„Bogiem ich jest brzuch”. Postulaty umiarkowania w jedzeniu w dietetyce pionierki adwentyzmu Ellen G. White

    No full text
The article presents a synthesis of religious faith and scientific knowledge in the nineteenth-century standard model of dietetics proposed by the co-creator of Adventism, Ellen G. White. The idea of intemperance, having both religious and cultural connotations, is one of the fundamental elements. For the authoress, temperance appears to be a guarantee of health, both physical, mental, emotional or spiritual, as well as moral. This picture is completely disparate with the diet of modern American society, which is subordinate to the guidelines of consumerism and capitalism rather than medical science or religious principles.

One of the main themes of the 2020 presidential election campaign in Poland turned out to be a dispute — defined by many people as ideological — over the shape of the Polish family, as well as the rights of LGBT+ persons. The aim of the article is to analyze the discourse of the right-wing, conservative Gazeta Polska Codziennie about members of the queer community, specifically in the period between February 5 and July 10, 2020. Using content analysis methods to outline the strategies of constructing the image of the LGBT+ community in the selected daily will not only allow a critical look at the events that took place in the past, but may also serve as a forecast of things that may happen during the parliamentary election campaign. It cannot be ruled out that in the Autumn, in the perspective of serious economic problems and the war in Ukraine, the indicated issues will again dominate the political narrative.

    No full text
The article focuses on Bronisław Rajchman’s little known accounts of trips across the Tatra Mountains, which originated in the second half of the 19th century and which are part of strictly defined Tatra tourism literature. Rajchman’s accounts are an important record of the phenomenon of “itinerary-less trips” organised by Tytus Chałubiński. Rajchman was their active witness and participant. In the second half of the 19th century Rajchman’s literary oeuvre, in the form of travelogues, made a significant contribution to the popularisation of Tatra tourism and, at the same time, enriched the Polish writings relating to the Tatra Mountains. In the article the author analyses Rajchman’s two most interesting pieces: “Wycieczka do Morskiego Oka przez przełęcz Mięguszowiecką” [A trip to Morskie Oko through the Mięguszowiecka Pass] (Ateneum, 1877) and “Wycieczka na Łomnicę odbyta pod wodzą dra T. Chałubińskiego” [A trip to Łomnica under the guidance of Dr T. Chałubiński] (1879) in the context of Chałubiński’s activity in Zakopane. The author pays particular attention to the exploratory and guiding aspects of Rajchman’s Tatra prose. The article focuses on Bronisław Rajchman’s little known accounts of trips across the Tatra Mountains, which originated in the second half of the 19th century and which are part of strictly defined Tatra tourism literature. „Człowiek gór” — od epickiej deskrypcji do ekspresji samoświadomości

The term ‘man of the mountains’ appears in various cultural discourses basically in two contexts, referring either to the situation of people born in the mountains, living near the mountains, and whose their daily lives are connected to the mountains, or to people fascinated by the mountains, for whom mountain peaks and their own attitude towards them are the subject of verbalised reflection, often of a philosophical, axiological, and aesthetic nature. In the first case, one simply is a man of the mountains (permanently, due to the circumstances), while in the second case, one becomes such person, more or less consciously striving to achieve this status. The first situation is exemplified by literary works and various descriptions of journeys in which a highlander is treated as an integral, natural component of the landscape being described (such an image can be found in Stanisław Witkiewicz’s most famous work, Na przełęczy [On the Mountain Pass]). The second and chronologically later situation, on the other hand, is exemplified by specific testimonies of representatives of the mountaineering community. They function in the form of own literary works (written by, among others, Reinhold Messner, Jernej (Nejc) Zaplotnik, Denis Urubko, Jerzy Kukuczka, and Marek Raganowicz) or in the form of interviews with famous climbers, which are very popular among readers interested in mountain-related issues (an interesting example of this is the book Rozmowy o Evereście [Talking about Everest], in which Jacek Żakowski interviews Krzysztof Wielicki and Leszek Cichy). These books include various themes and reflections, often of a personal nature. The authors often do not limit themselves to presenting their own achievements in the field of extreme Alpine and Himalayan mountaineering but also highlight the specific process of inner growth of the climber, their discovery of mountain secrets, their own place in the world, and their knowledge of themselves and their abilities and limitations. These reflections also often reveal the symbolic meanings of mountain climbing, which may turn out to be a metaphor for human existence. Koncepcja systematyczności nauki Paula Hoyningena-Huene a psychologiczny kryzys teoretyczny

The purpose of this paper is to address the problem of the theoretical crisis in psychology from the perspective of the concept of systematicity of science proposed by German philosopher Paul Hoyningen-Huene. In the first part, I analyse the main assumptions of the idea of systematicity and outline the problem of theoretical crisis in psychology. According to the assumptions, the crisis in psychology may be related to problems with systematicity in some dimensions of psychology. Finally, I consider whether in psychology, basing explanations on the mechanistic strategy of explanation, which is an increasingly popular strategy in the philosophy of social sciences, could strengthen the systematic nature of psychology in the indicated dimensions. The purpose of this paper is to address the problem of the theoretical crisis in psychology from the perspective of the concept of systematicity of science proposed by German philosopher Paul Hoyningen-Huene. The design thinking method as an example of social innovation in action based on the case study of ProPoLab

    No full text
The aim of the paper is to explain and to understand the processes of public services delivery from the perspective of social innovation. Concepts of co-creation and social innovation were elaborated on the basis of one of ProPoLab’s milestones: Design Thinking Workshops. Hence the research object are the residents (mostly seniors) of the district of Popowice, while the quality of life of seniors is its subject. The main research goals were firstly to identify needs of residents in relations to public services, and secondly to design a socially innovative solution that will increase the quality of life of seniors. To achieve these goals, the following research tasks have been set: (a) identifying the needs of seniors, (b) identifying which of those needs are being met locally and which are not, (c) to identify what are the relations between neighbors and the attitude towards cooperation, (d) identifying how the needs of seniors could be met. The research mainly covers the period of 2018–2019. Following research methods have been used: analysis of scientific literature and normative documents, design thinking methodology, comparative analysis and statistical analysis. Utilizing design thinking methodology helped to reveal that the problem of communication between residents can be solved by creating a small, accessibly located community/activity center in their housing estate. This place should meet the needs of activity and self-fulfillment, exchange of information and intergenerational exchange. Time availability is very important, and the space intended for seniors should function in an hourly timeframe similar to daycare centers. Residents should be included in drafting a program to better identify and respond to their needs. Seniors would likely be happy to provide volunteer work in such a place. The facility should be located in the middle of the housing estate so that all residents have easy access to it, optimally in pleasant natural surroundings (i.e. near vegatation), as well as in close proximity to playgrounds for children

Walka ze stereotypem roli kobiety w kinie współczesnym

The aim of the article is to review contemporary films portraying women and to consider what problems female characters face and how they are presented. A significant part of the analysis is focused on portrayals of the struggle against the stereotypes to which the protagonists are subject — and assessing how much film has changed in that regard over the years, both diegetically and extra-diegetically. The article also looks into the form of selected (color) films, the images of marriage and motherhood, as well as the search for clues in youth cinema

Rodzicielstwo w postaci „maternal gatekeeping”. Analiza zjawiska

    No full text
Even recent past reveals that mothers are assigned the role of the first, primary caretaker. Nowadays, both parents are expected to participate equally in the matters related to their child. Do mothers give up easily the field that so far has been their domain and perpetuated the ‘old’ social order? The clash between the old approach to parental roles and the new expectations addressed mainly to fathers does not always result in the transition to common and equal participation of the mother and father in the implementation of their parental roles. Behaviors referred to as maternal gatekeeping are of a complex nature. Researchers are trying to understand what determines the willingness of mothers to encourage the fathers in or discourage from engaging in childcare and responsibility for matters related to it. The conducted analysis of the phenomenon is based on theoretical considerations and empirical investigations of researchers who, apart from indicating the disadvantages of maternal gatekeeping, also point to specific family situations justifying this type of behavior.

The article traces the development of academic Jewish studies in Wrocław from their modest beginnings after the Holocaust, through a renaissance of academic interests in the 1980s, and culminating in the creation of the Department of Jewish Studies at the University of Wrocław. As we demonstrate, the main areas of scholarly interest among the faculty members of the Department are the history of Hasidism, modern Yiddish culture, and the socio-political history of Polish Jews in the 20th century, which, as we argue, closely correspond with major methodological and cultural developments in global humanities
