Introduction: Family planning remains underutilized in sub-Saharan Africa, despite its contribution to reducing maternal and infant mortality. In Benin, the prevalence of modern contraception among women in union increased from 3% in 1996 to 12% in 2017-2018, according to the EDSB-V, a progress still insufficient to reach optimal coverage. This study aims to identify the factors explaining the low use of modern contraceptive methods in the Djougou-Copargo- Ouaké health zone. Materials and methods: A descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study with prospective data collection was carried out among women of childbearing age (15-49 years) residing in this health zone and meeting the inclusion criteria. A multivariate analysis was performed to identify factors associated with non-use of modern contraceptive methods. Results: The prevalence of use of modern contraceptive methods was 12.01%. Several factors were associated with low use of modern contraceptive methods: desire to have children (OR = 0.039; p= 0.001), low level of knowledge about contraceptive methods (OR = 1.88; p = 0.048), lack of awareness of their benefits (OR = 25.93; p = 0.001) and no experience of unwanted pregnancy (OR= 2.07; p = 0.039). Conclusion: These results underline the need to raise awareness of modern contraception and to promote the enrolment and retention of young girls in the education system in order to improve their access to contraceptive methods and promote better family planning

Teaching Magnetism to Preschoolers through ICT: An Early Childhood Science Approach

    Get PDF
This publication aims to explore the introduction of scientific concepts during preschool age, focusing specifically on the natural sciences and the concept of magnetism. The properties and types of magnets were chosen as the central theme based on the children’s interests. The educational process began with a series of structured activities designed by the educator, followed by the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), including educational software and interactive tools used by the children. A key element of the approach was the creation of an improvised story-a fairy tale scenario-that served as a springboard for the implementation of the activities. Through the use of ICT, children were encouraged to explore and verify the concepts of magnetism and magnet properties. The use of these digital tools played a crucial role not only in reinforcing previously acquired knowledge but also in introducing new technological challenges that further enhanced the educational process. In conclusion, the integration of storytelling, hands-on activities, and ICT in teaching magnetism at the preschool level demonstrates the effectiveness of technology in enhancing engagement, understanding, and knowledge retention in early childhood science education. The evidence indicates that the integration of structured educational activities with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) proved to be an effective approach for enhancing preschool children’s conceptual understanding of magnetism. Increased engagement and active participation were observed, as storytelling and play-based methods facilitated the comprehension of core scientific concepts, such as the properties and types of magnets. ICT tools supported experiential learning by enabling children to explore, experiment, and verify acquired knowledge. Improvements were noted in observation skills, the formulation of simple hypotheses, and the ability to draw basic conclusions. Overall, the pedagogical design-enriched through the use of digital technologies, yielded positive learning outcomes and contributed significantly to the development of early scientific thinking within a preschool education context

Conceptual Formation of Curvature in the Logic of Art: An Educational Mathematical Approach

    Get PDF
This article investigates how curvature, commonly examined in differential geometry, functions as a conceptual and visual bridge between mathematics and the arts. Focusing on its presence in both abstract artworks (e.g., Kandinsky, Pollock) and architectural design (e.g., Gaudí), the study analyzes how mathematical curves such as parabolas, sinusoids, and exponential spirals are embedded in artistic compositions. Rather than treating curvature as a purely technical metric, the study presents it as a perceptual and compositional tool that structures form, evokes emotion, and communicates symbolic meaning. The paper introduces readers to core geometric principles underpinning curvature and their visual and compositional applications in art, aiming to make these concepts accessible to non-specialist readers. Employing case studies of historical and contemporary artworks, it highlights how mathematical patterns manifest intuitively in artistic practice. Key implications include the potential for curvature to foster interdisciplinary education, particularly through STEAM learning models that integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. This approach encourages enriched classroom engagement, deeper visual literacy, and a broader appreciation of form as both analytic structure and expressive language

    Get PDF
The study investigates university students’ perceptions of using a Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) approach to teach Aviation English listening skills. The integration of content knowledge with language acquisition has gained momentum in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), particularly in aviation training contexts where comprehension of authentic radio communication is critical. A mixed-methods design was employed involving 60 undergraduate aviation students at Georgian Aviation University. Data were collected via a perception questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. Results indicate that the majority of students viewed the CLIL-based approach positively, citing improved comprehension, contextual vocabulary acquisition, and increased engagement. However, some challenges, such as cognitive overload and unfamiliar terminology, were also reported. These findings suggest that CLIL holds promise for Aviation English instruction, provided that pedagogical scaffolding and appropriate materials are in place

    Get PDF
Acacia mangium is a multi-purpose species with strong economic value, due to the exploitation of its timber, which represents a very important source of income. It is one of the fast-growing tree species used in forest plantation programs in Asia, the Pacific, and humid tropical regions. In Senegal, the species was introduced in 1988 to restore marginal ecosystems in Casamance. However, the potential of the species remains unknown, and to date, no research activity has been carried out on the species since its introduction. The objective of this study is to assess the level of knowledge of the species and to characterize the growth and morphological variability of seeds in two plantations of different ages. To do this, a perception survey on 120 individuals coupled with an assessment of growth parameters, wood production, and seed dimensions was conducted in the Diakene Diola and Tao plantations, 09 and 27 years old, respectively. A descriptive analysis was performed on data obtained from the survey, whereas R software was used to compare the performance of both plantations in terms of growth and seed morphology. A principal component analysis was undertaken to visualize the relationship between variables and sites. The results of the survey showed that only 46% of people know the species despite its presence in the ecosystem, and that 4 % of them own private plantations. The species is mainly used for its wood (97%), which is directly marketed (33%) as timber or converted into charcoal (64%). The analysis of variance carried out showed a significant difference of age/site for most of the studied traits except for bole length, tree shape, and seed thickness. In fact, in the 27-year-old plantation (Tao), growth performance was estimated to be 73% larger in trunk diameter, 59% wider in crown, and 19% taller. Accordingly, wood production was 17% higher in Tao, compared to the Diakene plantations. In contrast, the seeds of trees belonging to the Diakène Diola plantation were 7% longer and 6% wider compared to those from the Tao plantation. The PCA analysis allowed for to discrimination of the two sites according to the growth parameters and seed dimensions, thus confirming the results of the ANOVA. These results have highlighted the need to improve awareness of communities about the benefits of cultivating this species to meet the growing demand for wood for energy and construction, and to reduce pressure on forest resources

    Get PDF
Choledochal cyst is a rare congenital anomaly that is difficult to diagnose in the absence of suggestive clinical signs. Its progression can lead to complications, including secondary biliary cirrhosis. The authors report the case of a 12-month-old girl with no significant medical history, admitted for progressive abdominal distension evolving over six months, accompanied by intermittent fever and pale stools. Initial imaging studies (ultrasound and computed tomography) suggested a mesenteric cyst. Surgical exploration revealed a large choledochal cyst, associated with a hypoplastic gallbladder and a cirrhotic-appearing liver. A cholecystectomy, partial cyst excision, and Roux-en-Y cystojejunostomy were performed. The postoperative course was complicated by ascites and evisceration, requiring reoperation with peritoneal drainage. Histological analysis revealed a hepatocellular adenoma. This case highlights the diagnostic challenges of choledochal cysts in infants and the importance of early diagnosis and management to prevent severe hepatic complications

    Get PDF
The study conducted in Bunkeya, a rural town in the Lubudi territory (Lualaba, DRC), aimed to characterize the diversity of rice farming systems and identify the factors explaining their heterogeneity. This area, historically marked by the kingdom of M’Siri, now offers natural conditions favorable to agriculture. A mixed methodological approach was adopted, combining Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Hierarchical Ascendant Classification (HAC), and logistic regression. The PCA highlighted key differentiating factors such as experience in rice farming, cultivated area, access to inputs, and agricultural income. Three types of farms were identified: a subsistence group with low input use, an intermediate group, and a high-performing group that is better organized and more profitable. The analysis of explanatory variables revealed four major determinants: the education level of the farm head, years of experience in rice farming, the cropping system used, and access to credit, the last factor playing a central role in the intensification of agricultural systems
