Sierpniowe dni Stoczni Gdańskiej im. Lenina w świetle ulotek Międzyzakładowego Komitetu Strajkowego w Gdańsku
The article presents research conducted on leaflets produced at the Gdańsk Shipyard during the August 1980 strike by the Interfactory Strike Committee in Gdańsk. The period during which the materials were created was pivotal. Due to government-imposed meat and sausage price hikes in the summer of 1980, strikes erupted in Poland, leading to the formation of the Independent Self-governing Trade Union “Solidarity” (NSZZ “Solidarność”). Announcements and statements issued and circulated in the form of small-sized eaflets taking various forms played a significant role in the communication issued from the Interfactory Strike Committee to the strikers and their supporters. Many of them are now stored in the Historical Archive of the National Commission of NSZZ “Solidarność.” When properly organized, they form a kind of chronicle of August ’80. The leaflets distributed during the August strike provided information on the key demands of the striking workers from various workplaces represented by the Interfactory Strike Committee, the necessity of continuing the strike, and contacts with the Government Commission. W przekazie Międzyzakładowego Komitetu Strajkowego do osób strajkujących oraz popierających strajk istotną rolę pełniły komunikaty i oświadczenia wydawane i kolportowane w postaci niewielkich rozmiarów druków ulotnych przybierających różnorakie formy.
References to the political situation in Poland appeared in printed dedications contained in books published in the nineteenth century. In this way, successive independence uprisings were remembered and their participants and conspiracies against the invaders commemorated. Many books with such dedications appeared in the works of writers in exile, who were forced to leave Poland because of their political activity. Particularly interesting are the dedications which recall the names of less well-known people, about whom historical studies and biographical dictionaries have no information. It should also be noted that the references in question affirm the relationship between the book and the culture of the era in which it appeared.Patriotyzm rozumiany jako walka o wolność ojczyzny. Academic library science and its contribution to the development of bibliology and information science in Poland, 1945–2015
The aim of the study is to present the origins and development of academic institutions educat- ing librarians in Poland between 1945 and 2015, taking into account the institutional and scholarly aspects. In the first part of the paper the author presents the history of various institutions — university faculties, departments and institutes — arranged diachronically in three stages (1945–1974, 1975–1989, 1990–2015). She takes into account the circumstances of their establishment (including the legal framework), their organisers, staff, organisational structures and their changes. In addition, she points to other components of academic life influencing the work of academic library science centres, such as conferences and journals. In the second part, devoted to a discussion of bibliological and information-science research conducted at Polish universities, the author focuses on various issues, treating chronology only as an element organising descriptions of research processes at individual library studies centres. She identifies the areas of research, as well as changes in the thematic foci in the analysed period, citing selected scholars and their most important works. Like in part one, she also discusses the social, political and cultural determinants stimulating research processes, paying particular attention to the impact of new technologies and media. The author’s overview confirms the huge role the academic institutions engaged in library studies play in the consolidation of the position of bibliology as an academic discipline, but at the same time, she shows how the research profile of book studies has been changing in recent years, including issues associated with information science and new technologies. The aim of the study is to present the origins and development of academic institutions educat- ing librarians in Poland between 1945 and 2015, taking into account the institutional and scholarly aspects. W służbie ideologii. Centralny zakup czasopism i zalecenia dotyczące prenumeraty dla szkół w Polsce w latach pięćdziesiątych XX wieku
After World War II, the educational authorities had a significant influence on what was to be held by school libraries. The Ministry of Education published lists of books of enduring literary, cognitive and educational value, qualified for primary school libraries. Since 1945 they essentially helped schools properly manage the modest subsidies they received, which — other urgent needs aside — were to cover the costs related to amassing and completing their library collections. The aforementioned lists were also to help librarians in the ‘planned’ compilation of collections in accordance with official recommendations and to facilitate the ‘management’ of reading among children and young adults. They were to be used by publishers and booksellers in shaping publis- hing policy. Some of the recommended titles, especially just after the war, reached schools through the centralised purchasing system. The centralised purchasing of magazines for school libraries at all school levels and for teachers’ collections is a lesser known fact. It clearly shows how the authorities exercised political influence on society through schools after 1949. School libraries and common rooms were supplied with periodicals for students and teachers from the centrally prepared distribution list and orders and recommendations were given to subscribe to magazines of a clear ‘ideological and educational’ nature, including Soviet ones. This article describes the most important stages in the centralisation and ideologisation of amassing and using magazines at schools, which depended on the political situation in Poland. The basic source materials are the journals of the Ministry of Education, which contain a complete set of executive legal acts applying to schools of all types and levels.Indoktrynacja w szkole po II wojnie światowej. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine on tourism economy development in Cyprus and Croatia
In the years 2020–2021, the global tourism economy faced a huge crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its particular waves. The year 2022 was supposed to be the beginning of the reconstruction of the inbound tourism sector in the world. However, for Cyprus and Croatia, the events of February 24, 2022, called into question the continued functioning of a large part of the inbound tourism sector. The aim of this article is to answer the question: what was the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the size and structure of foreign inbound tourism to Cyprus and Croatia? The second aim of the article is to answer the question: what is the expected impact of the war in Ukraine on the tourism sector of the Cypriot and Croatian economies? The methods used in the article were: the analysis of statistical data and the analysis of literature. In the years 2020–2021, the global tourism economy faced a huge crisis related to the COVID-19 pandemic and its particular waves. Risk management in diffused structures: Analysis for Shared Services Centers
Research background: Shared Services Centers (SSCs) are often a spin-off of corporate services to separate all operational tasks from the corporate headquarters. The primary focus of the headquarters should be on leadership and corporate governance. However, many SSCs have also been given some corporate functions. Risk management is a significant part of governance and one of its principles. The effectiveness of risk management depends on its integration into the organization’s governance, including decision-making. The question is how a modern SSC manages this part of governance.
Purpose: This study aims to present the conditions that prove the implementation of risk management in SSCs and to evaluate the most effective risk management model.
Research methodology: Targeted literature review followed by surveys and a case study.
Results: The risk management process consists of several stages that are repeated in many models (identification and risk assessment, risk management model selection, and monitoring). Thus, it is possible to use each model in the SSC concerning the migrated processes, considering the limitations of the strategic goals definition. However, not all methods will find a potential application in risk management in the SSC, considering the most effective risk assessment.
Novelty: While the literature provides models that can be of use, a lack of specific guidelines has been recognized, especially regarding the risk management aspect in SSCs. In the last decade, the focus was on the expected benefits coming from standardization, ignoring the new risks in SSC processes.Research background: Shared Services Centers (SSCs) are often a spin-off of corporate services to separate all operational tasks from the corporate headquarters. Wpływ konkordatu między Stolicą Apostolską a Rzecząpospolitą Polską z 1993 roku na nowelizację Kodeksu rodzinnego i opiekuńczego z 1964 roku
This article on the influence of the 1993 Concordat on the amendment of the Family and Guardianship Law of 1964 at the end of the 1990s is intended to demonstrate that this influence was significant in terms of the institution of marriage and the institution of separation.
The possibility for a marriage entered under the internal law of a church or other religious association to obtain civil law effects is a significant and socially expected change. Undoubtedly, the signing of the Concordat made it much easier for people who wanted to give this institution both a secular and a religious dimension to get married.
On the other hand, the institution of separation of spouses in Polish and canon law, despite the apparent similarity in its essence, is characterized by significant differences in both legal systems. Polish law does not indicate the specific reasons for the separation, focusing only on the complete breakdown of the marriage, while canon law does not treat the complete breakdown of the partnership as a sine qua non condition, but pays attention to the primary causes of this breakdown.
In Polish law, separation is not intended to permanently separate the spouses, but is a space for reflection and reflection on continuing in marriage. In canon law, it is mainly intended to protect the innocent party and children and allows separation from an adulterous spouse. However, when circumstances improve, or forgiveness simply ceases
Lewicowa krytyka literacka dwudziestolecia a wizje uspołecznienia literatury. Casus Baczyńskiego, Fika i Stawara
This text is an attempt to identify the literary worldview of left-wing criticism of the Interwar Period in Poland on the example of the works of Stanisław Baczyński, Ignacy Fik and Andrzej Stawar. Based on Marxist categories derived from the language of this formation and using the tools proposed by Pierre Bourdieu, the author attempts, following the analysed authors, to deconstruct the mechanisms operating in the field of literary production that block the possibility of revolutionising the field and including culturally subordinated strata in it. This is done by distinguishing and analysing six key categories that play a key role in this process. These are, in turn: 1) education and cultural competence; 2) the autonomy of the creative process and the literary work; 3) aesthetic categories; 4) the literary canon; 5) the creator and the audience; and 6) literature as a space of power.
Greta Thunberg’s Life-Writing on Facebook: A Quantitative Analysis
Greta Thunberg is an iconic figure, whose engagement in the issues of the environment and climate change has made her a household name (Molder et al. 668). Another factor that contributes to her recognizability by millions of people globally involves her active online presence on social networking sites (SNSs), which she utilizes to communicate her views on climate changeand environment-related issues (Bergmann and Ossewaarde 267). The article presents a quantitative study on Greta Thunberg’s status updates on Facebook, which are problematized as instances of life-writing in digital personhood, which involves an online diary afforded by SNSs in general and Facebook in particular (Ortiz-Vilarelle 9). The study aimed at collecting a corpus of Thunberg’s Facebook status updates and analysing them quantitatively in order to establish frequently recurring lexical patterns, which shed light onto her preferred ways of construing climate change- and environment-related discourse. The corpus analysis, which was executed in the software program AntConc, revealed that Thunberg’s life-writing on Facebook was characterized by such frequently occurring lexical items, as self-mentions (e.g., we) and the words climate and strike. The findings were further discussed in detail in the article
