Upadek monarchii stanowej a powstanie państwa totalitarnego. Źródła antyrewolucyjnej refleksji francuskich liberałów

    No full text
In this article the authors explores a different perspective on Montesquieu, beyond his reputation as a champion of liberal democracy, by examining the historical and institutional roots of his ideas. Montesquieu’s concept—although considered a pillar of Western constitutional democracy— has evolved in ways that the author believes would likely surprise him, given that its current application does not align with his original intentions. The article traces how the destruction of the estate monarchy, which Montesquieu was critical of, was a key factor in the rise of totalitarian regimes in Europe. The end of the estate monarchy, which had effectively safeguarded against absolute monarchy, led to the eventual emergence of totalitarian systems. The text also highlights sources of liberal thought that countered despotism, authoritarianism, and totalitarianism, with references to thinkers such as Alexis de Tocqueville, Benjamin Constant, and Madame de Staël, who saw the French Revolution as laying the groundwork for the eventual rise of totalitarian regimes

    No full text
The paper aims at presenting the semantics of crisis elaborated by the critic of modern historical discourse, Reinhardt Koselleck, and at illustrating it on the example of the documentary Fuoccammare. Fire at Sea from 2016, directed by Gianfranco Rosi. The applicability of such a tool for the analysis and interpretation of various forms of author journalism (with an emphasis on documentary film and non-fiction writing), that deal with the topic of crisis in the broadest sense, will be highlighted and explained.

Danish as Second Foreign Language in German Studies: Chances and Perspectives

    No full text
The essay attempts to draw the reader’s attention to the parallel word formation patterns of German and Danish, which serve as a methodological basis in the teaching program of Danish as a second foreign language by students of German. At the same time, however, it also tries to point out the mostly known deviations of Danish morphology and syntax from German morphology and syntax, and thus also the uniqueness of Danish. A separate chapter also mentions phonology as the most difficult language subsystem of Danish for German and Slavic learners

Tajemnica ciszy. Próba zrozumienia zjawiska ciszy górskiej

    No full text
The Arctic expedition to Baffin Island provided the author with a profound experience of mountain silence. Initially, he experienced it as an uncomfortable absence of the noise of civilization and solitude. Over time, however, the silence brought harmonies and focus. The experience was the result of a process of adaptation and a search for connection with nature. Silence was described as a state of mind, not just an absence of sound, having a unique and personal character. For the author, silence became more valuable than climbing successes, providing deep happiness and fulfilment. The text explores the complexity and multidimensionality of this subjective experience

This paper examines a recent form of literary representation of troubled memory based on the aesthetics of fantasy and horror. Initially, I set the stage for the analysis by recapitulating different forms of remembering the traumatic past in Latin American literature. The second part of the article is devoted to a comparative study of the novel The Twilight Zone (2016) by the Chilean writer Nona Fernández and a short story by the Argentine writer Mariana Enríquez titled ‘Angelita Unearthed,’ from the collection of short stories The Dangers of Smoking in Bed (2009). Authors of the younger generation, in response to the criticism of the so-called testimonial literature, which until recently has been the dominant form of narrating the traumatic past, are reaching for new forms of expression, including fantasy and horror aesthetics. My research methodology focuses on the idea of the monster in its broadest sense. I examine how different variations of this classic motif, such as zombies or gremlins, are employed in the texts of the two authors. I also discuss the role of the Frankenstein metaphor in the novel The Twilight Zone and explore new — often metaphorical or allegorical — meanings of these terms in relation to socio-political issues. The article aims to demonstrate that the aesthetics of horror and fantasy become an alternative to realistic prose, offering a stronger expression of the trauma of dictatorship

Czym są podcasty fabularne. Charakterystyka medium i społeczności audiodramy „Camlann”

    No full text
The fiction podcast medium is steadily growing in popularity, with thousands of entries in dedicated apps and fan groups expanding over various social media platforms. This article offers a description of the general characteristics of audio dramas, therefore providing a baseline for further studies, and highlights the most important aspects of the medium. Primarily: fiction podcasts are distinctive in demonstrating inclusivity and maintaining creative freedom while remaining an immersive audio space. This realisation may bring researchers closer to understanding the reasons why people listen to fictional podcasts and help distinguish them as a discreet subcategory within a broader audio medium. In this paper, I also describe several ways in which podcast creators engage with their audiences, and, in turn, how listeners express their attachment to specific shows. Furthermore, by introducing and describing one of the communities based around the podcast Camlann, I outline how groups built around the fictional narrative podcasts function, and what social and emotional benefits their participants experience. The findings from a survey conducted on the livestream platform Twitch reveal that listening to streams has become a social practice and bonding experience for all involved —both the audience and the creators. Moreover, the article explores the reasons for participating and engaging in such practices, as well as characterises the forms of fan activity displayed by podcast listeners taking part in live online events

The volume under review explores the extensive epistolary legacy of Chopin. The monograph consists of 19 articles written by eminent researchers, experts, and interpreters of both Chopin’s biography and music. Each chapter it sure the inspire fruitful discussions. Four thematic sections can be distinguished. The first one focuses on issues that could be described using Agnieszka Markuszewska’s term as Chopin’s epistolary “self”-recognitions. It includes reflections on the self-creative art of letter-writing (treated on a par with literary creation), which co-creates an intimate autobiography. Another part of the volume is filled with impressions of selected topics, revealing in Chopin’s correspondence the nature of his relationships with his loved ones, as well as the characteristics of specific emotional components that make up the composer’s “psychological profile.” The next group of articles consists of a (long-awaited) insightful linguistic analysis of Chopin’s letters. The fourth perspective of this multifaceted monograph proved to be extremely inspiring. It concerns the strategy of using Chopin’s correspondence—both in biographical texts and in scientific reflection.Przedmiotem badań omawianego tomu jest obszerny materiał epistolograficznej spuścizny Fryderyka Chopina. Monografię współtworzy dziewiętnaście artykułów problemowych, autorstwa wybitnych badaczy, znawców i interpretatorów zarówno biografii, jak muzyki Chopina, a każdy rozdział prowokuje do twórczej dyskusji. Można w nim wyodrębnić cztery cząstki tematyczne. Pierwsza koncentruje się wokół problematyki, wobec której można by użyć określenia Agnieszki Markuszewskiej: Chopina „ja” epistolarne — rozpoznania.

Zagadnienie wrocławskich muzeów i ich zbiorów w przemowach delegatów Związku Muzeów w Polsce i przedstawicieli Ministerstwa Kultury i Sztuki w 1946 r.

The paper examines the situation of Wrocław’s museums and their collections in 1946 in the context of post-war political and administrative changes. As part of the so-called Recovered Territories, Wrocław underwent a process of museum reorganisation, discussed at the fora of the Museum Association in Poland and the Ministry of Culture and Art. The study outlines the history of Wrocław’s German museums before 1939, their fate during the World War II, and the post-war processes of restitution and redistribution of collections. In 1946, Polish museologists and government officials debated the future of museum policy in the newly integrated western and northern territories. Key proposals included the establishment of a central multi-departmental museum in Wrocław, the expansion of historical and ethnographic departments, and the incorporation of collections from Lviv. Speeches by Stanisław Lorentz, Witold Kieszkowski and other experts underscored the strategic importance of museums in the process of the Polonisation of Lower Silesia. The conclusions of these deliberations contributed to the establishment of the State Museum in Wrocław in 1947 and shaped the development of cultural policy in the People’s Republic of Poland
