ホケンジョ ソーシャルワーク ノ ヘンヨウ : リッチモンド ノ ケースワーク カテイ オ フマエテ

In this report, we examine changes in social work at healthcare centers, using statistical data from 1948 to 1958, field study data from the later 1950s, and cases around 1950. The results show that many social casework processes, as systematized by Ms. Richmond, including social investigation, diagnosis, and treatment, were not generally conducted in social work at healthcare centers during this period. This tendency started in 1948 when social work was introduced into healthcare centers and became notable after 1955. We refer to this approach as a “segmentalized social casework process” in this report.departmental bulletin pape

Translation of Takeda Taijun’s Works in Manchukuo: An Analysis Based on Translators’ Backgrounds and Discourses Related to Lu Xun

This study explores discourses on Lu Xun in Manchukuo and examines Cui Shu’s role as a translator. Despite Lu Xun being deemed subversive in Manchukuo, young intellectuals, including members of the “Leftist Reading Group,” continued to engage with his works. Cui Shu, who obtained The Complete Works of Lu Xun published by Kaizo in 1937, translated Takeda Taijun’s The Man Who Sold His Shadow, which was published in 1941. By analyzing this translation, the study investigates the unique reception of Lu Xun in Manchukuo, Cui Shu’s motivations, and the intellectual resonance of translation. It also reconsiders Takeda’s post-leftist ideology and highlights how translation acted as a medium for young intellectuals to navigate cultural and ideological complexities in a foreign context.departmental bulletin pape

The quintessence of the history of English : From “synthetic” to “analytic”

The English language has developed from a synthetic language to an analytic language. This means that its system to morphologically present grammatical functions such as cases or moods, making use of inflectional endings has changed into the one that mainly shows them syntactically, utilizing prepositions or specific types of word order. As for simplifying case-endings of nouns or adjectives, it seemed to play a crucial role whether the ending involved has a particular sound, i.e., /s/ or not. And concerning the loss of the conjugational endings of verbs for their subjunctive and imperative moods, it was compensated with the extended use of the indicative mood and the introduction of non-finite verb forms instead of their finite forms, the latter of which is rather exceptional in that a ‘clause’ with a nominative subject has no finite verb at all. This systemic change had been triggered by the settlement in England of the Vikings who spoke Old Norse and lived side by side with the Old English speaking Anglo-Saxons, before the huge impact of the Norman Conquest accelerated the speed of change from syntheticity to analyticity in the English language.departmental bulletin pape
