Wiedza niemożliwa do zignorowania. O procesach konstruowania rzeczywistości w raporcie „FutureBrand Index 2023”
The article aims to explore various aspects of expert knowledge production. Firstly, it examines the interplay between contemporary capitalism and the activities of the global expert community, highlighting how the future serves as a reference point for professionals in the field of brand management. The second issue addressed in the text is how consulting companies, among others, create conditions for global competition by assessing the value, strength, or equity of brands. Lastly, the article delves into the role of reports presenting research in this domain, using the FutureBrand Index 2023 report as an exemplary illustration.
„Different place, different rules”. Inny świat w komunikacji marki PlayStation
The article discusses specific ways in which reality is constructed in the advertising communication of the Sony PlayStation brand, as well as the attributes of the model user of this reality. The starting point is the characterization of PlayStation’s vision of the world as different and better than everyday reality and the escapist motivation that potentially makes people want to experience this world. Next, the two different visions of the PlayStation user that the brand postulates in its communications are presented and nuanced: the empowered individual and the dominated individual. The final section of the article links the themes used in the analysed advertisements to the problems of everyday reality to which the brand may be trying to provide an answer, as well as to interpretatively related concepts from the social sciences and psychology domains.
Z al-Kufa do al-Samarqand, z al-Samarqand do Stambułu: Adab al-Bahs ła al-Munazara
The chapter seeks to provide a road map of the historical journey of the science of Adab al-bahsa ła al-munazara (the science/art of investigation and debate). It has not attempted to identify all the various paths and crossroads of this journey, as it would have stretched the limits of this study too much. The focus was mainly on the Hanafi tradition. Even within this tradition, however, we did not have the opportunity to present all the directions and orientation points on the “Adab map”. We try to show, nevertheless, that if the route/road we have sketched is followed, then enough knowledge about the fundamental components of the science of debate/argumentation could be obtained. We hope, at the same time, that our study can serve as a guide to more exhaustive research on this subject. Undoubtedly, the road from Kufa to Samarkand described in the first, the largest part of the chapter is quite complex and challenging. Everything on the road seems to be still in the process of formation where not all patterns and principles have been fully revealed yet. The road from Kufa to Istanbul presented briefly at the end of the chapter contains probably less unexpected and challenging twists and turns than the previous one, but it is still far from being a simple, straight, and direct line connecting the starting point and the destination. As soon as we enter the Anatolian territory, via Tabriz, we encounter new texts and discourses of the science of debate. Moreover, the commentaries, glosses and taliqs (supercommentaries) produced on this land, have become, so to speak, the main record book and the general manual of the science of debate in every aspect
Percepcja teologiczno-religijnych struktur wyznaniowych a naturalna kreatywna dyspozycja człowieka: perspektywa islamu
The Muslim tradition brought secondary and sectarian literature on upfront and made its followers paralyzed by the confines of theological structures deactivating any human potentials bestowed upon them. Any attempt for aesthetic and artistic creativity expressing human emotional capacity could be easily condemned and banned for being against the Sharia law. Thus, human life becomes a subject of thorough surveillance under the light of sectarian, secondary and tertiary, narratives. This dilemma creates a conflict between the dynamic human powers of creativity and historically accumulated mindsets. This paper aims at investigating instances of this tension and finding some alternative responses to the problems it poses
Был ли Словацкий армянином?
Juliusz Słowacki (1809–1849) was a great Polish poet and playwright. He lived and created in the era of Romanticism. Many researchers of his life and work claim that he had Armenian ancestors and some believe he was an Armenian. The poet never said that he was of Armenian descent. The author of the article tries to explain why this is so and what are the consequences for Polish and Armenian culture.
The importance of current megatrends and trends in the opinion of X and Z generations
Contemporary changes in the world can be described by looking for similarities in phenomena occurring in different places. Currently, such megatrends include, among others: Demographic Shifts, Multipolarization of the World, Symbiocene, Bioera, and Mirror World. They are strongly related to technological progress, digitalization, and changes in societies. The aim of this article is to answer the question of whether the development trends are perceived as equally important by representatives of generations X and Z. Their attitude will be related to the willingness to accept the anticipated and already occurring changes. The research was conducted in 2023 on a sample of 500 people from generations X and Z. It was found that regardless of their generation, the respondents considered all megatrends current and important. They rated the importance of the Mirror World megatrend as the lowest, which means they are skeptical about the rapid domination of relationships by those taking place mainly on the Internet. The trends perceived as important included Mental Well-Being, Loneliness, Depopulation, and Roboticized Life, while the following were considered less important: Deglobalization, Medicine Resistance, Nation-State Collapse, and Identity Nomads. By comparing the assessments of trends by the representatives of the X and Z generations, it was found that the importance of each of the examined trends was assessed higher by younger people from Generation Z. For the most current trends, the differences in the assessments are statistically significant
Laboratoria imersyjne jako utopie „work in progress”
This article discusses the emergence of relational aesthetics, the idea of the laboratory, and the concept of “micro-utopia” related to so-called “immersive installations”. The author attempts to describe selected concepts crystallized in the context of new media arts to unveil the dilemmas of contemporary audiovisual exhibitions “immersing” the viewer in a space to stimulate an interaction and the reanimation of images or sounds. This brief outline demonstrates the transformations and conceptualization of the “laboratory” model perceived in the prism of Nicholas Bourriaud’s concept of “relational aesthetics”, characterized by open-endness, interactivity, resistance to closure, work-in-progress form, and laboratory specificity. In discussing the moving image aesthetics, often associated with the transformations of illusion our wish is to focus on the transdisciplinary and dialogic entanglements of the new media arts in-between the user, audiovisual image and arrangement in space. The focal point of my considerations is the convergence of new and old media used to interpret the art of moving images in the context of transmedia means of expression and dynamic exhibition arrangements. This perspective, inspired by the findings of Bruno Latour, attempts to re-draw the boundaries of the image in the footsteps of Nicholas Bourriaud and enrich the aesthetic landscape with new means of expression
Interplay of art and faith in women’s communities: Developing a heightened awareness of research perspectives and evolving methodologies
The Lost and Found: Revising Art Stories in Search of Potential Changes marked the inaugural conference of a collaborative initiative between the University of Wroclaw, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and the Polish Institute for World Art Studies in Warsaw. This unique meeting brought together university researchers and artists, creating a stimulating atmosphere. The collaborative artistic endeavours undertaken aimed to build community and explore alternative knowledge production rooted in affectivity and openness to surprise, rather than an immediate quest for success. The focus was on a shared experience of being together and learning about each other’s roles beyond the conventional boundaries of scholars and artists. At the heart of the conference was the project Residua of Pre-Modern Relations with Art in Selected Contemporary Convents in Lesser Poland and Lower Silesia, supported by the National Science Centre in Warsaw. Although the residues and anachronisms discussed during the meeting did not explicitly refer to religious orders, they provided insights into the significance of faith and the evolving nature of the sacred in contemporary art. The project’s premise challenged the distinction between the religious and the spiritual, emphasizing the roles of community, respect, and care. It was hypothesized that female religious orders maintain these values in relation to the place of art in everyday life. Consequently, if an art historian wishes to study the relationship between women’s art and the sacred in everyday life, they should learn from nuns and female artists, not merely study them
Niemcza (1017) – Budziszyn (1918). Czy historia pisze zwycięzców? (W kręgu przekazu Thietmara z Merseburga)
The article concerns the shaping of the narrative of Thietmar of Merseburg about the third war between Henry II and Bolesław the Brave (1015–1018), which ended with the Peace of Bautzen. In the description of the culmination of the conflict (the siege of Niemcza in 1017), the moral and theological interpretation of events draws the attention. Thietmar did not conceal his admiration for the defenders of the castle, emphasizing their Christian attitude. In this context, it is surprising that the chronicler called the participants of the expedition victorious and therefore he is sometimes accused of propaganda. Whereas it is more about an assessment of the effects of the war. The description of the events demonstrates that both parties could declare a victory: Henry, because he had got Bolesław’s request for peace, and Bolesław, because he had avoided appearing before Henry II
Wydarzenia we Wrocławiu w 1418 r. jako wstęp do wybuchu wojen husyckich
Hussitism was a movement indigenously Czech, with great specificity and political European connections. In the 15th century Silesia was a part of the Bohemian Crown and Wrocław, at the turn of the Middle Ages and Early Modern Period, was regarded as the second political center in the Bohemian state after Prague. The events that took place in 1418 are known to us in general terms and we even have at our disposal many details from which we can conclude that they were undoubtedly a manifestation of social conflicts and clashing interests of various groups of inhabitants, revealed in the internal life of the medieval city.
