Traduire dans un système autoritaire en temps de crise : les représentations des événements polonais de 1980–1981 dans la presse officielle polonaise à destination des lecteurs occidentaux
The aim of this paper is to study the modes of representation of reality in original texts and their translations published under the constraints of an authoritarian regime in times of crisis. The study was based on the presupposition that the description of reality is filtered through the idiosyncrasies of the authors of the original texts and their translations, as well as through the constraints of the source system at a particular moment in its history. The nature of the shifts in representations of reality was tested on the example of sixteen issues of the magazine Polska and their English (Poland) and French (La Pologne) translations, reporting on the Polish events of 1980–1981. The study showed that the three language versions of the magazine Polska, which were supposed to be identical, represented reality in slightly different ways and that these representations were the result of several superimposed subjective visions of their authors, conditioned by various factors such as the speed of change, the lack of temporal distance, the individual attitude to events or the translator’s competence
Деконструкция ритуальных высказываний российского политического дискурса в интернет-пародиях
The article highlights the phenomenon of deconstruction of political discourse in contemporary audiovisual parodies. Its primary objective is to identify and analyze the techniques used by parodists to deconstruct selected linguistic means that build ritual utterances that make up political discourse. The research material consists of Russian-language audiovisual parody works published on YouTube. The research process consists in revealing the intertextual connections between the original utterances of Russian politicians and the texts of the parodies, determining the features of the political discourse that are subject to parodic revision, analyzing the techniques of modifying the given features and defining the functions of the analysed transformations. The study indicates the way in which parodies reveal the ideas hidden behind the verbal layer of political utterances and contribute to constructing political criticism.Artykuł dotyczy zjawiska dekonstrukcji rosyjskiego dyskursu politycznego we współczesnych parodiach audiowizualnych. Podstawowym celem tekstu jest identyfikacja i analiza technik stosowanych przez parodystów w celu dekonstrukcji wybranych środków językowych wykorzystywanych w wypowiedziach rytualnych pochodzących z rosyjskiego dyskursu politycznego. Za materiał posłużyły rosyjskojęzyczne audiowizualne utwory parodystyczne publikowane na YouTube. Badanie polega na wyjawieniu intertekstualnych powiązań pomiędzy oryginalnymi wypowiedziami rosyjskich polityków i tekstami parodystycznymi, określeniu cech dyskursu politycznego poddanych parodii, analizie technik modyfikacji i określeniu funkcji tych transformacji. Artykuł obrazuje sposób, w jaki parodie odzwierciedlają idee ukryte pod warstwą werbalną wypowiedzi, uczestnicząc w konstruowaniu krytyki politycznej.
Specialized dictionary, author dictionary and dictionary hybrid. On a problem of specialized lexicography
Specialized lexicography is an important and dynamically developing branch of lexicography today, and specialized dictionaries are frequently used reference works. Generally speaking, specialised dictionary users form a heterogeneous group–ranging from experts to semi-experts and laypersons. Since every dictionary should meet the needs of its users, a more precise definition of the target group is an important stage in dictionary planning. The situation becomes more complex when a dictionary is a hybrid, which is shown in the article using the example of the ‘Dictionary of Lexicography and Dictionary Research’ (2010–2020), which has the characteristics of both an ordinary specialized dictionary and a specialized author dictionary. An examination of this dictionary from the user’s perspective leads to more general conclusions relevant to specialized lexicography. Even an analysis of the lemma list provides information on whether a specialized dictionary hybrid is useful for all targeted user groups. This is the case if entries that can be assigned to the author dictionary and entries that can be assigned to the specialized dictionary correspond approximately to the same needs and subject-specific competences of the users. A large discrepancy in this respect leads to the utilisation value of the reference work being impaired. It must therefore be considered for each dictionary that has characteristics of two or more dictionary types whether this combination represents added value in terms of user needs
Zmiany klimatu i polityka klimatyczna. Analiza najczęściej udostępnianych newsów telewizyjnych stacji globalnych w przestrzeni mediów społecznościowych
Climate change is a fact. Negative processes are progressing, and experts point to solutions that can reduce the future effects of years of neglect. The problem is global, but not all political actors approach climate policy similarly. After the Donald Trump administration’s spectacular and unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Paris Agreement, the importance of the long-standing international compromise has diminished. This paper offers an analysis of media reports from 2017–2019 on climate change and climate policy. The study encompasses content from seven global television stations shared from their websites on social media. The author focuses on Facebook as the largest distribution channel for traditional media material in the analysis. The results show that the issue of climate change was one of the most frequently communicated information, but it was not the main topic. Pieces of news content published on the websites of the BBC and CNN were shared most widely. Global warming, the consequences of Donald Trump’s actions, melting glaciers in the Arctic, and greenhouse gas emissions were some of the major issues covered
(De)kodowanie polityki i jej (de)polaryzacja
The article examines how humans navigate simplified cognitive schemas and stereotypes, aiding quick decision-making but limiting thorough analysis. Cognitive heuristics exemplify such strategies. The work emphasizes that politics is dynamic, shaped by historical, social, and economic processes, often misunderstood as static by traditional political science. Politics occurs within individuals’ minds as they decode stimuli from their environment, influenced by social contexts and individual experiences. Enactivism highlights political cognition’s embodied subjective nature, challenging efforts to depolarize political landscapes through uniform cognitive frameworks
Wyścig zbrojeń czy bezpieczeństwo cywilizacji
The pressure of current problems, such as migration, local conflicts and wars, arms race, debt, economic growth combined with mass consumption — obscure the main challenge for politicians. This is, firstly, replacing national particularisms with a planetary perspective. And secondly, a slowdown in economic growth (as measured by GDP). This is an analogous path that the mosaic of post-feudal societies previously followed in the second half of the 19th century — professional, class, regional, and national awareness must be enriched with integration at the level of counteracting the planetary crisis. Without overcoming nationalism, with its xenophobia, worship of mystified traditions, as well as eliminating development disproportions between regions of the world, the security of civilization will not be possible
Polityka i media w krajach regionu bałkańskiego: dynamika zmian systemów medialnych
The new post-Yugoslav countries had to build their own independent statehood. Only Slovenia passed the democratization phase relatively easily, but the remaining five countries went through a dramatic war. There are currently visible differences between democratic standards in the region. Eight countries are classified as flawed democracies. Only Bosnia and Herzegovina is classified as a hybrid regime. A negative process was noted in Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. In recent years North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro have changed noticeably. The situation is worse in Albania, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Media systems in the region are still characterized by high dynamics and unpredictability
Kresy na wystawie filmowej. Projekt ekspozycji „Bliskie Kresy” w Baszni Górnej
The article presents a narrative multimedia film exhibition on the history of the Eastern Borderlands. Titled “Bliskie Kresy” (“Close Borderlands”), the show is developed at the Osada Kresowa (Borderland Settlement) entertainment-hotel-and-conference centre in Basznia Górna. The article looks at the exhibition project through the museum-studies lens geared to examining narrative and film exhibitions. The argument presents the script and the major ideas of the show, whose general tenor and narrative model are derived from film museology and multimedia exhibitions. As a result, the legacies of the Eastern Borderlands, film and modern narrative exhibition practice come together in one locus: the “Bliskie Kresy” project
Hagiografia, heraldyka, ideologia. Obrazy Johanna Jacoba Eybelwiesera młodszego dla klasztoru Franciszkanów Reformatów we Wrocławiu i ich fundatorzy
This article analyzes paintings by the Wrocław painter Johann Jacob Eybelwieser the Younger (1667–1744) for the cloisters of the former Reformed Franciscan monastery in Wrocław. Only five of the original series of 22 oil paintings on canvas depicting scenes from the life of St. Anthony of Padua have been preserved. Today they embellish the interior of the parish church of St. Anthony of Padua in Wrocław-Karłowice. Among them are: Presentation of St. Anthony, St. Anthony’s Sermon on the Rain, Resurrection of the Dead, Confession of St. Anthony and Sermon of St. Anthony. The paintings feature the coats of arms and initials of the funders. Their exact identification is possible thanks to the monastery chronicle written in 1750–1756, deposited in the National Archives in Prague. It records that between 1719 and 1722, the friars received donations from 21 contributors to fund the creation of the cycle. Reading their names leaves no doubt that these were the most prominent representatives of the official elite, holding leading positions in the structures of the imperial administration, and in particular in its two most important institutions in Silesia – the Superior Office and the Silesian Royal Chamber. Therefore, the overarching aim of this article is to revisit the chronicle’s records of the cycle’s funding, to identify the donors, and to describe the surviving paintings, defining their ideological program, function, and purpose
