Synthesis, Biological Evaluation, in Silico ADMET Prediction, Molecular Docking and Dynamics Studies of 4‐phenoxyphenyl‐thiazole‐Schiff Base Derivatives
A series of novel thiazole-Schiff base analogs (2a-2i) were synthesized through a multicomponent reaction involving thiosemicarbazide, 4-phenoxybenzaldehyde, and α-haloketone/phenacyl bromide derivatives. IR, 1H NMR, and HRMS spectroscopic techniques characterized the newly synthesized derivatives. These compounds were subsequently employed for their antimicrobial and antioxidant activities using agar disc diffusion and DPPH free radical scavenging methods. The multi-faceted activity of compound 2c was revealed in both In Vitro experiments. It exhibited the highest potency against Bacillus subtilis (26.0 ± 1.0 mm) and Aspergillus niger (22.3 ± 0.6 mm) which exceeded the inhibitory value of standard ceftriaxone (20.7 ± 0.6 mm) and amphotericin B (8.7 ± 0.6 mm), respectively. Additionally, 2c demonstrated a remarkable sevenfold increase in antioxidant capability (IC50 = 7.17 ± 2.61 µg/mL) compared to the standard ascorbic acid (IC50 = 49.69 ± 19.18 µg/mL). The in silico ADMET prediction demonstrated that most synthesized compounds adhered to Lipinski's rule of five and Veber's rule, with 2i being the exception with one violation. Molecular docking studies and dynamics simulation were conducted to explore potential binding sites, interactions, and stability of the ligand-protein complexes, providing insights aligned with the In Vitro results.journal articl

Empathy and attachment of human service professions : A comparison of characteristics among teachers, child welfare facility workers, and students enrolled in a teacher education program
Empathy and attachment styles play important role in human service professionals working with children and youth; however, excessive empathy and inappropriate boundaries can become burdensome for them. Similarly, teachers are required to maintain a balanced level of empathy and appropriate boundaries in their relationships with children and youth. In this study, a questionnaire survey was conducted on a total of 353 individuals, including teachers, child welfare facility workers, and students enrolled in a teacher education program to compare their levels of empathy and attachment styles. The results of a one-way analysis of variance showed that students in teacher education programs generally had higher levels of empathy and fear of abandonment than teachers and child welfare facility workers, while child welfare workers had higher levels of intimacy avoidance. These findings suggest that empathy can be shaped appropriately through actual experiences with children. In addition, they indicate that establishing clear boundaries between work and personal life may be particularly important in the field of child welfare.departmental bulletin pape

Reimagining the Unfinished Film “The Sea Will Never Die” : Drawing from Noriaki Tsuchimoto’s Concept of Revitalizing the Shiranui Sea
This study examines the potential for reimagining the unfinished documentary “Umi ha Shinazu (The Sea Will Never Die)” by Noriaki Tsuchimoto( 1928–2008) in contemporary times. It explores how the filmʼs concept evolved and was ultimately abandoned through Tsuchimotoʼs various encounters. Drawing from Tsuchimotoʼs documentaries, unpublished project proposals, lecture transcripts, media articles, and published writings, the research uncovers his attempt to portray a form of emotional healing for people living with Minamata disease that transcended legal, medical, or economic “relief.” Furthermore, Tsuchimoto sought to depict regeneration in a context distinct from environmental restoration. The study also considers how the regeneration of the Shiranui Sea, as envisioned by Tsuchimoto, could challenge historicist inevitability and catalyze change in the current situation, based on Walter Benjaminʼs concept. This perspective is particularly relevant at a time when political resolutions to Minamata disease and compensatory “relief” tend to dominate discussions.departmental bulletin pape
Call and Response with James Baldwin : Randall Kenan’s The Fire This Time
This article examines how Randall Kenan’s The Fire This Time (2007) creates a dialogue using James Baldwin’s words. Baldwin often begins his essays by discussing his background and sharing his emotional responses to personal struggles, illustrating the complexity of African American racial identity. Kenan follows Baldwin’s confessional narrative style in The Fire This Time to reflect on his own life through Baldwin’s words, offering insight into the African American male experience in the twenty-first century. This article suggests that Kenan’s work shows how Baldwin’s emotionally charged narrative can be helpful for contemporary African American writers to describe their personal experiences and address broader issues of race.departmental bulletin pape
