Nie/mobilne dobra wspólne i trans/narodowe zgłaszanie roszczeń: fenomen szwedzkich Afgańczyków w Paryżu
Responding to asylum seekers’ relocation from Sweden to France, migrant solidarity groups have started to share resources and information relevant to the process of deciding about and going through with the journey, and, on arrival in Paris, providing advice on how to make it through sleeping rough and the asylum process in France. The relocation of Afghan asylum seekers to France, has gained a specific form of visibility and presence, in media and in migration rights networks, that we claim has placed the route on the Swedish landscape of migration and border debate. The purpose of this article is to develop the conceptual discussions of mobile commons through an analysis of the networks of and around ‘Swedish Afghans in Paris’. The article explores the ways in which national bordering scapes are both reinscribed, expanded and destabilized by migrant networks and claims. Further, we analyze the phenomenon of ‘Swedish Afghans in Paris’ with attention to the tensions and contradictions in regard to the politics of belonging and mobile commons. The phenomenon of Swedish Afghans in Paris forms a productive starting point for analyzing the conditions of commoning in the context of the Swedish bordering scape; of the ways in which belonging and nationality are claimed in complex and shifting ways; and of the ways in which these commons bridge different places transnationally. The article contributes to scholarly discussions on migrant struggles by developing a nuanced understanding of mobile commons as contestations and entanglements of bordering and claims to national belonging. Następnie analizujemy zjawisko „szwedzkich Afgańczyków w Paryżu” zwracając uwagę na napięcia i sprzeczności w odniesieniu do polityki przynależności i mobilnych dóbr wspólnych.
Polscy artyści i polskie wystawy w Bagdadzie w 1943 roku
The article sketches a panorama of the exhibition initiatives and presentations of the artwork of Polish artists-soldiers in Baghdad in 1943, which were organized by Jozef Jarema and Jozef Czapski within the framework of the Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade stationing in Egypt. The text also presents the achievements of the authors who, with General Wladysław Anders, escaped from Soviet captivity to Iran in 1942 – as soldiers of the Polish Army in the East (later the 2nd Corps). In particular, the exhibition initiatives and social activism of Jozef Jarema, reconstructed on the basis of archival sources (which the author of this text reached during his research in Rome in 2010–2012) and press publications in the years 1940–1950 (especially in the Arabic, English, French and Polish press – published in the Near and Middle East, and particularly in Egypt), show the creator of Krakow’s pre-war “Cricot 1” theater not only as an active painter, but above all as a leading community worker and an activist in the area of promoting Polish culture, who recognized the need to present Polish art even in the most culturally alien environments and difficult conditions of venues in the Near and Middle East and Africa
Potworowski i Poe zanurzeni w świecie umysłu
Searching for the sources of Tadeusz Piotr Potworowski’s artistic manner, and starting from the findings on the understanding of the grotesque and types of illustration, the author examines from this angle the graphic works from Potworowski’s portfolio of eight lithographs dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe (1934). Comparative analysis of the graphic works and their primary texts brings conclusions about intersemiotic poetics and the painter’s interest in the mind, its disorders and properties. It reveals Potworowski’s sensitivity to the word and confirms that familiarization with the American novelist’s short stories and the dedication of a series of his prints to them influenced the mental basis of Potworowski’s later achievements, and helped him shape his views on art and the mind. A reflection on the painter’s stories from the 1950s, conducted in terms of their relationship to artistic strategy, is left for further research
Kościół św. Barbary w Bytomiu jako bastion przeciwko polskości? Treści ideowe architektury świątyni w kontekście sytuacji Górnego Śląska po I wojnie światowej
Architecture has been a carrier of content for centuries, and the circumstances under which buildings were constructed have influenced their forms and charged them with ideological meanings. An example of such an object is the Church of St. Barbara in Bytom, built between 1928 and 1930 and designed by Arthur Kickton. Erected in what was then a German border town, facing the Polish border with its façade, it exemplifies so-called political architecture. The article presents the background to the creation of the temple and their influence on its shape, and tries to answer the question of whether it was indeed intended as a bastion against Polishness
Wybrane kody kulturowe w sprawozdaniach z podróży do wód akwizgrańskich Józefa Sapiehy oraz Ignacego Łopacińskiego w 1740 r.
In the present paper, the concept of cultural codes was employed for research on travels abroad of the elites of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In accordance with the assumptions of travel semiotics, the intellectual activity of travelers in the processes of knowing and describing the world constitutes a form of coding and deciphering meanings. Such understanding can be referred to both modern mass tourism and premodern types of travel (educational and curative travels or pilgrimages). The subject of this paper is the tourist-curative travel for the waters undertaken by the bishop of Vilnius (and simultaneously Grand Referendary of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania) Józef Stanisław Sapieha (1708–1754) and his companion, Ignacy Łopaciński. Sapieha authored a travel memoir, which is a part of his monumental manuscript autobiography. Łopaciński also prepared a rather detailed report from this journey for the waters to Bad Aachen in 1740. Due to the specificity of the titular peregrination, two spheres (cognitive and curative) and related cultural codes were analyzed deeper
Wrocławskie ordynacje dotyczące pomocy potrzebującym z lat 20. XVI w. a początki reformacji w mieście
Selected municipal ordinances issued in the 1520s by the town councillors of Wrocław concerned primarily the poor and the beggars. Analysis of their contents allowed for discerning what solutions were proposed by the secular authorities and how they evolved on the course of few years. The extent of correlation between selected documents and the ideas of Reformation was also emphasized
Zgrzyt, który przeradza się w działanie. O poszukiwaniu artystek, widoczności kobiet w akademii i dzieleniu się wiedzą
The article problematizes the artistic and archival activities of Iwona Demko, concerning the first female students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków. Recognizing her position in the Academia as a woman, the artist is aware of the difficulties that her predecessors may have experienced when wanting to study art at a time when only men were allowed to enter the academy. Bringing back to history the figures of forgotten first female students, Demko poses questions about the place of women in the history of art, the ways of constructing this discourse, but also about the image of the academy as an educational institution. While looking at these activities, I try to consider the ways of producing and sharing knowledge initiated by the artist.Artykuł problematyzuje działania artystyczno-archiwistyczne Iwony Demko dotyczące pierwszych studentek Akademii Sztuk Pięknych im. Jana Matejki w Krakowie.
Implozja „kawaii”. Serial „Paranoia Agent” Satoshiego Kona
The article presents the anime TV series Paranoia Agent by Satoshi Kon and its major themes: escapism, lack of communication and the guise of victimhood, which is as a method of denial meant to mute a conscience burdened by the horrors of World War II prevalent in contemporary Japanese society. Certain phenomena of Japanese consumer culture, such as fine goods, kawaii and character goods are also presented. These phenomena form an important cultural background for an analysis of Kon’s oeuvre, as the author uses them as lens through which he portrays the problems facing contemporary Japanese society — not least of all the ways in which it is influenced by the ubiquity of media. His insights are quite well grounded in reality, and his conclusions are rather bleak. Even the apocalyptic destruction of Tokyo cannot change ways of the Japanese people, who are thoroughly engulfed by non-communication and hyper-consumerism.The article presents the anime TV series Paranoia Agent by Satoshi Kon and its major themes: escapism, lack of communication and the guise of victimhood, which is as a method of denial meant to mute a conscience burdened by the horrors of World War II prevalent in contemporary Japanese society. Ml@h-methode in Nederlands-Poolse tweetalige opvoeding op een specifiek voorbeeld – een exploratieve case-study
The strategy of raising a bilingual child, also known as family language policy (FLP), has been the subject of linguistic, psychological or sociological research for many years. One way of raising bilinguals in a family environment is the minority language at home strategy (ml@h), which is often chosen by parents who live outside their home country and both speak a minority language. Parents speak to each other and to the child in their native language and the second language is acquired by the child in situations outside the home. In this article, I will present not only theoretical considerations of bilingual upbringing but also the perspective of a person who was raised bilingually (Dutch and Polish). Opinions and reflections gathered by an individual in-depth interview will provide a glimpse of growing up in a bilingual environment from the perspective of a now-adult child. In the case described, the strategy had a positive effect. This was influenced by the parents’ conscious choice of a bilingual upbringing strategy and its consistent application, supporting the child in learning the grammar and stylistics of the minority language and providing the child with contact with the minority language before going to school. The strategy of raising a bilingual child, also known as family language policy (FLP), has been the subject of linguistic, psychological or sociological research for many years.
