Duchowa radość serca. Uwagi o wątkach pasyjnych w emblematach w dziełach luterańskich duchownych

    No full text
The aim of this article is to examine selected themes related to the Passion of Christ as they appear in emblems produced within Lutheran circles. The discussion encompasses both motifs known from early works of religious emblematics (e.g. Emblemata Sacra by Daniel Cramer, 1617, 1622, 1624), as well as the verbal and visual structures found in edifying literature – particularly in prayer books and hymnals illustrated with emblems – which gained considerable popularity in the second half of the 17th century and the early decades of the 18th century. Among the prints belonging to the latter group – extensively represented, yet still understudied – this analysis considers not only compositions published in works widely circulated within the Lutheran world at the time, such as those by Heinrich Müller and Johannes Lassenius, as well as picturae that have remained unexamined or marginalised in scholarly discourse to date, including those found in the writings of authors such as Wolfgang Christoph Dessler, Georg Fidicen, Christian Gottlieb Kern, Johannes Quirsfeld, and Georg Christian Woytt. The primary focus is directed towards interpretative efforts to contextualise the content within prevailing trends in Protestant theology and piety of the period. Sources of inspiration, strategies for constructing meaning, and methods used to engage viewers directly also emerge as important areas of inquiry. To affirm the place and role of the analysed verbal and visual compositions in the formation of Evangelical communities, selected examples of their implementation in church interiors – primarily from the southern Baltic region (the Duchy of Pomerania, Gdańsk, and Ducal Prussia) – are highlighted

Między konstruktywizmem a surrealizmem. Nadia Léger i „L’Art Contemporain”

    No full text
The publishing project “L’Art Contemporain – Sztuka Współczesna” (1929–1930) is typically examined in the context of the critical work of avant-garde poet Jan Brzękowski, while the role of the painter Nadia Léger (then known as Wanda Chodasiewicz-Grabowska), the initiator and editor of the periodical, is often marginalised. The artist was responsible for selecting the works to be reproduced – a role that had a crucial impact on the character of the magazine, as did the publication of theoretical texts by her colleagues. This article seeks to adopt a reverse perspective and examine “L’Art Contemporain” through Léger’s eyes – as a platform from which she not only led the editorial team, but also helped shape the magazine’s identity. Léger’s editorial activity also had a significant impact on her own painting. The performative turn in the humanities provides a compelling framework for understanding her artistic stance. It draws attention to the agency of the artist – her capacity to actively reshape reality. Both transformation and the presence of an active (performative) subject – not a passive observer, but an initiator and creator acting in collaboration with others – are regarded as positive values from this perspective. Léger’s distinctive versatility is evident in her works published in “L’Art Contemporain – Sztuka Współczesna” over the course of just two years. During this time, the artist moved freely between constructivist and surrealist tendencies, both of which coexisted within the pages of the magazine, which was often described as eclectic

Sacred poetry represented in Angelus Silesius’ Cherubinischer Wandersmann

    No full text
The 17th-century concept of sacra poesis combined biblical foundations with ancient theories of divine poetic inspiration. This paper begins by exploring the biblical origins of this concept, which can be found, among other places, in the writings of the Prophets. Then, it discusses the theological and poetological implications of sacra poesis. Rooted in the theological concept of the Logos, as developed by the Church Fathers and later by medieval Logos mystics, poetry was seen as a medium through which transcendence could be revealed, allowing the presence of God to manifest in verse. In 1675, Angelus Silesius (Johannes Scheffler) dedicated his Cherubinischer Wandersmann to “the Eternal Wisdom — God,” from Whom came the “small drops” of “His Sea [of wisdom],” as he called his epigrams. The Silesian poet created a special design for his Cherubinischer Wandersmann to enable the circulation of the Logos by delivering the Word of God through poetry and directing it back to Him during the act of reading. This study examines Scheffler’s poetic sequence, focusing on epigrams that develop the image of the Logos to illustrate the poetological impact of this theological idea

Using unabridged literary texts in foreign language teaching is often perceived as risky. This article, however, argues that such risks are worth taking, especially when supported by well-designed materials and thoughtful classroom strategies. The paper presents a scenario for literary workshops based on the opening chapter of Olga Tokarczuk’s novel Prawiek i inne czasy (Primeval and Other Times), conducted in Polish and Portuguese, in both Poland and abroad, across three language proficiency levels. The author reflects on the international resonance of Tokarczuk’s work, the methodological challenges it presents, and the dynamics of applying the same text in diverse educational contexts
