet the positive value indicates that magnitude of attitude does affect the achievement of Higher Secondary students in the subject of English

The Need of Introducing Communicative Syllabuses for Teaching English in Pakistan
Get PDFEnglish is taught as a compulsory subject at different levels (mostly from class I to BA/BSc level) mainly using grammar translation syllabuses in Pakistan. The teacher plays a dominating role in the classroom and the students are rarely involved in the teaching –learning process. The syllabuses put emphasis on the usage rather than the use of language. The students are given intensive practices in reading and writing. The purpose is, however, not to develop their skills but to prepare them for their exams (Hafeez 1997c). As a result, they learn the grammar rules and acquire limited reading and writing skills but are hardly able to use English for different communicative purposes (Hafeez 1997c, 1998b). This paper, keeping the importance of English and the objectives of teaching this language in the country in view, makes an attempt to explain how the situation can be improved by introducing communicative syllabuses

No full textAbu-l-Atahiya's life history, personality and his services in Arabic poetry are enlightened in this paper. He is the pioneer of divinity in Arabic Literature. During the Abbasian Era he put a dynamic change in poetry. He concentrates upon the inword thoughts and motives. There is indeed, an excess of thoughts or the intellectual element in his poetry. He uses simple language to express his thoughts. His main purpose in poetry is to throw light upon the realm of consciousness. He vigorously emphasises the dominant features and indicates details with a minute understanding of the individual traits. He also cuaots references of Holy Quran, Hadith, Persion verses, the quotations of Hasan Basri and Hakim Luqman in his poetry. His ancestors like Abu Nawas admit his Superiority. Allama Abdulbar Al Namri has compiled his divine poetry in the form of "Deevan. And Al Abb Lavees Sheikho compiled rest of the aspects of his poetry. Later his main verses were also translated in English. However Abu-l-Atahiya left a great impact on Arabic poetry. So he becomes the recognized guide, the master of all who seek rationality and at the same time creed.

While giving a comprehensive view or the back-ground of Faiz's Poetry and ideology, author has also pointed out the main aspects and trends of his poetic genius. By doing so, writer has given examples of relevant verses and poems from the whole Quliyat. In this way, it is brief selection of Faiz's most representative verses
