Visual, tactual, and olfactory representation in young children’s drawings : Intermodal transfer of perceptual information.
The present study investigated young children’s process of drawing especially focusing on the intermodal representations among touching, smelling, and seeing the concrete object (fruits or vegetables). And children given visuo-spatial imagery instruction were expected to activate visuo-spatial expression than other cross modal perceptual instructions as tactual-spatial or olfactory-spatial instructions. Thirty-six nursery school children aged 4 to 5 participated in this study. Every child was randomly assigned either to “tactual”, “olfactory”, or “visual” -spatial (perceptual) condition within blocks of six children in each age. The cross modal perception - expression (drawing) tasks were composed of 6 kinds of vegetables and fruits. Children in visuo-spatial condition showed higher expected activation of visuo-spatial drawing than other cross modal perceptual instructions as tactual-spatial or olfactory-spatial conditions. A series of results in this experiment were discussed in terms of young children’s development of cross modal representation (perception-expression) and cognitive and language abilities.departmental bulletin pape

Advantages and disadvantages of home economics teachers’work styles : Based on interview surveys from home economics high school teachers in Kumamoto
Although some reforms have been implemented to teachers’ work styles, the movement away from teaching continues. Particularly prominent is the scarcity of home economics teachers in Kumamoto’s junior high school and high school systems.
The objectives of this paper are 1) to examine the advantages and disadvantages of home economics teachers’ work styles, based on interview surveys, and 2) to develop plans for making the school environment easier for home economics teachers to work in.
To achieve this, we conducted interview surveys on advantages and disadvantages of home economics teachers’ work styles with 11 home economics high school teachers in Kumamoto, over the period of October 17-Nobember 13, 2023.
Our results are as follows: 1) Home economics teachers mentioned that the advantages of being a teacher included the fact that they could grow with their students, that they could convey the values of home economics, and that they could make their own teaching materials. 2) They also presented some ideas to make their workplaces more amenable, for example, encouraging younger teachers to go home early, introducing flexible shifts at their schools, employing some assistant teachers to help part-time teachers raising children, and more.departmental bulletin pape
Results of implementation of single-unit health guidance by yogo teachers for groups involved in class activities: Responding to questions on the health of elementary school students from third to sixth grade at the time children are measured for height and weight
The goal of this research is to facilitate consideration of brief health guidance for groups of individuals. Based on content from questions pertaining to health and physicality pertaining to height and weight, we implemented one unit of health guidance by yogo teachers for groups involved in class activities. The results were then examined.
Learning content was determined based on questions pertaining to the physical body and growth derived from this opportunity, which inspired greater interest in physicality on the part of the children themselves. Educational materials were then selected to pique the interest and enthusiasm of the children. Results indicate that health guidance comprised of questions that instill thinking in the target audience of the children is most effective.departmental bulletin pape
