Nuklearna energija i odgovornost prema budućim generacijama
In this paper I will try to reconsider whether the argument of responsibility towards future generations represents plausibile critique of global use of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is considered one of the possible solutions for overcoming various environmental challenges, due to the fact that it represents an energy source that can provide society with all the necessary amounts of energy for a long time and that does not create unfavorable effects of solid fuel emissions, such as the destruction of the ozone layer and the greenhouse effect. However, from the perspective of responsibility towards future generations, I will try to show how the nuclear industry, due to its irreversibility character, cannot represent the most suitable ecological solution in the present. I will try to further support the plausibility of the argument, addressing human rights as a modern ethical and political view, which bases moral responsibilities towards future generations on the liberal society values, according to which the freedom of individuals and their right to lead a dignified life are respected.U ovom radu nastojaću da preispitam u kojoj meri argument o odgovornosti prema budućim generacijama predstavlja prihvatljivu kritiku upotrebe nuklearne energije u svetu.
Pottery use, value, and social significance: Decorated bowls of the Late Copper Age Eastern Croatia
Decorated biconical bowls belonging to the Late Copper Age Vučedol culture (2880-2450 BC) are the most frequent type of vessels, represented in almost the same amount on several settlements in eastern Croatia. Predominantly, they were finely polished, both on the inside and outside, and decorated with motifs executed in furrowing and notching techniques, and filled with white paste or incrustation. Specimens from the site of Prisunjača will be examined in more detail. Use-alteration and analysis of morphometric traits revealed that they were used for serving and consumption of food without thermal processing. Despite very high production rates, however, these pots were frequently repaired and reused, suggesting that they were highly valued and had important meaning for society. This is also indicated by the context of deposition where only one decorated bowl was left on the house floor in situ, before its destruction.Belgrade Conference on Archaeological Pottery (BECAP) Pots and Society: Relationships, identities, and prestige/status

Theoretical views on the depoliticization and the twilight of the political
trendova i tehnokratskog principa vladanja u eroziji političkog i narastajućem otklonu
od politike. U zaključku se vagaju aduti i ograničenja prikazanih teorijskih stanovišta o
depolitizaciji. The paper examines two different conceptual perspectives on how politics and political
have changed at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century, as well as the
specific understandings of depoliticization implied in these perspectives. The first part
of the paper discusses theories (Rancière, Mouffe, and Žižek) that consider
depoliticization as a result of the systematic foreclosure or repudiation of the political
(i.e. moments of antagonism) and the post-political/post-democratic condition. The
second part of the paper focuses on approaches (Flinders and Buller, Flinders and Wood,
Crouch, and Hay) that see depoliticization as a specific (neoliberal) governing strategy
or technique. These approaches look at how politicians position themselves as agents of
their own disempowerment and shift the responsibility for public policy away from the
state through institutional, legislative, and ideological-rhetorical strategies. The paper
also examines the role of anti-politics and the technocratic principle of governance in
the erosion of the political and the growing political disaffection. The article concludes
by discussing the strengths and limitations of the presented theoretical approaches to
depoliticization
Dynamic narrating approach to ethnic discrimination in schools – adolescents’ perspective
Ethnic discrimination involves a differential treatment based on ethnicity that disadvantages
a particular ethnic group and negatively impacts life experiences and opportunities
of its members. It appears in schools, where peers are usually its perpetrators.
However, there is no data in Serbia about how adolescents interpret and react to
ethnic discrimination. Our aim was to explore the meaning adolescents make about
ethnic discrimination and to compare the perspectives of adolescents from culturally
dominant and the Roma minority backgrounds. Relying on the dynamic narrating
approach, our main tool for eliciting narrative data was a vignette about discrimination
towards a new student of an unspecified minority ethnic background taking place
in the school context. Upon reading the vignette, the participants were prompted to
complete four narrative activities, narrating from different perspectives. In this paper
we focused on two types of narrative prompts in which participants were asked to put
themselves in the position of: a) the student who was discriminated against because
of their ethnic background, and b) the perpetrator of discrimination. Narratives from
23 secondary school students (Mage 16.48; 15 female; 12 Serbian and 11 Roma) were
analysed. We analysed psychological state expressions – affective and cognitive expressions,
typically appearing in verbal forms, but also as nouns and adjectives and compared
frequencies of positive and negative affective states in two types of narratives,
as well as between Roma and Serbian students. Narratives from the position of the
discriminated student were richer, however cognitive and affective states were equally
represented in both types of narratives. Positive and negative affective states were
equally frequent in both types of narratives, with negative expression predominating
(e.g., felt ashamed, terrible, nervous) From the perspective of the perpetrator, what
triggered bullying were not only prejudices towards the other ethnic group, but peer
pressure, boredom or irritation. Ten participants demonstrated a reflective stance in
their narratives from the perpetrator’s perspective, showing guilt and repentance or at
least questioning whether they were too rough towards the peer. No differences in psychological
state expressions were found between Roma and Serbian students. Despite
limited data, we can conclude that adolescents of both minority and dominant ethnic
backgrounds apply similar linguistic tools when narrating about ethnic discrimination,
either from the perspective of the discriminated student or the student who
committed discrimination. They tend to detach from the perpetrator by finalizing
narratives with lessons learned about how bad it is to discriminate against someone
The significance of image amid crisis: psychoanalytic contribution to qualitative research
In a reality of perpetuating social turbulences, it could be challenging to grasp phenomena
that interest us as qualitative psychologists. Verbal materials (e.g., interviews) have
traditionally been prioritized in qualitative research. Nevertheless, during times of uncertainty,
it might be difficult for participants to coherently verbalize their experiences. By explaining
this “symbolic impotence”, contemporary psychoanalysis provides some directions on
enriching our methodology and expanding our research aims in this atypical context. Relying
predominantly on the theories of Jacques Lacan and Heinz Kohut, this paper puts forward a
notion of how the subject functions amid great uncertainty, surrounded by the chaos of
information. When the symbolic function fails to stabilize the subject, more primitive
mechanisms, such as narcissistic identification, emerge. In the narcissistic, imaginary
realm, images hold greater value than words. This may explain why, for example, the
presentation of the information in today’s media is at times much more important than the
content. Based on this psychoanalytic perspective, we argue that the greater the social crisis
is, the image itself, rather than the symbolic meaning, serves a more significant role for the
people. This notion implies future direction for qualitative research as it suggests that it would
be useful to pay more attention to deconstructing and analyzing non-verbal materials and
resources (e.g., media and pop culture), as well as their functions for the subjects, especially
in times of crisis. Finally, this reflection could open a discussion on the further development
of qualitative research methods applicable to non-verbal materials
The effects of self compassion on mental health
Self-compassion has been shown to be consistently associated with benefits for mental health and well-being across
diverse populations. The aim of the symposium is to present the results of four studies conducted on Serbian popu
lation samples, concerning the effects of self-compassion on mental health. The first study which will be presented is
a quasi-experimental study on a sample of RE&CBT trainees (N=276), of whom 180 attended the 8-week Mindfulness
Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) while others were in the control group. The results show that the MBSR pro
gram is very effective in increasing mindfulness, self- and other-directed compassion and positive emotional states,
as well as reducing negative emotional states. In addition, increases in mindfulness and compassion have been found
to have strong effects on reducing negative and increasing positive emotional states. The implications of including
the MBSR program in the development of various competencies and skills of trainees in RE&CBT will be discussed. The
second and third studies were conducted on a sample of 1728 participants from the general population. The second
study aimed to examine patterns of connectivity between symptoms of dysphoria and anxiety, and their relationship
to self-compassion. The authors performed state-of-the-art network procedures, both in terms of obtaining networks,
and the moderating effect of self-compassion on the structures of these symptoms. Results suggest that self-compas
sion may primarily serve as a moderator between symptoms. The third study, conducted on the same sample, aimed
to examine the mediation effects of self-compassion in the relationship between trait anxiety, interpersonal burn-out,
sleep effort, rumination and poor sleep. Results showed that both self-compassion and rumination are significant
mediators in the relationship between all risk factors and poor sleep. In the fourth and final study, the objective was to
validate the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) long and short forms in a sample of students (N=263) and the clinical popu
lation (N=69). The results indicate satisfactory reliability of both the long and short forms. The correlation between the
long and the short form was very high. Persons with lower scores on both SCS forms had higher anxiety, depression,
thought suppression and rumination while persons with higher scores had higher life satisfaction, self-competence
and self-liking. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed and higher order models were examined which showed
good fit only for SCS short form in the clinical sample
Languages and Ideas of Education of Aristocratic Women in the Early Modern Period as Potential Catalyst of Change
Whilst the noblest of women of the European early modern period were
often highly educated, a difference in status and future planned for her meant variation in education, including its language and the purpose it would serve. This paper analyses education among selected noblewomen from the late fifteenth until
the mid-seventeenth century. Their education and particularly that of languages
did not end in their childhood and they acquired remarkable knowledge throughout their lives. The paper follows language used in the education of several women
e.g. English, Lady Margaret Beaufort, English Queen Mary I, Spanish Catherine of
Aragon, or the heiress to the Swedish throne, future Queen Christina. Their education will be looked through the medium of language, as well as material that was
employed in their instruction – which ranged from prescriptive literature written
by clerics and humanists specifically for their female charges to their own ‘schoolessays’. These will offer a glimpse into language(s) of instruction of these high-born
ladies and in the existing notions behind such schooling. Furthermore, investigation of their education will not stop at their youth, but intends to incorporate their
efforts in spreading or employing such learning throughout their lives.
In this way, a rather comprehensive picture can be achieved of the language(s) of
schooling among noble women – a mother of a king, a queen consort, a princess
regent or a queen regnant – and of philosophical ideas behind it that as elements
of change in societies
Paideia : the language and philosophy of education
We see this volume as a part of the dialogue on the most important questions in the humanities and science. Taking the Greek concept of paideia as a precursor of modern notions of education, this volume is devoted to educational discourse in antiquity and beyond.
The institution of education is widely recognized as one of the most conservative forces in any society. Nevertheless, educational discourse is often a discourse of change and transformation. In order to better understand this paradox and the underlying patterns of thought behind education as an ancient and modern social practice, the authors of papers in this volume examined the language and philosophy of education in various disciplines and contexts
Cicero’s Educational Exempla: Pieces of Cicero’s Unwritten History of Rome or the Externalization of his Nostalgia?
The ancient Romans used exempla as the core of their understanding
of morality and as the central element of their educational system. Cicero’s use
of exempla has received some scholarly attention, but there are some questions
left unanswered. This paper addresses the question whether Cicero’s educational
exempla could be viewed as pieces of his unwritten history of Rome, or rather the
externalization of his notion of nostalgia
