Termites are one of the most important components of African soil macrofauna. Considered ecosystem engineers, they built remarkable structures, termite mounds, in many natural ecosystems. From June to September 2022, investigations were done to assess the entomofauna evolution of ground-dwelling termites and their activity in the Botanical gardens of Stanislas Lisowski of the University of Kisangani in RD Congo. The garden was divided into 4 quadrats. After a Systematic search, 10 individuals of the soldier caste were collected from each termite mound for identification purposes. The tree species on which the termite mounds were attached were identified, and part of the ground was collected for physicochemical and granulometry analyses. Results reveal 78 termite mounds in the study area, divided into two states: the active ones accounted for 55 (70.5%) of the mounds inspected, against 23 (29.5%) for the extinct ones. A total of 2 families (the Termitidae and the Rhinotermitidae); 4 subfamilies: Macrotermitinae, Termitinae, Rhinotermitinae, and Cubitermitinae were found. The Family Termitidae was represented by 6 genera and 1 genus. The termites' mounds distribution was related to the type of tree. Of the 7 genera of identified Termites, 5 had nests attached to the trunk of the trees. That is a total of 8 vegetable species gathered in 5 families. In the garden, Macrotermes were found on three species of trees: Ficus recurvata, Pseudospondias microcarpa and Allophylus africanus; Promirotermes attached to Borassus aethiopium and Ficus recurvata; Rhinotermes attached to Pachyelasma tessmanii, Tetrorchidium didymostemon; Malaysiocapritermes attached to Terminalia superba. Soils of termite mounds present a pH slightly acidic to neutral. That is 6.5 for Macrotermes and Promirotermes, and 7.1 for Malaysiocapritermes. The soil Texture, sand, silt, and clay were completely modified from one termite genus to another

    Get PDF
Escalating anthropogenic pressures are degrading Benin’s forests and threatening commercially valuable tree species, while limited structural data hinder conservation and sustainable management. This study aims to analyze the population structure of a few species in the forests of Benin with a view to their conservation. It was conducted in the Sudano-Guinean zone (Wari-Maro classified forest) and in the Sudanian zone (Sota forest). The diameter of all trees was measured in 0.25-ha plots located in these forests. A relaxed correspondence analysis (RCA) followed by a principal component analysis (PCA) carried out on the importance value indices (IVI) made it possible to compare the floristic composition of the forests. Diversity indices, dendrometric parameters and regeneration densities were calculated; diameter structures were made. Based on the importance value indices (IVI), Isoberlinia doka and Anogeissus leiocarpa were more important in the Wari-Maro classified forest while Afzelia africana, Prosopis africana and Pterocarpus erinaceus were more important in the Sota classified forest. Pseudocedrela kotschyi and Diospyros mespiliformis had low indices in all the forests. Based on the irregularities noted in the diameter structures and regeneration densities, the study concludes that wood deficit will be noted during tree harvests at the exploitable diameters of the respective species

In modern states, identity documents are essential for accessing fundamental rights. In Côte d'Ivoire, the end of the 2010 post-election crisis was marked by a desire by the new authorities to address the identity issue, a long-standing source of tension in the country. With this in mind, the state, sometimes supported by development partners, has implemented various measures aimed at facilitating access to identity documents for the population. However, a mapping study conducted in 2019 reveals that the department of Téhini has the highest rate of people at risk of statelessness in Côte d'Ivoire, with 15,884 people affected, representing approximately 36.14% of the local population. Using a qualitative approach combining observation, documentary research, and thematic analysis of transcribed interviews, this study analyzes the mechanisms explaining the persistence of local citizenship lacking legal identity documents in this department. The results show that the weakness of public actions to combat the risk of statelessness, the asymmetry of information on mobile court procedures and territorial marginalization in the implementation of identification systems contribute to maintaining this situation

    Get PDF
This study addresses the lack of resources for effectively managing the cognitive load induced by complex learning situations in Life and Earth Sciences, Environmental Education, Hygiene, and Biotechnology (LESEEHB). It aims to analyze the influence of knowledge schematization strategies as a means of reducing the cognitive load placed on learners when processing knowledge acquired in LESEEHB. in Cameroon. Data collected from a self-administered questionnaire completed by 279 participants, selected using stratified random sampling, were analyzed using regression analysis. The results show that: the learner's attentional dispositions during learning, the prioritization of learning, the in-depth processing of transmitted knowledge, and the proceduralization of declarative knowledge are variously linked to the reduction of cognitive load. Learners must therefore understand and analyze acquired concepts in order to lighten cognitive resources for in-depth, economical, meaningful, and efficient processing of knowledge

The distribution of the ostracofauna in the Kafountine and Adéane boreholes in the south of the Senegalo-Mauritanian Basin highlights the Post Z4 ecozone of Carbonnel correlated with the Oligocene biozones O4-O6 and Miocene M3 in two lithological units. Correspondence factor analysis indicates that the genera Neonesidea, Buntonia, Cyhtherella and Isohabrocytheres are correlated with Oligocene carbonate sediments, while sandy and clayey detrital levels are mainly marked by the genera Soudanella, Neomonoceratina, Aglaiocypris, and Loxoconcha. Microfauna studies made possible the inventory of 45 species belonging to 32 genera, of which 23 are considered new and are in open nomenclature. Platycopina signal combined with a high percentage of Buntoniina in the Oligocene indicates marl-limestone sedimentation in a warm, shallow sea. Hypoxic water conditions accompanied the Oligocene to Miocene turnover, during which period a coastal environment was subject to continental influences

    Get PDF
This study examined how financing and dynamic capabilities, affect the sustainability of solar social enterprises (SSEs) in Nairobi County, Kenya. Against the backdrop of persistent energy access challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, the research aimed to find out how SSEs navigate financing barriers and leverage dynamic capabilities to achieve sustainable growth. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the study draws on in-depth interviews with SSE founders and managers, triangulated with business documents and sectoral reports. Key findings reveal that SSEs face significant obstacles in accessing finance, including perceived bias, banks’ risk aversion, and rigorous due diligence requirements - challenges that disproportionately affect locally owned enterprises. The study found entrepreneurial alertness, strategic agility and resource orchestration as the entrepreneurial dynamic capabilities enabling SSEs to mobilize resources, adapt to market shifts, and sustain operations. The study concludes that adapting financing models to local contexts and supporting the development of dynamic capabilities are vital for the long-term growth of SSEs. Interventions fostering inclusive investment and capacity-building are recommended to advance sustainable growth in Kenya’s dynamic solar sector

Evaluation de la Toxicité Subchronique du Bouillon Culinaire Commercial “ Cube Maggi ” sur les Paramètres Anthropométriques et Zootechniques chez le Rat Wistar

    Get PDF
For several years, the consumption of bouillon cubes, particularly the “Maggi” brand, has sparked controversy. Amid persistent rumors and a lack of transparency regarding their composition, many consumers remain unaware of the potential risks associated with excessive intake. A recent study suggests that “Cube Maggi” may pose health risks to humans. This study aims to assess the effects of prolonged consumption of the culinary bouillon “Cube Maggi,” combined with refined palm oil, on anthropometric and zootechnical parameters in Wistar rats. Ninety-six albino Wistar rats were divided into six groups and fed different dietary regimens over a three-month period. The diets included standard pellets, pellets enriched with refined palm oil, “Cube Maggi” at varying concentrations, and Tridax procumbens powder. Parameters measured included body mass, food intake, hydration, digestibility, and zootechnical indices. Excessive consumption of “Cube Maggi” (6%) combined with Tridax procumbens led to a significant increase in body mass, particularly in male rats. In contrast, moderate regimens did not induce nutritional imbalance or significant variation in zootechnical indices. Moderate consumption of “Cube Maggi” and refined palm oil does not appear to alter nutritional parameters in Wistar rats. However, excessive intake may promote significant weight gain
