    Environmental training of students of the civil engineering career the Universidad Tecnica de Manabi

    The Civil Engineering course teaches different subjects in its academic program, which has in their educational task to offer knowledge to students, their intervention in the environmental space, within the framework of their actions as future civil engineers. The objective of the research is to reflect on the knowledge acquired in the environmental training of students of the civil engineering career. For this purpose, the standardized survey technique was used with structured questions that collected the work of the educational program of the race and was applied to 75 students of the different levels. The result obtained allowed to know to what extent the environmental training of students, has repercussions on the preparation of future civil engineers, in addition to the degree of concern for environmental problems and the predisposition to work in order to reduce the impacts derived from the professional practice of The Civil Engineering, taking into account the implication of the sustainable development in the academic formation. During the investigation, it was verified that students are aware of the importance of preservation and respect for nature through the use of clean energies, where they have expressed concern about the contamination and depletion of natural resources. The results obtained can have a positive influence on the constructive future of the province, depending on the implementation of an appropriate sustainable development policy

    Use of small wind turbines in isolated areas social impact

    Local development is aimed at achieving sustainability and energy independence with the use of indigenous resources, in this environment technologies that take advantage of wind energy is one of the most propitious in low wind speed. Since very remote times have been solving different problems in the isolated and rural areas, in the province of Manabí there are no high wind speeds these are maintained between 2.5 and 3.5 m / s. In the research carried out, it was possible to demonstrate the feasibility of implementing small wind turbines in most of the territory of the Chone canton of the province of Manabí, visualizing that the implementation of small-scale technology can provide adequate solutions to the use of the resource since there is potentiality Energy to introduce the technology with the use of micro-wind turbines that its starting speed is in the range of 1-3 m / s, knowing that these only require small technical maintenance, besides being viable technologies to support the change of Energy matrix, generation of jobs and promises to achieve energy independence in isolated rural areas, improving the living conditions of the population and enhancing social development

    Problems faced by teachers in designing and implementing authentic assessment in science teaching

    This study was aimed at identifying the problems faced by the teachers in designing and implementing authentic assessment in science for Junior High School and Senior High School in Bali.  The sample consisted of 73 teachers of Junior and Senior High School in Bali. The instrument used to collect the data in this study was a questionnaire.  The results of the questionnaire were followed up with Focus Group Discussion (FGD) by involving selected teachers. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results show that 1) there is a lack of understanding about NOS and its implication in science teaching, 2) limited understanding on the part of the teachers about authentic assessment, 3) lack of science laboratory facilities to support practicum/inquiry activities, and 4) lack of internal and external supervision related to authentic assessment

    Flower position on main stem and branches affect fruit set in citrus plant (nobillis var, microcarpa l)

    The aim  of the research  is to  find  out  best  citrus  flower  position  (shot  tips or axillary shoot) in relation to fruit formation ‘Seam’ citrus. The research was done on Citrus which belongis to the farmer at Catur village, district Kintamani, Bangli Regency, Bali. The research was conducted from May 2014 -April 2015. Ten years old Citrus plants were used in this study.  Five Plants were chosen.  Flower  development  and  fruit  formation  were observed  on six  different  positions on  the  plant,  i.e. main stem: lower  part, middle  part  and an upperpart, and  branch which include lower axillary part of the branches, middle axillary branch and on the tips. Variable observed were a number of flowers developed, both in main stem and branches during on-season and off-season flowering time. Another observation was a number of fruits developed on each position. Results show that flower best on lower axillary branches, both during on-season (54,16%)the base and off-season (45,02%). Flower developed on the tips were much lower, bot on-season (6,90%) and off-season (12,50%). The highest number of fruits was also achieved attheloweraxillary branch during on-season (52,23 %) and off-season (35,27 %

    Developing instructional multimedia for teaching line and angle to the seventh grade students of junior high school

    This study was aimed at : (1) developing an instructional multimedia design  for teaching line and angle to the seventh grade students of junior high school;  (2) describing  the result of the implementation of the multimedia using GeoGebra as media of  exploration, Camtasia Studio  as  an application for sound and  video editing, Lectora Inspire  as the application for making layout and quiz;(3) finding out the validity of the multimedia for teaching line and angle to the seventh grade students of junior high school. The study used DDD-E model that consists of deciding, design, develop, and evaluate stages. The product was tried out in several stages which were done by instructional materials experts, and students at different schools and used qualitative and descriptive quantitative data analysis techniques. The result showed that the multimedia for teaching line and angle could be accepted as  instructional media with the average score of 43.5 from the instructional material experts falling into valid criterion, and the mean score given by the material experts  was17 falling into valid criterion

    Behavior of clayey soil existing in the portoviejo canton and its neutralization characteristics

    oai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/4An investigation has been carried out on soil characterization and behavior in the canton of Portoviejo province of Manabí, in the Eloy Alfaro street sector of the Andrés de Vera Parish; where pits or open-air surveys were carried out and experimental laboratory tests of soils. It was demonstrated that soils have expansive properties of different characteristics, from medium to high degree of expansively according to the results of Laboratory of Soil Mechanics, where samples were tested analyzing the behavior according to the soil type. In this context, the results obtained by incorporating lime into the mixture are presented in 3 and 6%, thus obtaining a reduction by contraction to the volumetric change of the soil between 8 and 13%, allowing to improve its physical and mechanical properties; as well as its increase to bearing capacity by the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test method from 9 to 16%, thus improving soil plasticity. With the results obtained, a description of the soil could be elaborated to determine the variations and changes according to the lime content, which was added to the soil, which allowed to reduce the deformations and damages caused to the superficial and structural pavement caused by the clays expansive, because in contact with the water the soil expands and at the same time when it drains the water contracts, proving that stabilizing the expansive clays with hydrated lime would improve the conditions of the pavement and its useful life

    The effect of aerobic and anaerobic physical training on the absorptive cells, absorption of carbohydrate and protein in small intestine

    The purpose of this study is to investigate the morphofunctional response of a total number of absorptive cells, and carbohydrate and protein absorption capability in the small intestine of Rattus norvegicus strain Wistar (RNSW) that has been subjected to aerobic and anaerobic physical training based on the morphofunctional physiological paradigm. This study was based on the separate sample pretest-posttest control group design, using a t-test, and multivariate SPSS ten program, with five percent level of significance. The sample consisted of one hundred and twenty, male RNSW, with average age of five months, and body weight of 246-278 grams. They were divided into twelve groups at random, i.e. four pretest groups, two control groups, and six treated groups where different diets were given thirty minutes before undergoing posttest. The experimental animals underwent four weeks physical training (twelve times), three groups were given aerobic physical training by swimming with a burden of three percent fasting body weight, the others three groups received anaerobic physical training by swimming with a burden of nine percent fasting body weight. The experiment was conducted at night, between 7.30 PM to 10.30 PM, in a water with a temperature of    28°C to 30°C. Result of the study revealed: (1) Aerobic and anaerobic physical training, increased the number of absorptive cells (t = -73,281, p = 0,000), and increased the absorptive capacity of carbohydrate and protein (Hotelling’s Trace = 0,244, p = 0,000). (2) There was a difference in the increased absorptive capacity of carbohydrate and protein among groups (Hotelling’s Trace = 0,404a, p = 0,000). Aerobic physical training had less influence than anaerobic physical training on the increased number of absorptive cells, and the absorptive capacity of carbohydrate and protein in the small intestine. In conclusion: (1) Aerobic physical training of swimming with a burden of three percent fasting body weight, and anaerobic physical training of swimming with a burden nine percent fasting body weight correlate with the increase the number of absorptive cells, and carbohydrate and protein absorptive capacity of the small intestine. (2) Anaerobic physical training of swimming with a burden nine percent fasting body weight has better correlation than aerobic physical training of swimming with a burden of three percent fasting body weight with the increased number of absorptive cells, and the absorptive capacity of carbohydrate and protein in the small intestine

    This study aimed at determining: (1) the difference in the effect of employing the Bruner’s cognitive stages on the students’ understanding of fractions concept, (2) which of the Bruner’s cognitive stages gave better effect on the students’ understanding of the fractions concept, and (3) the linkage of Bruner’s cognitive stages which gave the best effect on the students' understanding of fractions concept based on the students’ self-efficacy. This research was a mixed method of the explanatory sequential type that combined quantitative and qualitative research. At first, experimental research was conducted then a case study was conducted to complement quantitative data.
