    No full text
Cooperatives are valuable economic stimuli in the Philippines, contributing to fast economic growth since cooperatives can inject funds and resources that may use in the market. Client relation helps handle client conflicts properly and build customer retention and satisfaction, which may result in long-term relationships. The researchers conducted this study to determine the client relation practices of cooperatives in the province of Cavite. A descriptive approach was used to determine the cooperatives' client relation practices and their challenges in employing client relations. The researchers used convenience sampling in the study with a total number of 40 cooperatives involved. Four types of registered cooperatives compliant under the Cooperative Development Authority(CDA) are chosen: credit, consumer, producer, and multipurpose cooperatives. The result of the study revealed that the participants were able to highly employ client relation practices inside the organization, yet, cooperatives still encountered some challenges in employing client relations in terms of client conflict management, client retention, and client satisfaction. The researchers conclude that cooperatives were able to determine where to focus on dealing with client conflicts and increase client retention, as well as the satisfaction of their clients. However, the cooperative's client relations practices are still needed to have an in-depth re-evaluation for improvement and stabilization. This study recommends that cooperatives should adopt more effective client relation practices to sustain their operation and keep their relationship with their clients much longer

This study looks into the terminologies (police lingo) in the write-ups of Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration fourth-year students to illustrate the categorical and descriptive meanings of the words used in the narratives, identify the errors in the usage, and find out inaccuracies in the application of mechanics of writing like correct spelling, capitalization, abbreviation, and punctuation marks. Twenty-six (26) (BSLEAD) students participated in this study. They were instructed to write a narrative report in one of their experiences in the field. Police lingo identified in the statements such as nouns, verbs, and adjectives, were singled out from the narratives. These words were analyzed to determine whether they clearly stated their intention and described vividly what they meant to say. Semantic analysis was done by giving the dictionary definition of the word in the first level (categorical meaning as to parts of speech) and the illustrative meaning of the word in the second analysis (descriptive meaning), hence, the police lingo in the narratives were explained and described as to their literal meanings and clarity of intention as used in the statements. Results showed that male and female respondents have a similar choice of police lingo in writing the context of utterances in the narrative reports. They also committed errors in writing mechanics such as punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. It is recommended that the BSLEAD students engage in language learning activities like conversation using English, reading forensic texts, and listening/watching investigative programs on the radio or television that use English as a medium

Analyzing the Story of a Filipino COVID-19 Survivor through Positioning Analysis

COVID-19 has brought so many changes in the world. It is a test of faith and hope to everyone. Many scholars have used different lenses in fields of research in this topic. In language studies, many have zoomed in on this topic in corpus-based linguistics. In discourse analysis, few studies have dealt with this, especially narrative analysis. Using the frameworks of Bamberg (1997) and Barkhuizen (2009), three levels of positioning analysis were unpacked by a COVID-19 survivor’s life story. The first level of positioning answers how the characters positioned themselves concerning the events that happened. On the other hand, the second level of positioning seeks to answer how the characters positioned themselves to the audience. Lastly, the third level of positioning aims to position narrators to themselves. The participant was a student of the researcher who agreed to share his story in this paper. The main character almost lost his life due to COVID-19 and was hospitalized for nearly two weeks. The researcher discovered linguistic elements present during the interview, such as linguistic politeness, transitional devices, metaphors, and discourse particles, that helped the researcher analyze and unpack the three levels of positioning analysis. The actual occurrences that happened to the participant served as a turning point in his experience–from non-believer to believer of COVID-19. The paper further explored how COVID-19 became a test of faith, love, and hope to the participant

Management Control Systems Practices in Small and Medium Enterprises

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) comprise 99.6\% of the Philippine economy. Many studies have said that SMEs do not need and do not use management control systems (MCS) due to their simple organizational structure and limited resources. Most MCS research and their empirical evidence have nearly been completely founded on information from bigger organizations or their sub-units. It has been expressed that modern Management Accounting Practices (MAPs) and sophisticated systems may likewise be valuable for private ventures, albeit small firms may have dissimilar needs than their larger counterpart. Thus, this study determines the MCS adopted and used in SMEs in Misamis Occidental. A descriptive study using a survey questionnaire was administered to 100 randomly selected SMEs in Misamis Occidental. The questionnaires were personally delivered and administered to facilitate questions raised by the respondents regarding the items in the survey. The result showed that SMEs in Misamis Occidental utilize a wide scope of MCS practices and information. However, numerous practices are not incorporated as profoundly and systematically into their business operations. The outcome also shows that MCS is themed with financial, customer-oriented, and strategic-oriented controls. Thus, aside from designing MCS suited to SMEs, there is a need to guide them in the technical application, adoption, and utilization of MCS data. The data can be used as a base for additional scholarly examination in business
