    The fundamental thesis of the research is the belief that combining qualitative and quantitative methods provides new opportunities for interpreting the language of written records (using the text of Lazar Baranovych's collection of sermons Truby na dni narochytyja prazdnikovъ [The Trumpets for the Days of Great Feasts] (Kyiv, 1674) as an example). Qualitative methods make it possible to assert that the Ukrainian recension of the Church Slavonic is characterized by a distinct Ukrainian influence. At the same time, the use of statistical methods, namely calculations based on a frequency dictionary (repetition index, indices of concentration of exclusive vocabulary in the text and the dictionary, etc.) confirm the hypothesis of systemic differences between the language of the main text and the language of the prefaces. According to our calculations, the preface is characterized by a larger number of hapax legomena, a lower relative frequency of lexical units, while the mine text of the sermon is characterized by a higher relative frequency of lexemes, a higher index of repetition, etc.Засадничою тезою дослідження є переконання в тому, що поєднання якісних і кількісних методів надає нові можливості до інтерпретації мови писемних джерел (на прикладі аналізу тексту збірки проповідей Лазаря Барановича «Трубы на дни нарочитыя праздникɷвъ» (Київ, 1674)). Використання якісних методів підтверджує, що українській редакції церковнослов’янської мови притаманні виразні українські інтерфереми. Водночас застосування статистичних методів, а саме розрахунки на основі частотного словника (індекс повторюваності, індекси концентрації або винятковості лексики в тексті й словнику та ін.) підтверджують гіпотезу про системні відмінності мови основного тексту від мови передмов. Як показують обчислення, передмова відзначається більшою кількістю гапаксів, меншою відносною частотою вживання лексичних одиниць, натомість основний текст проповіді характеризується вищою відносною частотою вживання лексем, вищим індексом повторюваності тощо

    Příspěvek zpřehledňuje jeden ze sémantických větných typů založený na vazbě k prostoru jako statické relaci. Ověřuje systémové prostředky, kterými lokalizaci vyjadřujeme v současné češtině. Výzkum se soustřeďuje na slovesa s jejich intenčně-valenčním potenciálem, na pádové struktury včetně specifikace pádové sémantiky předložkou, na adverbia loci včetně jejich pronominálního podtypu. Objasňuje kognitivně bazální, podmiňující roli prostorové dimenze pro chápání vztahů temporálních a kauzálních.This paper clarifies the semantic type of sentences based on its relation to space as a static concept. It verifies the systematic means by which localization is expressed in contemporary Czech. The research focuses on verbs with their intention-valence potential, on fall structures including the specification of fall semantics by preposition, on locative adverbsincluding their pronominal subtype. It elucidates the cognitively fundamental and conditioning role of the spatial dimension in the understanding of temporal and causal relations

    Angelus Silesius, the theologian, philosopher and mystic, was influenced by both the obliterative mysticism of the Cistercian current, as well as the depth mysticism represented by Master Eckhart and John Tauler, with which he probably became acquainted through the writings of Martin Luther. However, his own proposal is highly original. It manifests itself on three different levels. Firstly in his life – after all, he is born in the year of the death of the greatest Silesian mystic, Jacob Böhme, and is ‘rejected’ in his Lutheranism, only to later become a devout Catholic. Secondly, in his wandering through life, also intellectually – he publishes his best-known work, The Cherubinic Pilgrim, in the age of Christ and, like Bernard of Clairvaux, shows with his life a wandering through the land of unlikeness. Thirdly in understanding the essence of this wandering, showing that it is, after Master Eckhart, a wandering inward, because only there can God be found

    The aim of this article is to reinterpret the dichotomous depiction of the elemental forces of animality and plant life in the writings of Jakob Böhme. The analysis of the differing meanings that Böhme associates with these two domains of nature will be juxtaposed with contemporary dilemmas in the field of environmental ethics. This comparison serves to illustrate the aporias in human-nature relations that emerge even within a non-anthropocentric perspective. At the core of these tensions lies the contrast between the ideal of harmony and self-sufficiency attributed to plants and the resemblance between humans and animals in terms of their innate drives and sensuality. A crucial role in this examination is played by the category of the imaginary, which is directly linked to the concept of imagination in the strictly Böhmian sense

    Explaining the intuition that phenomenal consciousness is not a physical property is crucial in the debate on the nature of consciousness. There are two competing strategies of how to approach this issue in the literature. Some assume that the intuition of dualism is a psychological illusion, others treat this intuition as a genuine cognitive problem which is not the result of an error. This article indicates the reasons for which the proposed theories of both types are not satisfactory and in addition articulates a new argument for the claim that the intuition of dualism is a genuine epistemic problem. The source of the problem lies in the fact that psychophysical identities are not deducible from physical truths

    This article attempts to discuss the problem of immortality from two perspectives: that of the 19th-century Russian philosopher Nikolai Fyodorov and the 21st-century American billionaire Elon Musk. Both advocate achieving eternal life through technological progress, without the intervention of divine power. In the first part of the article, I present Fyodorov and those aspects of his thought that are directly related to the development of science. By presenting Musk, I examine how his actions correspond to his declarations, whether they are inspired by the literature he has read, and which of them align with Fyodorov’s postulates. I also consider the possible consequences of these chosen paths of development. I will also attempt to demonstrate that all of the billionaire’s actions are coherent. Finally, I will indicate the currently dominant approach to achieving immortality

    Among the painters associated with Silesia who were active at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, Eduard Klink (1869–1942), born in Babice near Głub­czyce, deserves particular attention. His artistic output has yet to be fully studied. Although this article focuses on the history of painted decoration in just three churches – St. Lawrence’s Church in Strzelce Opolskie, the Church of the Exal­tation of the Holy Cross in Tczew, and the Church of the Holy Trinity in Bogacica – these individual histories intersect to reveal a portrait of an artist who was both highly respected and deeply committed to his work. Drawing on archival sourc­es, the author also discusses the conditions under which church art developed in Silesia and Pomerania during the early decades of the 20th century
