    Spatial and Temporal Variability of Slip Rates on the Tuz Gölü Fault Zone: Insights From Zircon Double Dating of Offset Lavas of Mount Hasan, Central Anatolia

    Accurate knowledge of fault displacement rates is essential for seismic hazard assessments, with long-term slip rates being critical as constraints for the tectonic drivers of seismicity. The Tuz Gölü Fault Zone (TGFZ) is a NW-SE trending ~200 km long structure within the central Anatolian continental plateau. It consists of eleven parallel or sub-parallel fault segments, each ranging in length from 9 to 30 km, but seismic activity is scarce, making it difficult to pinpoint deformation mechanisms and magnitudes. Previous studies suggested that the TGFZ can produce earthquakes between M = 6.1 and 6.8, with generally higher displacement rates in the southern part of the TGFZ compared to the northern segments. Here, we studied the Akhisar-Kilic segment, which is located in the southern part of TGFZ. It dissects the southeastern flank of Mount Hasan, a prominent active stratovolcano, where several upper Pleistocene lava flows exhibit morphological evidence for faulting and hydrothermal activity. We conducted zircon double-dating, which merges U-Th and U-Pb geochronology and (U-Th)/He thermochronology, to date these variably offset lavas in order to establish fault geometries and offset rates. Zircon crystallization ages of four lava flows, sampled in duplicate or triplicate on both sides of the TGFZ, permit correlation between proximal parts of the flows, and the more distal lobes across the TGFZ. The youngest zircon crystallization age population in each of the two northernmost flows overlaps within error, and they are closer to equilibrium than for the middle and southern flows. (U-Th)/He dates record eruptive cooling and indicate a systematic increase from north to south, with eruption ages between 39.0 ± 1.0 and 151 ± 3 ka. Detailed morphological study of faulted lava flows utilizing a 5-meter digital elevation model (DEM) demonstrates that reasonable lava flow geometry can be restored within a range of oblique slip scenarios, ranging from primarily dip slip offset, to moderate right lateral oblique offsets. Combining the age dating and the geomorphic analysis yields vertical slip rates that can range up to between 0.5 and 0.6 mm/yr over the duration of lava emplacement in the southeastern sector of Mount Hasan. Because these rates are faster than previous estimates, we also expect that some TGFZ segments have the potential to produce earthquakes with considerably higher magnitudes than previously claimed. New slip rates covering a significant portion of the Late Pleistocene extend the fault history beyond the timescales of geodetic monitoring and historical records, thereby offering a significant vantage point for the derivation of seismic hazard estimates based on fault analysis.     When the concepts of housing and culture are considered in the historical process, housing is the most basic unit that is directly affected by factors such as the lifestyles of developing and changing societies, the economic situation of the country, the sociological structure, the political situation, and where comparisons can be made between the changing socio-cultural characteristics. Housing typology is shaped by different factors such as the political structure of the country, zoning status, zoning laws, planning strategies of cities, as well as being affected by the socio-cultural situation of the society. With the effect of industrialization and population migrations due to industrialization, 18. Apartment-type houses, which started to be built in England in the middle of the century and then started to be built in all European countries, started to be built after the announcement of the Tanzimat Edict in our country. With the effect of reforms, industrialization and population movements after the proclamation of the Republic, it is seen that apartment-type houses have started to be built in Yozgat. In this study, the development of apartment buildings in Yozgat in the historical process will be examined. For this purpose, survey projects of selected buildings were prepared with photographs and on-site measurements. An introductory table has been created for each structure. In these tables, in addition to the general characteristics of the houses such as island and parcel information, zoning status, number of independent sections, the names of the spaces, their intended use, usage areas, total net area, photographs, analysis studies prepared in the Depthmap program, access graphics and schematic diagrams are composed for the analysis of the spaces. The identified apartment-type houses were examined, and analysis studies were carried out using the Space Constellation method for the differentiations in the housing typology. Depthmap program and Agraph program were used for spatial analysis. In this study, it is aimed to reveal how the process of apartment building that occurs and develops in Turkiye is affected. The studies were carried out at the scale of buildings and unit residences, considering the residential areas and development directions of the city. To investigate the development of apartment-type houses, the urban development plans of Yozgat were included in the time periods determined. In the process of development and change of the city, while evaluating the apartment-type houses, the opinions of Engineers and Architects who have actively worked in the housing sector were taken as well as the information received from official institutions. In the historical process, evaluations were made on the factors that affect the development of the city. The city of Yozgat has also been affected by the cultural change that has taken place throughout the country. These developments and transformations in society have led to transformations in the spatial organization of socio-cultural structure and apartment-type houses. When detailed analysis studies were carried out on the process of apartment type housing buildings in Yozgat, it was determined that morphological and typological changes were experienced in apartment buildings from past to present.Konut ve Kültür kavramları tarihsel süreç içerisinde ele alındığında, Konut gelişen ve değişen toplumların yaşam tarzları, ülkenin içinde bulunduğu ekonomik durum, sosyolojik yapı, politik durum gibi faktörlerin doğrudan etkilediği ve değişen sosyo-kültürel özellikleri arasında kıyaslamaların yapılabildiği en temel birimdir. Konut tipolojisi Toplumun içinde bulunduğu Sosyo-kültürel durumdan etkilendiği kadar Ülkenin politik yapısı, imar durumu, imar kanunları, kentlerin planlama stratejileri gibi farklı faktörlerin etkisiyle de biçimlenmektedir. Endüstrileşmeye bağlı sanayileşme ve nüfus göçlerinin etkisiyle 18. Yüzyıl ortalarında İngiltere'de başlayıp daha sonra bütün Avrupa ülkelerinde yapılmaya başlayan Apartman tipi konutlar, Ülkemizde Tanzimat Fermanının ilan edilmesinden sonra yapılmaya başlanmıştır. Cumhuriyetin ilanından sonra yapılan reformlar, endüstrileşme ve nüfus hareketleri etkisiyle Yozgat'ta da Apartman tipi konutların yapılmaya başladığı görülmektedir. Bu çalışma Yozgat'ta apartman yapılarının tarihsel süreç içindeki gelişimleri incelenecektir. Bunun için seçilmiş yapıların, fotoğraflar ve yerinde yapılan ölçümlerle rölöve projeleri çıkartılmıştır. Her yapı için tanıtım tablosu oluşturulmuştur. Bu tablolarda konutların, ada ve parsel bilgileri, imar durumu, bağımsız bölüm sayısı gibi genel özelliklerinin yanı sıra, mekânların analizine yönelik olarak mekânların isimleri, kullanım amaçları, kullanım alanları, toplam net alan, fotoğraflar, Depthmap programında hazırlanan analiz çalışmaları, erişim grafiği ve şematik diyagramlardan meydana gelmektedir. Tespit edilen apartman tipi konutlar irdelenerek, konut tipolojisindeki farklılaşmalar için mekan dizim yöntemi kullanılarak analiz çalışmaları yapılmıştır. Mekânsal analizler için Depthmap programı ve Agraph programı kullanılmıştır. Bu çalışmada Türkiye'de oluşan ve gelişen apartmanlaşma sürecinin nasıl etkilendiğinin ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmalar şehrin yerleşim alanları ve gelişme yönleri göz önünde bulundurularak bina ve birim konut ölçeğinde yapılmıştır. Apartman tipi konutların gelişimini araştırmak için tespit edilen zaman dilimleri içerisinde Yozgat'ın kentsel gelişme planlarına yer verilmiştir. Kentin gelişim ve değişim sürecinde apartman tipi konutların değerlendirmesi yapılırken resmi kurumlardan alınan bilgilerin yanı sıra konut sektöründe aktif olarak çalışmış mühendis ve mimarların görüşleri alınmıştır. Tarihi süreç içerisinde şehrin gelişiminde etken faktörler üzerinde değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Yozgat kenti'de ülke genelinde yaşanan kültürel değişimden etkilenmiştir. Toplumda yaşanan bu gelişmeler ve dönüşümler sosyo-kültürel yapı apartman tipi konutlarda mekânsal organizasyonunda dönüşümlere sebep olmuştur. Yozgat'ta apartman tipi konut yapıları üzerinde geçirmiş olduğu süreç detaylı olarak analiz çalışmaları yapıldığında, apartman yapılarında geçmişten günümüze morfolojik ve tipolojik değişikliklerin yaşandığı tespit edilmiştir

This search uses proton-proton collision data at root s = 13 TeV collected by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC during 2016-2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb(-1). The T quark is assumed to have charge 2/3 and decay to a top (t) quark and a Higgs (H) or Z boson. Hadronic decays of the t quark and the H or Z boson are reconstructed from the kinematic properties of jets, including those containing b hadrons. No deviation from the standard model prediction is observed in the reconstructed tH and tZ invariant mass distributions. The 95% confidence level upper limits on the product of the production cross section and branching fraction of a T quark produced in association with a b quark and decaying via tH or tZ range from 1260 to 68 fb for T quark masses of 600-1200 GeV.We congratulate our colleagues in the CERN accelerator departments for the excellent performance of the LHC and thank the technical and administrative staffs at CERN and at other CMS institutes for their contributions to the success of the CMS effort.     On Kantorovich Variant of Brass-Stancu Operators

    In this study, we deal with Kantorovich-type generalization of the Brass-Stancu operators. For the sequence of these operators, we study L- p-convergence and give some upper estimates for the L- p-norm of the approximation error via first-order averaged modulus of smoothness and the first-order K K -functional. Moreover, we show that the Kantorovich generalization of each Brass-Stancu operator satisfies variation detracting property and is bounded with respect to the norm of the space of functions of bounded variation on [ 0 , 1 ]. Finally, we present graphical and numerical examples to compare the convergence of these operators to given functions under different parameters

    A Preliminary Study for Radar-Based Fall Detection Using Power Spectral Density Features Obtained by Welch Method

This paper presents a preliminary study of high-accuracy fall detection using general machine learning methods, as opposed to intensive and computationally complex deep learning. After pre-processing the radar data, power spectral densities (PSDs) are obtained using the Welch method and used as features in the classifiers. The fall is detected using four different classifiers and their derivatives. The Ensemble bagged trees algorithm detects the falls with 1 0 0% accuracy. The accuracy of other classifier types is also not negligible. In addition, the classification has been carried out with the proposed method for four different types of activities and it has been observed that the results are promising. © 2024 IEEE

    Assessment of the Effects of Different Variable Weights on Wildfire Susceptibility

    In this study, wildfire susceptibility is mapped using various multi-criteria decision analysis techniques (AHP, SAW and VIKOR) and machine learning algorithms (MaxEnt and logistic regression) to reveal the response of models for wildfires. In this study, it is suggested that using natural weights generated by machine learning algorithms instead of artificial weights in MCDA methods can increase the reliability of susceptibility maps because wildfires have very close relationship with climatic, topographic and environmental variables. The contribution rates (natural weights) were obtained using machine learning algorithms and incorporated into MCDA methods to make the spatial relationships between variables more obvious. As a result, eight susceptibility maps were generated using MCDA methods, MaxEnt and logistic regression algorithms. Correlation analysis showed that using natural weights instead of artificial weights increased the correlation between MCDA methods and machine learning algorithms. Each correlation value increased by 10% on average and the highest increase was determined between VIKOR and logistic regression from 0.6286 to 0.7580 when natural weights were used. In addition, 1035 existing wildfire locations were used to evaluate the reliability of generated maps. The results showed that the average risk values of 1035 wildfire locations increased from 6.04 to 7.23 using AHP, from 0.66 to 0.79 using SAW and from 0.35 to 0.25 using the VIKOR method. This indicates a significant increase in the accuracy and reliability of susceptibility maps produced when natural weights determined by machine learning algorithms are used in MCDA methods.No Statement AvailableKonya Technical Universit

    Lithium Extraction Potential of Hectorites From the Bigadiç Borate Basin: Mineralogical Characterization and Selective Cation Exchange Experiments

    Although lithium is a common element worldwide, it is primarily concentrated in specific areas, including pegmatites, granites, and clays, as well as brine. Today, research in various countries is exploring experimental techniques for extracting Li from Li rich rocks and clays. The Bigadiç boron deposits form in a volcano-sedimentary environment in western Turkey, and their boron minerals interlayer with significant amounts of Li-rich hectorite. However, the clays' high Mg content presents a significant complication, increasing the cost of lithium processes and necessitating an intricate extraction process. In this study, a solution with high Li and low Mg content was obtained by a two-step extraction process from raw Bigadiç clays with high Li content. Raw hectorite samples NaCl, CaCl2 and FeCl3 cation sources were mixed by the mechanical mixing method to provide cation absorption on the clay surface. The targeted ion, Li, was transferred from the clay to the solution by preferential displacement using acid treatment. The findings produced through DLi =[Li(clay)]/[Li(aq)] (ppm/ppm) and logDLi= 1319/T(K) + 5.5 ([Li(aq)]) -0.0806 formulae were analyzed and interpreted.     Structural Evidence of Pre-Alpine Orogeny in the Northwestern Part of the Central Taurides (Konya, Turkey)

    Turkey, mostly composed of continental fragments from Gondwana, contains important clues about the evolution of the Palaeotethys and Neotethys oceans. Different tectonic models have been produced by various researchers for Palaeotethys and Neotethys evolution. An issue of debate is whether the region was affected by pre-Alpine orogenic events, including the Taurides of Turkey. To address this controversy, structural features were investigated within Palaeozoic-Mesozoic units in the northwestern part of the Central Taurides to identify pre-Alpine orogenic structures. Detailed structural analyses have shown that the Palaeozoic and Mesozoic rocks in the study area experienced together at least three phases of deformation during the Alpine Orogeny, resulting in predominantly NW-SE oriented folding, regional-scale cleavage development, folded cleavage, nappe-thrust structures and low-grade metamorphism. In addition, mesoscopic structural analyses indicate that Lower Palaeozoic rocks in the northwest of the Central Taurides were deformed, folded, and cleaved before Alpine Orogenic events.     Measurement of Simplified Template Cross Sections of the Higgs Boson Produced in Association With W or Z Bosons in the Formula Presented Decay Channel in Proton-Proton Collisions at Formula Presented

    Differential cross sections are measured for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with vector bosons (Formula Presented, Formula Presented) and decaying to a pair of Formula Presented quarks. Measurements are performed within the framework of the simplified template cross sections. The analysis relies on the leptonic decays of the Formula Presented and Formula Presented bosons, resulting in final states with 0, 1, or 2 electrons or muons. The Higgs boson candidates are either reconstructed from pairs of resolved Formula Presented-tagged jets, or from single large-radius jets containing the particles arising from two Formula Presented quarks. Proton-proton collision data at Formula Presented, collected by the CMS experiment in 2016-2018 and corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of Formula Presented, are analyzed. The inclusive signal strength, defined as the product of the observed production cross section and branching fraction relative to the standard model expectation, combining all analysis categories, is found to be Formula Presented.     Being a person with a disability involves a state of limitation in every sense, and this limitation may sometimes require assistance from others in meeting basic needs. The increasing population of individuals with disabilities both globally and in our country has brought numerous legal regulations for the disabled to the forefront. Over time, with the emergence of various models, the position of individuals with disabilities in social and urban life has also changed. The right to the city for a person with a disability means that they possess equal rights in urban and social life like everyone else, and by cooperating with all integrated actors in the city, their disability does not become a disadvantage but rather integrates them into the city. In this context, it is necessary to produce solutions to spatial problems in cities by considering the special abilities and needs of disabled urban users. This study aims to investigate whether individuals with disabilities can fully and equally utilize their urban rights as determined by framework texts and legal regulations compared to other individuals. The goal is to establish a working method involving disabled individuals and all related actors, identify the rights of disabled individuals in urban spaces, and increase awareness of this issue within the planning discipline. The thesis aims to draw attention to the use of the city by disabled individuals within the scope of the principles of accessibility, cooperation, and integration as determined by the legal framework of the right to the city. In this context, it aims to examine the applicability and potential consequences of these laws and offer solutions to improve the situation. A survey was conducted with individuals with orthopaedic, hearing, and visual impairments living in the city of Konya, which was selected as the field site. Additionally, semi-in-depth interviews were conducted with all actors who have relationships with disabled individuals in the city. Through survey studies, data on the use of urban rights by disabled individuals were obtained by asking questions about their life experiences in the city, the problems they face, their needs, and their perception of urban rights. In-depth interviews were conducted to determine the role of local governments in defining and implementing the rights of disabled individuals, the advocacy and support role of disabled associations and non-governmental organizations in this process, and the difficulties and needs that disabled individuals face in urban life. The results of the study were evaluated using both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Through these interviews, the work of associations and local governments was examined, and the levels of cooperation and communication between them were determined. Survey questions helped identify the problems experienced by disabled individuals in urban and public spaces, and these problems were evaluated in the context of the right to the city. An examination of the activity reports of Konya Metropolitan Municipality since 2014 revealed that local governments care about disabled individuals and strive to carry out appropriate studies in line with the legal framework. The results of the in-depth interviews also supported this finding. However, according to the survey results with the participation of 105 individuals with disabilities, this effort is found to be insufficient for people with disabilities. It has been determined that while the city of Konya has reached a certain level in terms of the principle of accessibility, it is not at an adequate level in terms of the principles of integration and cooperation. Tarihsel süreç içinde ortaya çıkan modeller ile birlikte engelli bireyin toplumsal ve kentsel yaşamdaki konumu da değişmiştir. Engelli birey için kent hakkı, engelli bireyin kentsel ve toplumsal yaşamda herkes gibi eşit haklara sahip olmasını, kentle bütünleşmiş tüm aktörlerle iş birliği yaparak kısıtlılığının bir dezavantaj haline gelmeden kente ait olmasını ve bütünleşmesini ifade eder. Bu kapsamda, kentlerdeki mekânsal problemlere engelli kent kullanıcılarının özel yetenek ve ihtiyaçlarını dikkate alarak çözümler üretmek gerekmektedir. Bu çalışmada, engellilerin çerçeve metinlerde ve yasal düzenlemelerde belirlenmiş kentsel haklarını tam ve diğer bireylerle eşit şekilde kullanıp kullanmadığını anlamaya yönelik bir araştırma yapılması amaçlanmaktadır. Engelli bireyler ve onlarla ilişkili tüm aktörlerin dâhil olduğu bir çalışma yönteminin belirlenmesi, kentsel mekânlarda engelli haklarının tespit edilmesi ve planlama disiplininde bu konuya ilişkin farkındalığın artırılması hedeflenmektedir. Tez çalışması engelli bireylerin kent hakkının yasal çerçeve ile belirlemiş olduğu erişilebilirlik, iş birliği ve bütünleşme ilkeleri kapsamında, kenti kullanım durumlarına dikkat çekmeyi hedeflemektedir. Bu bağlamda, yasaların uygulanabilirliği ve olası sonuçları incelenerek, bu durumların iyileştirilmesi için çözüm önerileri sunmak amaçlanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda saha olarak seçilen Konya kentinde yaşayan ortopedik, işitme ve görme engelli bireyler ile anket, kentteki engelli bireylerle ilişkisi olan tüm aktörler ile yarı yapılandırılmış derinlemesine görüşmeler yapılmıştır. Anket çalışmaları ile engelli bireylerin kentteki yaşam deneyimleri, karşılaştıkları sorunlar, ihtiyaçları ve kentsel hakkı algılamaları gibi konulara yönelik sorular yöneltilerek kentsel hak kullanımlarına ilişkin verilere ulaşılmak istenmiştir. Derinlemesine görüşmeler yerel yönetimlerin engelli bireylerin haklarını tanımlama ve uygulama sürecindeki rolünü, engelli dernekleri ve sivil toplum örgütlerinin bu süreçteki savunuculuk ve destek rolünü ve engelli bireylerin kent yaşamında karşılaştıkları zorlukları ve ihtiyaçları belirlemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışma verileri hem nitel hem de nicel araştırma tekniğine göre değerlendirilmiştir. Görüşmeler ile derneklerin ve yerel yönetimlerin çalışmaları belirlenmiş ve aralarındaki iş birliği ile iletişim düzeyleri saptanmıştır. Anket soruları aracılığıyla da kentsel ve kamusal mekânlarda engelli bireylerin yaşadığı sorunlar tespit edilmiş ve bu sorunlar kent hakkı bağlamında değerlendirilmiştir. Konya kentinin 2014 yılından itibaren Konya Büyükşehir Belediyesi'nin faaliyet raporları incelendiğinde, yerel yönetimlerin engelli bireyleri önemsediği ve yasal çerçeve doğrultusunda uygun çalışmalar yürütmeye çalıştığı görülmüş ve derinlemesine görüşme sonuçları da bu durumu desteklemiştir. Ancak, 105 engelli bireyin katılımıyla gerçekleştirilen anket sonuçlarına göre, bu çabanın engelli bireyler için yeterli olmadığı görülmüştür.
