Problemy z transkrypcją w kontekście nauczania języka polskiego w Ukrainie

    No full text
The article discusses the problem of transcribing Ukrainian surnames into Polish. These issues arise from a lack of knowledge of transcription rules among learners of Polish language (problems with signing correctly), teachers (learners do not have established Polish versions of their surnames) and the consulate staff (chaos in the spelling of the Polish surnames in the Pole’s Card). The problem also arises from ambiguities and inconsistencies with the Polish spelling in the transcription rules as well as from the overall complexity of the topic. The author suggests changes to the transcription rules, mandatory adherence to transcription rules by state officials and greater emphasis on teaching phonetics and spelling in Polish language education in Ukraine

Słynne góry Litwy. Część I. Nad rzeką Świętą i Niemnem

    No full text
The Lithuanian mountains are low in height but of great importance as components of literary geography and history. Święta River is Józef Weyssenhoff ’s home river, flowing through his entire homeland. It is above its waters that the heights of Wiłkomierz rise, and close to it rise the peaks around the town of Onikszta. It is a settlement of some import for Polish culture, due to the fact that it should be considered the prototype of the fictional Ponikszta from the novel Unia, one of several Lithuanian works by the author of Soból i Panna. The river is extremely picturesque, it meanders and flows through numerous lakes, including Lake Rosza, next to which stands Tarnów, the hometown of the writer’s father, Michał. The Święta River flows into the Neris and the latter into the Neman, a majestic river with forested hills above it. In the vicinity of the resort town of Birštonas (one described by Władysław Syrokomla) rises Vytautas Hill. On it stood the hunting residence of the Gediminid and Jagiellon families. Its memory has been immortalized in the historical records of Poland and Lithuania, preserved forever in the collective memory of both nations, although not even the slightest traces of it have survived

Okiem humanisty terenowego. Nowa Ruda w twórczości Karola Maliszewskiego

    No full text
In this paper, I discuss Nowa Ruda and the Kłodzko region as viewed by Karol Maliszewski and represented in his poetry, from his earliest poems written in the second half of the 1980s to his latest poetry collections. My argument revolves around the key concept of a field humanist on which Maliszewski relied to define himself (and his I-speaker). This notion brings together the various social functions Maliszewski performed and the responsibilities he took as a literature scholar, a teacher, a local community member and, above all, a poet producing local verses. These challenges find a suitable generic correspondence in the leporello, an inspiring form as it resists both the writer and the reader since the whole must be first unfolded and studied before attention is eventually devoted to a small fragment the way Maliszewski does

It’s general outline and aesthetics circle around motifs related to water and rocks, while its structure combines historical anecdotes and puzzles, guiding players through key locations related to the Giant Mountains. The narrative weaves in elements of local legends and nature, thus enriching the experience

„Maina i Kościej” (1843) Narcyzy Żmichowskiej w kontekście badań nad mitologią Słowian

    No full text
The article offers a comprehensive analysis of a single work, the early poem Maina i Kościej [Maina and Koshchei] by Narcyza Żmichowska. So far, it has been subjected to various interpretations, viewing the text from either biographical, intertextual (in relation to French literature), feminist, and philosophical perspectives. All of these readings are recalled either directly in the text or in footnotes. Notably, in the course of her queries, the author has not come across a study juxtaposing various snippets of information on Slavic culture and mythology embedded in the poem with the latest findings in religious studies. The ‘Eastward’ turn of European (and further) public discourse has resulted in the tremendous popularity of research on the heritage of Slavic pagan culture, which is currently experiencing a revival — not unlike in the Romantic period, during which Żmichowska operated. In this author’s opinion, Maina i Kościej is a work that merits a reinterpretation from a previously unexplored angle. The article initially outlines the historical context in which the poem was penned, taking into account both Żmichowska’s historiosophical interest in Slavic Antiquity and the period of the November Uprising, as the poem by Żmichowska alludes to both. The study mentions the sources the author drew upon while composing Maina i Kościej, including Adam Naruszewicz’s study on Slavic deities. It then follows with an in-depth analysis of the poem, taking into account references to Slavic mythology, other Romantic-era works, the distinctive poetics of the period, as well as relevant philosophical and historical contexts. As a result, it offers a novel interpretation of a text that deserves to be counted among the unjustly forgotten poetic works of the Romantic era

Postacie z demonologii słowiańskiej w wybranych utworach Tadeusza Żuka-Skarszewskiego, Zofii Kossak i Katarzyny Ryrych

On the one hand, the issue of Slavic demonology or, more narrowly, Polish demonology, as one among the motifs of Polish literature, appears quite trivial, but on the other hand, it raises many doubts. This article offers an exploration of this topic using the example of the works of three writers: Tadeusz Żuk-Skarszewski, Zofia Kossak and Katarzyna Ryrych. When Slavic (or Polish) demonology — as portrayed in literature — is approached as a separate, autotelic sphere that utilises its own motifs (or rather, its own topoi), the existence of a canon, of sorts, becomes apparent. What defines this research area is not so much my (freely acknowledged) fondness for fairy tales or folktales, but the Motif-Index of Folk-Literature. Therefore, the problem at hand is not the motif itself, but the way it is employed in a work of art (or other cultural text), namely the perception or conceptualisation of Slavic demons: Were they seen as actual, existing beings or merely symbols or archetypes

De invloed van expliciterende ingrepen op het beeld van de derde cultuur bij de ontvangers van de vertaling

    No full text
The present article aims at investigating explicative techniques used in the rendering of third culture elements in a heterolingual literary text as well as the infl uence of these translation techniques on creating the image of the third culture by the translation’s audience. The discussed issue is exemplifi ed on the basis of the third culture elements taken from the novel Oeroeg written by Hella S. Haasse and its translations into English, German and Polish. The analysis presents to what extent the translators infl uence the image of the third culture among the translation’s audience by explaining the meaning of the third culture elements in analysed translations

Onder en boven de wet. Het Franse West-Vlaams onder de taalwetgeving van 1789 tot 1882

The last native speakers of French West Flemish live in the north-west of France, in the department called Nord. At the end of the last century, their number was estimated at around 60.000. Since then, at least one generation has already disappeared. So the current number of speakers will not be much more than a few tens of thousands. That is at most 1% of the department’s population. The rest have adopted French as their mother tongue. In the sixteenth century, the situation was reversed. Probably less than 1% of the people mastered French. The aim of this contribution is to examine the eff ects of French language legislation on the decline of the West Flemish regional language from the French Revolution until Jules Ferry’s laws under the Third Republic

Od sztuki do przemysłu? Stosowanie znaków towarowych na polskim rynku literackim — rekonesans

Over the past few decades, the intersection of the two systems of protection under copyright law and trademark law has become increasingly evident in the cultural sector, which includes video games, literary works, music, and film. Although much has been written about copyright protection, the sphere of intellectual property in a broad sense in the cultural sector has not yet been the subject of extensive analysis and reflection in national studies. Using classes typical of the publishing industry, we therefore decided to search available national and international trademark databases. A preliminary analysis of the issue served to verify whether entities on the Polish publishing market recognise the need to register trademarks. Examples of such applications were identified, using as a criterion the authors who—according to research by the National Library—were the most widely read and earned the most in 2024, as reported by the weekly Wprost. In the case of publishing houses, entries submitted by entities with the highest revenues or those listed as the largest in market reports were searched. A preliminary typology of trademarks was also developed. Research suggests that, in addition to registering publishing brands, their names and logos, the names and surnames of authors and of literary characters as well as the titles of works and of publishing series are also increasingly being registered, primarily from the field of popular literature. This can be explained by attempts to commercialise these products on the merchandising market (selling gadgets, souvenirs, etc.). Importantly, the entities registering trademarks are not only book publishers, but also the authors themselves, who retain control over the non-literary distribution of products related to their work.  Analiza wykorzystania znaków towarowych na rynku literackim w Polsce. Typologia znaków towarowych rejestrowanych przez podmioty z sektora kultury. Przykłady znaków rejestrowanych przez podmioty z Polski. Próba oceny skali zjawiska i potencjału rozwojowego.

Vers une (r)évolution du développement lexical : intégration de la compétence collocationnelle en FLE par l’analyse de corpus

    No full text
The study has a dual objective. Firstly, it aims to analyse the place and pedagogical treatment of collocations in French language textbooks, specifically using the Édito B1 textbook as a case study. The findings indicate that the current pedagogical approach is insufficient, primarily due to the lack of pertinent usage examples that would facilitate learners’ comprehension of the collocation phenomenon and its proper application. Consequently, the second objective is to leverage corpus linguistics to propose a didactic scenario that enhances lexical acquisition. Within this framework, both educators and learners engage with extensive textual data to extract lexico-syntactic patterns, thereby identifying the most relevant collocations and their contextual usage
