Niewykorzystana szansa. O niedoszłym do skutku dialogu aksjologicznym Ingardena i Elzenberga

    No full text
In this paper, I take as a starting point an exchange between Henryk Elzenberg and Roman Ingarden concerning the mode of existence of values. Based on their correspondence, I attempt to trace the missed and lost opportunities for dialogue between the two great Polish axiologists. I demonstrate that while sharing an intense interest in the issue of the existence of values, they addressed them independently and in divergent ways. Following that, I also look at the posthu- mous fate of their unfinished dialogue and argue that their work opens a space for further exploration of the ontology of values

Queer cinema: Ways of representing and taming strangeness

    No full text
This article offers an analysis of the manner in which sexual strangeness is depicted in cinematography, as well as the strategies employed to challenge non-heteronormativity. The authors of the study postulate that in the history of cinema, several stages and strategies of depicting queer people can be traced. In the twentieth century, the period of emancipation and openness to sexual strangeness gave way to stages of regression and stigmatisation of queer people. The phobia of sexual queerness in cinema is a consequence of cultural traditionalism, which provides the foundation for orders, prohibitions, and strict sexual ethics

Ciało bez organów w kinie, czyli Deleuze kontra Žižek

    No full text
The article examines the influence of Gilles Deleuze’s and Slavoj Žižek’s philosophies on contemporary film theory, with a particular focus on their interpretations of the concept of the “body without organs.” A comparative analysis of their approaches reveals differing visions of the role of cinema and viewer subjectivity. While Žižek primarily views cinema as an ideological tool, fitting into the logic of “organs without bodies,” Deleuze proposes a more radical perspective in which cinema becomes a space for the manifestation of pure affectivity and the potentiality of the “body without organs.” The text argues that the Deleuzian perspective, based on the concept of primary signs and the affect-image, allows for a deeper understanding of the metaphysical dimensions of the cinematic experience, going beyond psychoanalytic interpretative frameworks

Przegląd problemów związanych z badaniem manipulacji w fotografii

    No full text
The study of manipulation is connected with many challenges, which are the result of its specificity (according to Barbara Sobczak, the manipulation is an intended action, beneficial for a sender and unaware by the recipient). The aim of the article is to indicate problems related to the study of manipulation in journalistic photography, which, by definition, should be a record of reality and cannot mislead recipients. The author reviewed the literature on the discussed form of exerting influence and also examined how the organizers of World Press Photo and Grand Press Photo define manipulation, what may lead to disqualification of submitted photos and who checks them and how.

    No full text
This study examines the complex identity formation of Doro in Ulrike Draesner’s novel Die Verwandelten as a nuanced representation of post-war generational experiences at the intersection of migration, cultural hybridity, and transgenerational trauma. Through an analysis of linguistic and narrative strategies, the research explores how Doro constructs a self-determined identity by navigating multiple cultural contexts and leveraging multilingualism as a transformative resource. Doro emerges as a paradigmatic figure embodying the intricate processes of identity negotiation, revealing how individual identity is a dynamic negotiation shaped by familial histories and personal agency. By examining the mechanisms of intergenerational trauma transmission and the creative potential of cultural hybridity, the study illuminates broader societal dynamics of belonging and self-representation

    No full text
This article focuses on Orson Welles’s public appearances and the performative character of his self-presentation—particularly with regard to two extended Q&A sessions recorded in the early 1980s at the University of Southern California and the Cinémathèque Française. Although these recordings were made shortly before the artist’s death, they have only recently become fully available to a wider audience in restored versions. Despite their significance, they have not yet received broader scholarly attention—their renewed circulation thus provides an excellent opportunity to examine their meaning and form. The analysis concentrates on the self-creative strategies present in Welles’s behavior and speech, which position him at the intersection of art and life. Special attention is given to his consistent use of irony, hyperbole, and deliberate self-stylization. The author of Citizen Kane appears as a self-aware performer who uses the format of public dialogue to sustain and update his media identity, blurring the line between the roles of artist and public figure.

The knowledge about the Holocaust is the credit of most states’ governments which included Holocaust education to school curriculum and supported visits at memory sites. One of the best known Holocaust memory place in the world apart from Israeli Yad Vashem is Auschwitz and The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, whose prestige comes from location within National Mall, containing the most important monuments and institutions shaping American memory. Not everybody, however, has the opportunity to visit such places. Fortunately, the discourse within this places happens as well in a digital form, on the Internet. In this paper, the author wants to review what can be learnt from the official discourse of this institutions within the Internet. In order to do it she will tap into the internet archives of these institutions as well as the archive in the understanding of Michel Foucault. He introduces the term archive in order to define a set of rules, which in particular epoch and society determine the discourses, which is what can be said and how it can be said. The archive verifies as well what won’t be made public and therefore kept in social memory as important and legally obliging

Various types of repression and forced, and in parts genocidal, transformation of ethnic and social structures reshaped Central and Eastern Europe. Until the late 1980s and early 1990s, the experience of Soviet communism was created and secured in a very limited way. In Poland, since the late 1980s, attempts have been made to make up for this by, among other things, creating collections of autobiographical materials and developing such testimonies through competitions. This article deals with the collection created as part of one of the aforementioned memoir contests. The result of an initiative of this kind in January 1988 was the creation of an archival collection in Breslau of almost a thousand units, containing memoirs, accounts, diaries and letters relating to life under Soviet rule in the eastern lands of pre-war Poland, as well as experiences of repression, especially deportation and imprisonment in camps. Until 2025, the collection, referred to as the Siberian collection, was part of the Scientific Archives of the Polish Ethnological Society in Wroclaw (now housed at the National Library in Warsaw). In order to make the most valuable testimonies from the collection available in print, the publishing series “Library of the Siberian” was established in 1991, which was continued in 2019–2024 as part of the subseries “Testimonies of the 20th century” (a project of the National Program for the Development of the Humanities). The article presents the history of the collection, characterizes its contents and introduces the results of the publishing project of the subseries, which, in addition to the bibliography of the collection, includes 16 source volumes, containing texts authored by 35 people. The chronological framework of the testimonies is the first half of the 20th century, with an emphasis on World War II. The text also outlines the difficulties the project team encountered during its work, as well as the specifics of the testimonies that were selected as valuable for publication within the subseries
