Outcome of diaphyseal femur fractures treated with enders nail in paediatric age group

    Get PDF
Introduction: In children, shaft femur fracture is the most common injury sustained. Earlier these fractures were treating conservatively but with advancement of orthopaedic implants and surgical modalities now operative intervention is favourable for early mobilization with less complication. Inadequate reduction/fixation can lead to growth disturbances among children about to attain skeletal maturity closure. Variety of surgical options includes external fixators, plates and flexible intramedullary nails and has its own complications, but the choice of implant to be used as gold standard in the management of these fractures is still a matter of debate. Enders nailing among the Flexible Intramedullary Nails, being a minimal invasive procedure and tensile property of the nail along with the feasibility of early mobilization led to its popularity. Aim: Aim of the study was to evaluate the use of Enders nail in paediatric diaphyseal femur fractures in terms of union, complications, early mobility and minimally invasive technique. Materials and Methods: This interventional prospective study was conducted from May 2017- April 2019 with 32 paediatric patients with diaphyseal femur fracture in a 5-15 years age group. Retrograde Enders nailing was done in all diaphyseal femur fractures using traction table

    Get PDF
Background: Sleep disturbances experienced by low birth weight baby may disrupt the process of neural development and maturity of the babies’ brain due to various stimuli during their care. To date, kangaroo care is only performed by the mothers. The purpose of this study was to identify the difference of quiet sleep duration about low birth weight (LBW) babies carried out by kangaroo care by father and mother. Methods: The research design was post test-only nonequivalent control group using a consecutive sampling technique with 16 respondents of low birth weight babies hospitalized in three hospitals in Aceh. Kangaroo care (KC) was carried out for at least 60 minutes or until the parents/babies don't want to anymore. Video recording of the baby was taken 15 minutes after the KC sling was installed and lasted for 60 minutes. Statistical analysis using Paired t-test. Results: There was no significant difference between the duration of quiet sleep of LBW babies given kangaroo care performed by fathers and mothers (p-value 0,77)

Patient perception who had undergone root canal treatment

    Get PDF
Introduction: Root canal treatment (RCT) is generally known as a painful procedure. One of the most significant disadvantages of root canal therapy is that most patients are unaware of it. To effectively address the problem, it is important to understand and recognise the factors that prevent or deter patients from undergoing RCT. According to a review of the literature, there is a scarcity of data on RCT knowledge and acceptance among patients in the Indian population. Aim: The aim of this present study is to assess the patients perception who had undergone root canal treatment. Materials and Methods: 100 participants were involved in the study. A well structured questionnaire containing 15 questions was administered to the participants through an online survey link. The responses were analysed through descriptive statistics using SPSS software. The results are represented through pie charts and association graphs. Results and Discussion: The patients association is not significant. This shows that if patients are not properly educated regarding RCT, they get motivated to undertake the treatment. Patients' confidence can be increased by informing them about potential post endodontic pain and administering drugs to handle it

Circle fitting of boundaries of microarray spots

    Get PDF
A new circle fitting algorithm is presented that generates the best circle to approximate the boundary of a given microarray spot. Here, the best approximation means, the total differential area between the circumference of the circle and the boundary of the spot is kept minimum. The center and the radius of the circle are determined to satisfy this condition. The differential area is used as a quantitative metric to represent the boundary quality of the corresponding microarray spot
