Quest for a new epoch progressive movement in odia literature
The Progressive Writers’ Movement has been seen by literary historians as a defining phase in the history of Indian literature(s). It easily caught the imagination of the writers and intellectuals, and soon took the shape of a widespread movement influencing the thinking and writing of the succeeding generations. It has been universally believed that the Movement had its inception in India at the Progressive Writers’ Conference held at Lucknow in April 1936. In my paper, I seek to historicize the genesis and development of the idea of progressivism abroad and the subsequent formation of the Progressive Writers’ Association, first in London and then in India; with emphasis on the Movement in colonial Odisha under the leadership of Bhagabati Charan Panigrahi which has almost gone unnoticed and unacknowledged by scholars and historians
The language power, acculturation model towards urban society of transmigration region: wayang ménak sasak art studies in lombok
The language (oral) was a tool for communicating with each other. Furthermore, through the language (both oral and written) a human was able to express their thoughts to be accepted environment. Therefore, the language as a tool, the human will keep their desire or their ideology unlike puppeteers in performing the Wayang Menak Sasak in Lombok. The language role was actualized by a puppeteer in term of briefing (the counter of Bourdieu theories (2004: 157) that stated the symbolic violence towards the culture, including the language), i.e. opened minded for the society in understanding a language beyond their mother tongue, especially, for the multi-cultural society, unlike Indonesia. In understanding, the local language out of mother tongue for Indonesian societies urged to be actualized as an effort to build a humanist society, i.e. the society who love their nation culture through the culture exchanging between Indonesian citizens forsaking the NKRI (The Unitary Country of Indonesia Republic). Other than language, the art understanding beyond an art that inherited by societies group (ethnic) in this archipelago was urgent to endorsed by the government. Understanding the language and the arts for a society citizen out of the mother tongue and ethnicity within the unitary state of Indonesia was expected that Indonesia citizen understood across culture to their own ethnic culture. Thus, a mutually understanding, mutual understanding to each other will be improved in a culture that was a peace togetherness unlike happened in Lombok
Karna (the unsung hero of Mahabharata: the voice of the subaltern)
My research paper entitled ‘Karna- The Unsung Hero of Mahabharata: The Voice of the Subaltern’ appealed me a lot personally, as though this paper I did not just get the pleasure of reading several books but also got chance to do research on the greatest epic Mahabharata. Mahabharata is considered the greatest epic among all the grants and holy book, however, seeing it through the eyes of Karna, is entirely different as he is not just the greatest archer but also the unsung hero whose life is not less than any inspiration for all of us
The factors which faded the implementation of traditional wedding ceremony and death ceremony in mandailing ethnic society in medan and in their hometown: Muarasoma regency, Madina
Based on the topic and the problems of the research, the writer focussed on the analyses of the factors which might fade the implementation of a traditional wedding ceremony in Medan and in Muarasoma, Batang Natal Regency in South Tapanuli. The data were collected by using the method of direct and open interview. Qualitative method is used to explain and describe the data in the form of statements ideas and thoughts which will be analyzed by using the theory of culture and local wisdom. There are about twenty informants from both places. They might represent traditional/local leaders in their society. They expressed their ideas and thoughts about the implementation of the traditional wedding ceremony. It could be seen from the analyses that the implementation of a traditional wedding ceremony in Medan was decreasing due to the large sum of money and time spent for the wedding ceremony. In Muarasoma, it needed three days and nights to conduct the ceremony because it had a long process to be done. Beginning with the invitation, discussion among the leading persons, slaughtering the bull, performing of Gerdang Sembilan, traditional dancing, giving advice and clan name for the bride and so on. In Medan, people only spend one day to make the wedding ceremony, it is so simple and efficient. Anyhow, all informants hope that Mandailing people will hold their tradition and culture strongly in the future
Exploring the educational values of oral texts of balinese oral tradition
The main concern of the present study is to analyze the educational values of the oral text of genjek oral tradition performed by several genjek groups in Karangasem, the eastern part of Bali. Genjek is one of the most popular oral traditions in Bali and it is a spontaneous performing oral art by a group of young villagers to express their feeling, though, and criticisms to the existing conditions of the country. All criticisms and suggestions are conveyed through songs in common Balinese language accompanied by acoustic Balinese bamboo music instruments. Their performances are usually funny and entertaining. Most of the lyrics are created spontaneously during the performance. As an oral traditional, genjek is mainly performed for entertainment and the education of their supporting society. This study found that most of the oral text of genjek Karangasem contains educational values which are really important to maintain the harmony of the social life of the society. In addition, the present study revealed that genjek is also an effective way of educating a big crowd of people. Therefore, it is recommended that genjek should be utilized more extensively, especially in social education and in conveying mass information which is needed to be known by the society
Relational grammar of passive in Japanese
This article examines the Japanese passives through the study of relational grammar. Japanese passive construction could be divided into three types, namely Chokusetsu Ukemi ‘direct passive', Mochinushi no Ukemi 'possessive passive', and Daisansha no Ukemi ' third person passive'. An analysis of the passive grammatical relation based on the Relational Grammar (RG) theory indicates a change of grammatical relation has the same revaluation on the type of Chokusetsu Ukemi, the direct object of active construction becomes the subject of the passive and the subject of active construction becomes chomeur. In Japanese, Mochinushi no Ukemi, and Daisansha no Ukemi can be handled by the RG with its own constraints
Man's endless pursuit of an elusive destination in samuel beckett’s waiting for godot
Backett’s characters continue onwards the vain pursuit of destination because they have no alternative but to go on. This is the way of life that no one can cure the pains of life, so they must be endured. The man is struggling with the jest of humanity and is constantly trying to make sense of his own existence as a human being. Estragon addresses Vladimir, “we always find something, eh, Didi, to give us the impression that we exist?”(Beckett,60) It seems as if a human being cannot be beyond this mere impression of existence. It is the winding wheel of time that induces uncontrollable restlessness and anguish in the characters, such that they, without inhibition go on moving directionless and tread the dissolving line between remembering and forgetting, between past and present, between happiness and sorrow. Shorn of vitality, they are constantly haunted by the past and its, present manifestations in the form of reminiscences regrets and yearnings
