Get PDFThere are many students aiming at being teachers and entering the teacher-training course, including the department of education. However, because of the influence of the news about the bad images of schools and teaching practice failure, the number of teacher applicants decreases year by year. Even if the students of the teacher-training course meet with any situation, it is important to acquire the high-quality technical knowledge and the sincere attitude toward children and parents for improvement of the quality of education with their firm convictions. The purpose of this study is to have them learn the view of teaching profession deeply and establish the ideal teacher image through the personal coaching for passing the teacher employment examination and practical training rather than to have them pass the teacher employment examination. Get PDFIn this paper, based on the theory of “Backward Design”, we attempted to design a unit in the figure domain for second grade elementary school students. At the beginning of the unit, we drew a realistic context for learning these shapes （rectangular parallelepipeds and cubes）, and proceeded with the unit while focusing on the components of the figures and the relationships between the components. At the end of the unit, as a performance task, we set up a learning activity in which the children actually made a rectangular parallelepiped or a cubic box, and had them describe the review of the entire unit. As a result, we were able to confirm the usefulness of unit design and performance tasks based on the theory of “Backward Design”.
