Analysis of serum metal ion levels in dental implant patients
Background: Dental implants have been widely used for the replacement of missing teeth in fully and partially edentulous patients. Titanium (Ti) has been the material of choice for dental implants due to its superior corrosion resistance behaviour and desirable mechanical properties. Hence; the present study was undertaken for assessing the serum metal ion levels in Dental Implant Patients. Materials & methods: A total of 20 subjects with missing mandibular first molar and scheduled for prosthetic rehabilitation for same using dental implant therapy were enrolled. Blood samples were obtained at baseline and sent to laboratory where auto-analyser was used for evaluation of metal ions levels. All the dental implant procedures were carried out under the hands of skilled implantologists. After placement of dental implants, blood samples were obtained at 8 weeks and 6 months follow-up. Metal ions were assessed at subsequent follow-ups. All the results were analysed by SPSS software. Results: Mean serum titanium concentration at baseline, 8 weeks and 6 months was fond to be 2.39 mg/dL, 2.35 mg/dL and 2.38 mg/dL respectively. Mean serum aluminium concentration at baseline, 8 weeks and 6 months was fond to be 4.19 mg/dL, 4.16 mg/dL and 4.18 mg/dL respectively
Comparison of chlorhexidine coated polyglycolic acid sutures with silk sutures during third molar surgery: A prospective, randomized, double-blind clinical study
Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare chlorhexidine coated polyglycolic acid sutures with silk sutures during third molar surgery. Materials And Methods: The study design was a double-blinded randomized control trial. Patients who visited the department of oral and maxillofacial surgery for the surgical removal of mesioangular impacted third molar were assessed for enrolment. A total of 20 patients participated in this study. Patients were divided into two groups. Group A consisted of patients who received chlorhexidine coated polyglycolic acid sutures. Group B consisted of patients who received silk sutures. Surgical removal of the impacted mandibular third molar was done. Post operatively all Patients in both groups were prescribed with Amoxicillin 500mg for 5 days three times a day and Diclofenac 50 mg thrice daily for 3 days. Patients were asked to report back after a week for review. They were contacted over the telephone to score postoperative pain. If the pain score was greater than 5 they were asked to report to the hospital. Results: In group A a mean postoperative pain score of 4 was observed. In Group B a mean postoperative pain score of 3 was observed.
Efficacy of vibratory shaking technique in improving the vitals in post COVID ICU patients
Background: SARS-CoV-2 virus lead to the start of pandemic in 2019. With the variation in COVID 19 symptom involving lungs its need for intensive treatment in a hospital setting is emerging. Even after recovery the patients need to be stabilized for their oxygen saturation and other vitals for which they need invasive mechanical ventilation and chest physiotherapy. Vibratory shaking technique is a form of physiotherapeutic maneuver which helps in stabilizing the vitals and maintaining spo2 when delivered by a trained therapist. Objectives: To find out the efficacy of vibratory shaking technique to improve Oxygen saturation and vitals in post COVID, ICU patients. Methods: The patients admitted in ICU after post COVID recovery were given with vibratory shaking technique to improve their oxygen saturation and respiratory rate. The pre and post test value showed significance. Result: Vibratory shaking technique was found to be effective in improving the vitals in post COVID, ICU patient. Conclusion: For post COVID patient’s chest physiotherapy i.e. vibratory shaking technique should play an important part for improving the vitals of patient who are still on ventilator
Management of frozen shoulder by leech therapy and adjuvant phytotherapy: A case study
BACKGROUND: Frozen shoulder is also known as adhesive capsulitis. It is one of the common musculoskeletal disorders. Its common symptoms such as pain and restricted movement of the shoulder joint. Conventional management of frozen shoulder include oral analgesics, range of motion exercises, intra- capsular corticosteroids injection, local application of analgesic oils and ointments but no such effective results have been found yet. As per Ayurveda perspective the condition can be correlated with Avabahuka. Further, Jalaukavacharana (~leech therapy) is one of the ancient para-surgical procedure described in Ayurveda for treatment of variety of such inflammatory condition along with other para surgical procedure and internal herbal drugs. METHODOLOGY: A 52 -year female patient having chief complaints of pain with restricted movement of left shoulder joint, pain in cervical region radiating towards left shoulder joint and mild tingling sensation on lower back region, was clinically diagnosed as case of frozen shoulder. This patient was treated with specific regimen such as Jalaukavacharana (~leech therapy) locallyalong with Ashwagandhaghanvati and Panchatikta ghrita guggulu internally. The parameters observed for prognosis were pain, stiffness, range of movements. Therapeutic evaluation of treatment was done based on improvement in the symptoms.
Study the pathogenicity of Providencia Vermicola in mice
P. vermicola is an opportunistic pathogen of human and animals. To estimate the pathogeneses of P.vermicola in mice infected orally and I/P with 1x108 CFU/ml).The histopathological changes at 24 hrs showed infiltration of inflammatory cells and apoptosis in hepatocytes in the liver, infiltration of inflammatory cells around a congested blood vessel and interstitial tissue of kidney; lung revealed congestion of blood vessels, infiltration of inflammatory cells and alveolar emphysema; intestine appeared infiltration of mononuclear cells in mucosa layer with hyperplasia of goblet cells. In mice infected I/P, the liver showed infiltration of inflammatory cells in a necrotic area with granulomatous lesion formation, the spleen showed depletion of white pulp. The kidney revealed dilatation of bowman’s space with vacuolation of glomeruli. The intestine appeared infiltration of inflammatory cells in mucosa and submucosa layers with hyperplasia of goblet cells, also, the lung showed infiltration of inflammatory cells in interalveolar septa and alveolar emphysema.
PTSD in health workers during COVID 19 pandemic: A systematic review
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected both the physical and mental health of frontline health workers (HCWs). Mental health problems have been reported among these HCWs irrespective of any history of psychologic illness in the past . Prevention of post-traumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) in healthcare workers (HCWs) facing the current COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge worldwide as HCWs are likely to experience acute and chronic, often unpredictable, occupational stressors leading to PTSD. This review aims to analyse the literature to discover which topics have been focused on occurance of PTSD and what the latest progresses are in managing the risk in HCWs during the current pandemic The study involved a systematic review from internet databases such as Pubmed and CINHAL. Following that, databases were accessed to conduct a more detailed search of the literature using key phrases and Boolean operators to create articles pertinent to the issue. 64 records identified. The duplicates and those not matching with the criteria were excluded. 8 articles were filtered using an inclusion/exclusion criterion.
