An Evaluation of Pictorial Illustrations in Urdu Dictionaries
Full text linkPictures are of paramount significance and interest to the dictionary users. This study addresses the issue of the use of pictorial illustrations in Urdu dictionaries available on the market. Pictorial illustration definitely aids in giving clear concept of words and enhances word sense disambiguation as the graphic demonstrations are easier to comprehend than complexities of words. Each word possesses a particular structure and form. With the intention of intelligibility and interpretations of different shapes of words, their proper sequence, and their synonyms, the dictionaries are brought into being. Dictionaries provide words but lack in usage. Most of the words are scholarly items and are in sparing use of mere scholars and philosophers. According to Al-Kasimi (1977), the use of pictorial illustrations should not be arbitrary and incidental. Meaning recognition job is made easy with graphic illustrations. To ascertain to what degree and for what ends, Urdu dictionaries exercise graphic demonstrations, a survey, based on Stein (1991), was executed. The dictionaries were indiscriminately singled out and looked into for any type of graphic demonstration. This practice was made to know about the dictionaries which deploy pictures for the purpose of illustration. This analysis reflected on the disposal of the demonstrations. Based on the survey, it has been found that not many of the existing dictionaries engage graphic demonstrations authentically. There were found a lot more discrepancies in Urdu dictionaries regarding the use of pictorial illustrations. The study concludes that ostensive addressing is a crucial lexicographical device to assist the lexicographer magnanimously to communicate all the requisite constituents and facets of headwords (lemmas)
The Dynamics of Language in National Perspective: Can We Ignore Lingua Franca?
Full text linkLanguage is not only a means of communication but also provides basis for developing and sustaining cultures and values. Historical evidences proved the effects of language on social, culture, economic, politics, society and education. History also revealed that the language of the conquerors became a common language for captors. This phenomenon still exists, the role of language in national development is inevitable and thus language is considered as foundation for a nation. Taking into account the role of language, this review paper which is grounded in theory provides a deep insight to study the above mentioned factors which contributed in transforming societies with a particular focus on Pakistani context. Next, this paper highlighted the role of national language and will discuss the related controversy. English and Urdu are declared as official languages and the nation is still perplexed to solve this issue. There is a strong social pressure that Urdu should be prioritized but this dream could not turn into reality yet. On the other hand, English as being an international language cannot be ignored for the sake of achieving international goals and standards

No full textSyed Abdul Hameed Adam (1910-1981) was one of the famous Urdu ghazal poets. Adam hailed from Gujranwala and was brought up in Lahore. He was a student of 9th class when his father Syed Haider Ali died of overdrinking. After passing matriculation examination, Adam started his job in military accounts as a clerk and at the same time he started composing his poetry. Poetry of Adam covers many topics but womanly beauty and winenbsp; are his favourite areas. Adam successfully promoted Urdu ghazal in the times when popularity of Urdu poem was on a rise. Adam's health deteriorated rapidly towards the end of his life because of excessive drinking. This article is an attempt to show some salient features of Adam's poetry and share some important information about his life.nbsp; This article concludes that Abdul Hameed Adam was an important poet in the tradition of Urdu ghazal and his contributions as a poet are valuable

This article studies his poetry in the context of a social and econmic ideology of 21st century called CAPITALISM. This doctrine penetrates deep into the society since it is based on the technoogical revolution and on the internalization of the market.Basically Majeed Amjid is a poet of aesthetic values of literature.He has not expressed his vision explicitly rather symbloically and metaphorically, this is why, some progressive writers criticize his approach towards socio- eonomic issues. This article deconstructs some of his selective poems to bring forward his views towards capitalism

No full textRasheed Hassan Khan is a well-known figure in the field of research and editing. He has been regarded as an important amp; authentic critic in modern editing. He not only worked upon research and compilation of old texts, but also tried to determine principles and standards of modern research and editing. Compilation of Urdu text in India was started in the earlier of 20th century. Molvi Abdul-Haq, Hafiz Mehmood Sheerani, Professor Naseer-ul-Din Hashmi, Molana Imtiaz Ali Arshi, laid foundation of this meritorious tradition of editing. Rasheed Hassan Khan was influenced of the above mentioned researchers and editors and was attached to their tradition. He was excelled in scientific principles of textual criticism as well as in pronunciation and orthography. The main feature of his compilation is the way it has been punctuated. He was also expert in editing of classical Urdu texts. In this research paper, his qualities as an editor have been presented

No full textEnglish has triumphed over all attempts to make Urdu a national language of Pakistan. During 2015, a three-member bench of Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Jawad S Khawaja combined three petitions alleging violation of article 251 of Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. After court proceedings, the judgment directed both federal and provincial government to make Urdu as the official language within the period of three months. Although there are various social, political, and demographic aspects of debate related to adoption of Urdu as national language, this paper will focus on legal aspects of the decision pronounced by the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The research will critically analyse interpretation of the apex court with the perspective of its enforcement at Federal and Provincial levels. The paper will present a systematic analysis of legal arguments presented in for and against adopting Urdu as national language of Pakistan. Moreover, it will highlight legal implications of enforcing the decision of honourable Supreme Court of Pakistan

Now William wanted to rule here as commissioner. It was the time to fall of British Colonialism in Subcontinent. In the start of Novel, writer reflects the mentality of William which is basically reflection of all Britain. According to that mentality British wanted to rule here with full power. With the passage of time William becomes a sensitive person. William does not belong to British policies. He Loves Hindustan that's why at the time of independence he preferred to stay in Okara which is city of Pakistan. Television Dramas Standard in Pakistan
Full text linkPakistan television drama acknowledge by their innovation in past. When our drama telecast during golden age of PTV, roads would become empty. Time slot of 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm was prime time in every family. Things vicissitudes suddenly after influx of private channels and production of television dramas has negotiated the quality which was seen in dramas during the PTV era. After arrival of private TV drama channels needless serials on air on our TV screens. Nowadays if we calculate the dramas we all would soon over count the drams. But such extravagance of anything is bad in drama industry it came at price of declining standards of TV drama. The paper reviews how to bring quality back in Pakistani Dramas and what are the key factors to gain such popularity that PTV dramas used to have. This research paper is prepared on the basis of information and data acquired through meetings and interviews with several well known personalities of drama industry
