Śląsk jako teren wojenny na przestrzeni dziejów
The location of Silesia and Lusatia in Central Europe, their geographical conditions, the network of transport routes, as well as the geopolitical and military situation, determined the concepts for the use of the Silesian-Lusatian region for military operations as early as in the 14th century. Situated in the Baltic-Adriatic Corridor, it was used as a base for military activities both on the north-south axis, as well as in the north-east direction (against Wielkopolska and Poland) and in the west direction (towards Berlin and Dresden). It was not until the second half of the 20th century that Silesia became a rear area and hopefully it will not be used in that role

Mikrohistoria znikania. Stosunek Żydów mieszkających w Dzierżoniowe i okolicach do Polski w latach 1967–1968
The article presents the fate of the Jewish population settled in Lower Silesia, Poland, during the anti-Semitic campaign of 1967–1968, focusing on two towns: Dzierżoniów and Bielawa. Through an analysis of archival sources, the text reconstructs the fate of individual members of this community, including its leaders, beginning in 1967 (during the Six-Day War) and continuing through the following months, till the events of March 1968. The paper takes a special interest in the attitudes of Jews towards Poland, as well as in the government anti-Semitic campaign and accusations of disloyalty to Poland. It also presents the experiences of hostility, as well as the consequences of stigmatization by anti-Semitism. The analysis exemplifies the impact of the anti-Semitic campaign on a small, provincial Jewish community, living far from Warsaw and the student protests in 1968 or the centre of communist authority

Sekularyzacja klasztorów klarysek we Wrocławiu i w Głogowie oraz powiązane z nią losy urszulanek z Wrocławia i ze Świdnicy w świetle „Akt Büschinga”
This paper is a source edition of documents concerning the dissolution of the Poor Clares convents in Wrocław and Głogów, appropriated by the Prussian state under the secularisation edict of 1810. In those documents, the Ursuline convents in Wrocław and Świdnica are frequently mentioned because the fates of both nunneries were intertwined as a result of the dissolution in 1810. The source edition is preceded with a historical commentary explaining the character of the sources and briefly describing their contents. The files contain primarily information on the course of the dissolution process, while mentioning also contents of convent libraries – valuable manuscripts and music documentation, as well as works of art, particularly paintings, and handicraft (i.a., stamp seals). The most precious elements of the convents’ posessions were included into the library collection of the former university in Wrocław. In this paper, isolated examples of works of art preserved until the present day and stored in public collections were provided
Teaching Quantitative Data Analysis with GNU PSPP: A Cognitive Apprenticeship Approach
The ability to analyse quantitative data using software is of great importance but represents a substantial challenge for many in the applied linguists’ community. One way to support them in this challenge is to provide inexperienced analysts with appropriate training. Accordingly, this methods tutorial paper aims to present the GNU PSPP open-source software and provide guidance on the development of analytic skills using this software among higher education students. The cognitive apprenticeship theory and research are addressed first as the theoretical foundation. What follows is a description of how cognitive apprenticeship approach was applied to teaching analytic practice in a Moodle-based course offered to graduate students enrolled in the TEFL MA programme at a university in Poland, where GNU PSPP was integrated in the coursework. The paper concludes with a brief evaluation of the course, showing that this approach works well for supporting students throughout the course and for enabling them to transition towards conducting quantitative data analysis using software in their own MA research projects. The paper may be of interest to those tasked with providing training and development programmes to students, faculty and researchers in applied linguistics and beyond, including those for whom access to commercial software may be of concern
Problematyka biblijna w „Katechizmie nieświeskim” Szymona Budnego
The article presents the ways in which biblical text is utilized in the Nieśwież Catechism by Szymon Budny. Budny did not limit himself to merely quoting the Bible but used it in theological argumentation, also employing philological findings. A thorough reading of the Nieśwież Catechism reveals the author’s solid philological preparation, and the interpretative principles present there, such as considering the context of statements and using texts in their original languages, remain relevant even today. Analyzing this work is also important because it marks the first step in the long development of Budny as a philologist and theologian
