Social Media and Risky behavior in Adolescents: A Review of Research

    Get PDF
In today’s digital landscape, social media plays a central role in shaping adolescent behavior, identity, and social interactions. While it offers avenues for self-expression, creativity, and peer connectivity, growing concerns have emerged about its association with increased delinquency proneness in youth. This paper critically reviews existing literature to examine how social media use may contribute to behavioral tendencies linked with delinquency, such as impulsivity, aggression, defiance, and rule-breaking. Drawing on established theories including Social Learning Theory, Routine Activity Theory, and Ecological Systems Theory, the paper highlights mechanisms through which social media may reinforce delinquent behavior. These include exposure to deviant content, peer contagion in online communities, participation in risky online trends, and involvement in cyberbullying. Additionally, the review explores how psychological vulnerabilities like poor self-regulation, identity confusion, and sensation seeking can interact with digital platforms to increase risk. Family dynamics, particularly reduced parental supervision and modeling of online behavior, are also discussed as significant environmental factors. Despite these risks, the paper identifies protective elements such as digital literacy education, parental involvement, and participation in positive online and offline communities. This review concludes with implications for educational policy, parental strategies, mental health support, and the responsibilities of tech platforms. It underscores the need for multi-level interventions to guide adolescents toward healthy digital engagement and prevent the escalation of delinquency-related behaviors.

Exploring the Depths: A Comparative Analysis of Doctrinal and Non-Doctrinal Legal Research

    Get PDF
Legal research incorporates systematic findings on an identified topic and investigates the law to improve it. Researchers adopt both doctrinal and non-doctrinal legal research methods when researching the law. The right approach will ensure the effective fulfilment of research questions. Hence, this paper compares doctrinal and non-doctrinal legal research regarding their nature, scope, aims, essential tools, advantages, limitations, and interrelationships. These differences assist law researchers in deciding the most suitable type of legal research when dealing with their respective research questions. This paper also highlights that law researchers often use the non-doctrinal method within the doctrinal research framework to strengthen their suggestions and provide additional significance in pursuing law reform. The study's findings aim to assist law researchers, particularly novice researchers, in choosing the right type of legal research when developing papers

Assessing Sustainable Development Interventions by Non-Governmental Organizations in the Gushegu Municipality of Ghana

In the development world, there is little doubt that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) play a crucial role in improving the lives of recipient communities. In the delivery of support to developing countries such as Ghana, these organisations are perceived as more credible and transparent.  All development practitioners are increasingly emphasising the importance of project sustainability. A development intervention is considered sustainable if it continues to have positive effects and lasts longer than the initial timeframe, transcends the original spatial dimensions, and is independently adopted or adapted by the local population. The sustainability of NGO-led interventions in the Gushegu Municipality has undoubtedly been questioned due to the influx of NGOs operating in the Municipality, as more than 20 NGOs operate within the Municipality.  Many of these institutions are faced with challenges such as socio-cultural, economic, and national regime issues, as well as donor circumstances. Therefore, the study assessed the Sustainability of Development Interventions by Non-Government Organizations in the Gushegu Municipality. To achieve the research goal, the mixed method approach was adopted. Research tools and techniques, including questionnaires, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews, were employed as data-gathering instruments. Respondents, on the other hand, were observed and engaged using open-ended questions in open dialogues in order to get further insights and draw inferences about their viewpoints and conclusions. Findings show that the efforts of Non-Governmental Organisations within the research area's authority have not produced the expected results, as some have even collapsed a few years after the project organisers' departure. Also, Non-Governmental Organizations are concerned with sustainability; however, the government institutions, such as decentralized agencies, led by the District Assembly, and other parastatal agencies such as the Department of Agriculture, Water and Sanitation, Health, among others, have had no substantial impact on sustainability, considering the wanton duplication of initiatives in most of the rural communities. The attitudes and socio-cultural values of political regimes toward NGO-led development activities were not entirely neutral. It was determined that current economic conditions, donor strings attached, and the way NGOs create groups all hinder the sustainability of development activities. The study recommends a synergy among NGOs to avoid duplication of initiatives in communities and to foster stakeholder participation across all dimensions of the transformation agenda, and the avoidance of extreme government interference and partisanship in the discharge of their duties

    Get PDF
Stakeholder involvement during the project identification phase is a critical element of effective project management. While agriculture remains the backbone of Kenya’s economy, the performance of agricultural projects continues to face significant challenges, including delays, cost overruns, weak coordination, and inadequate stakeholder participation, despite considerable investments. About 40% of these projects are completed on time, with many exceeding budget estimates and suffering inefficiencies largely due to minimal stakeholder engagement beyond the identification stage. The current research examined the influence of stakeholder involvement during project identification phase on the performance of agricultural projects in Kenya. The study was guided by stakeholder theory. A descriptive survey design was adopted, targeting 115 staff members from the project coordinating units, alongside five purposively selected farmer groups. Data were collected through structured questionnaire. The findings established a significant relationship between stakeholder involvement at the project identification and performance of agricultural projects (r = 0.711, p = 0.000).  As per regression analysis results, the beta coefficient ?=0.585, t-value t=10.006 with p=0.000 indicate a significant relationship. Therefore, the performance of agricultural projects was influenced by stakeholder involvement during project identification. The study concluded effective engagement of stakeholders enhances the transparency and significantly boosts the performance of projects. It is recommended that that policymakers and project managers embed participatory structures, incorporate stakeholder perspectives to fortify accountability and embrace flexible management approaches that drive improved project performance

The Bodo people are a tribal group that has been around for a long time and has a rich culture. They live in Northeast India. The Bodo people keep their culture alive and give them power through folk performing arts. Like other cultures around the world, the Bodos have three types of folk performing arts: folk dance, folk music, and folk drama. Most of these have to do with the time of year, farming, and religion. The Kherai is the most important religious event for the Bodos. It involves special rites and rituals, and Doudini plays a key role in them. Doudini performs many dances to beautiful music. Along with the Kherai, Garza is also worshipped. On the other hand, there is a type of secular folk drama that has been passed down from generation to generation.  Thakhrifalla, Khemtha, Phuthula phala, Jatra Gaan, and Ek Thengiya are some of these. This paper investigate about how folk performing arts can help keep Bodo culture alive and give people more power. It talks about how these art forms are important to culture and history, how they affect the community, and the problems that come up when trying to keep them alive and promote them. The paper also discuss about how folk performing arts could boost the economy and offers suggestions for how to keep these art forms alive and well for future generations

Building Basic Accounting Equations Based on Pancasila

    Get PDF
This research is a real form and a concrete step in guarding the existence of Pancasila accounting which has been researched by previous researchers. In this research, an accounting equation based on Pancasila will be produced. Through the construction process, an understanding is based on the Pancasila philosophy of entity ownership theory. So it is hoped that it will grow into a comprehensive accounting science based on Pancasila. This research is critical research using Pancasila analysis tools, so basically there are two steps, namely technically and the researcher's objective relationship which is based on the Pancasila view. In the accounting concept based on Pancasila, accounting products must reflect Pancasila values. For example, there are Pancasila assets that reflect corporate social responsibility both on a large and small scale. This asset is also a form of Pancasila capital. Conventional accounting theory construction often fails to integrate ethical and moral values. However, by incorporating the Pancasila philosophy in accounting, we can reflect ethical and moral values ??through Pancasila assets and equity

The Influence of Domestic Political Environment on Stakeholder Engagement: Mediating Role in the Success of Malaysia's East Coast Rail Link Project

    Get PDF
The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Malaysia underscores the importance of effective governance in large-scale infrastructure development. This study explores the relationships among the domestic political environment (DPE), stakeholder engagement (SE), and project outcomes, including governance effectiveness and success. Grounded in collaborative governance and stakeholder theories, a conceptual model was developed to guide the analysis. A survey with 23 questions was administered to 361 stakeholders involved in the ECRL, with data analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) in SmartPLS 4. Results reveal that a stable political environment positively influences stakeholder engagement and project outcomes, while active stakeholder involvement further enhances success. Additionally, stakeholder engagement serves as a partial mediator between the political environment and project outcomes, with moderate explanatory power for success. These findings highlight the critical role of political stability and stakeholder collaboration in driving project achievements, though contextual factors suggest further exploration. Implications for policymakers and project managers are discussed, along with recommendations for future research to strengthen governance strategies in similar initiatives

The main objective of the study was to establish the influence of resource-sharing initiatives on conflict resolution in Baringo County, Kenya. The study was anchored on Resource-Based View Theory. The study employed a descriptive survey research design. The target population of the study comprised all 419 individuals comprising County Government Executive officers, Sub-County Administrators, County Security Committee member, County Peace Forum members, County Interfaith Forum members, Assistant County Commissioners, Chiefs and Chairpersons of Nyumba Kumi Elders. Using statistical formula, a sample of 136 elements was obtained and which was allocated proportionately. Thereafter, simple random sampling technique was used. This study used questionnaires in collecting data from the respondents. The researcher undertook a pilot test on 14 respondents in Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kenya. The collected data was analyzed descriptively and inferentially with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The study established that resource-sharing initiatives had a weak and positive correlation with conflict resolution and that resource-sharing initiatives had no statistically significant influence on conflict resolution. The study recommended the need for relevant agencies to establish and sustain targeted programs aimed at addressing resource marginalization. We also recommend the need for both the national and county government to develop joint community empowerment programs and activities implemented with direct community participation. Further, we recommend the need for both national and county governments to have deliberate and targeted plans for developing physical infrastructure and other support infrastructure in a manner that opens up these regions to development activities. We also recommend the need for increased government presence, increased number of police stations and other supporting amenities. Finally, we recommend the need for government agencies to allocate targeted funding, planned and developed by the communities so as to align community aspirations and needs
