Geossociolinguística Cognitiva: variação sociocultural e espacial na cognição e no uso da linguagem
Full text linkThe emergence of Cognitive Geosociolinguistics, an interdisciplinary paradigm that integrates the principles of Sociolinguistics, Geolinguistics and Cognitive Linguistics, developed in Santos’ doctoral thesis (2021), represents one of the most recent models of Cognitive Linguistics. Its objective is to explore the geosociocognitive dimensions of linguistic variation and change, using quantitative and robust empirical methods. This study, therefore, presents the reasons for the need for this emerging area, albeit synoptically, showing its inevitability within the scope of Cognitive Linguistics, the ways and methods of reconciling the “cognitive”, “sociocultural” and “geospatial” aspects. As an application to Portuguese, an overview of a research on conceptual onomasiological variation within the domain of sexuality is presented, more specifically of the female and male genital-sexual organs, making use of a representative sociodialectological sample of 72 employees surveyed and residents of Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil, from the perspective of the linguistic description model in theme.Keywords: Onomasiological variation. Cognitive Geosociolinguistics.A emergência de uma Geossociolinguística Cognitiva, um paradigma interdisciplinar que integra os princípios da Sociolinguística, da Geolinguística e da Linguística Cognitiva, desenvolvido na tese de doutorado de Santos (2021), representa um dos modelos mais recentes da Linguística Cognitiva. Seu objetivo é explorar as dimensões geosociocognitivas da variação e da mudança linguística, utilizando métodos empíricos quantitativos e robustos. Neste estudo, portanto, apresentam-se as razões da necessidade da emergente área, ainda que sinopticamente, mostrando sua inevitabilidade dentro do escopo da Linguística Cognitiva, os modos e os métodos de conciliar os aspectos “cognitivos”, “socioculturais” e “geoespaciais”. Como aplicação ao português apresenta-se um panorama de uma pesquisa sobre a variação onomasiológica conceptual dentro do domínio da sexualidade, mais especificamente dos órgãos genitais-sexuais feminino e masculino, fazendo usufruto de uma amostra sociodialetológica representativa de 72 colaboradores inquiridos e residentes da Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brasil, desde uma perspectiva do modelo de descrição linguística em tema.Palavras-chave: Variação onomasiológica. As funções semântica e pragmática nas escolhas linguísticas na interpretação em Libras
Full text linkThis article aims to analyze the linguistic choices adopted in the interpretation in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) related to semantics and pragmatics, in contexts of sign language proficiency assessment. This is a qualitative research study, with an exploratory and descriptive character, supported by a case study. The data were collected from the recording of an evaluation board in the area of translation and interpretation of Libras/Portuguese. The analysis focuses on video excerpts from the authors of this text, who faithfully reproduced the selected materials that are part of the collection of the institution responsible for proficiency assessment. Three excerpts were analyzed, focusing on lexical, semantic, and pragmatic choices. The results reveal that, although the interpreted theme was the same, the candidates resorted to different lexicons and syntactic structures. Some of these choices ended up generating semantic meanings that do not correspond to the source language text. Despite Libras offering multiple linguistic resources, such as topicalization, deixis, and anaphora, among others, the two candidates did not resort to them, often falling back on signed Portuguese. This research intends to contribute to studies involving the translation and interpretation of the Libras-Portuguese language pair.Keywords: Libras. Translation. Interpretation. Semantics. Pragmatics.O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar as escolhas linguísticas adotadas na interpretação em Libras relacionadas à semântica e à pragmática, em contextos de avaliação de proficiência na língua de sinais. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de caráter exploratório e descritivo, apoiada em um estudo de caso. Os dados foram constituídos a partir da gravação de uma banca de avaliação na área de tradução e interpretação de Libras/Português. A análise centra-se em recortes de vídeos das autoras, deste texto, as quais reproduziram, de forma fidedigna, os materiais selecionados que fazem parte do acervo da instituição responsável pela avaliação da proficiência. Foram analisados três excertos com foco nas escolhas lexicais, sintáticas, semânticas e pragmáticas. Os resultados revelam que, embora se trate da mesma temática interpretada, os candidatos recorreram a léxicos e estruturas sintáticas diferentes. Algumas dessas escolhas acabaram por gerar significados semânticos que não condizem com o texto da língua fonte. Apesar de a Libras oferecer múltiplos recursos linguísticos, como topicalização, dêixis e anáfora, entre outros, os dois candidatos não recorreram a eles, recaindo, muitas vezes, no português sinalizado. Pretende-se, a partir desta pesquisa, contribuir com os estudos que envolvem a tradução e a interpretação do par linguístico Libras-Português.Palavras-chave: Libras. Tradução. Interpretação. Full text linkThis interview discusses the academic journey of Professor Lilian Ferrari, detailing the main stages of this path up to her initial contact with Cognitive Linguistics and her decision to focus her research in this área. More specifically, considering the theoretical strands that make up the field, relevant publications associated with Mental Spaces Theory (Fauconnier, 1994, 1997; Fauconnier & Turner, 2002) and Cognitive Grammar (Langacker, 1987, 1991) are highlighted, as well as the publication of the book ‘Introdução à Linguística Cognitiva’ (Ferrari, 2011). The interview also details more recent research and publications related to multimodality, focusing mainly on the relationship between metaphor and gestures (Cienki & Müller, 2008). Finally, the dialogue between Cognitive Linguistics and related fields (Psychology, Philosophy, Computer Science, etc.) is discussed, as well as possible contributions of the field to the teaching of first and foreign languages, translation, interpretation, Brazilian Sign Language (Libras), and social issues related to linguistic prejudice.Esta entrevista aborda a trajetória acadêmica da Profa. Lilian Ferrari, detalhando as principais etapas envolvidas nesse percurso até o contato inicial com a Linguística Cognitiva e a opção por concentrar suas pesquisas nessa área. Mais especificamente, considerando-se as vertentes teóricas que constituem o campo, apontam-se publicações relevantes associadas à Teoria dos Espaços Mentais (Fauconnier, 1994, 1997; Fauconnier e Turner, 2002) e à Gramática Cognitiva (Langacker, 1987, 1991), bem como a publicação do livro “Introdução à Linguística Cognitiva” (Ferrari, 2011). O presumíbel galego extenso de Gregorio de Lobariñas Feijjó
Full text linkGregorio de Lobariñas Feijó (ca. 1577 – ca. 1637) was a cleric who wrote in Galician a History of Galicia that received the prescriptive license for publication in 1626 but never reached the printing press and was finally lost. Recently he was also identified as the author of the manipulated and linguistically modernized copy of the Chronicle of Santa Maria de Iria (15th century) which is deposited in the Vatican Apostolic Library (Barb. Lat. 3578). In this article I explain that there are consistent indications that allow us to affirm that the kingdom of Galicia whose history Lobariñas recounted in the first of these two works was the medieval kingdom prior to Portuguese independence (1139), which included the north of Portugal. I also explain why it can be presumed that Lobariñas thought that the same language, an extensive Galician, was spoken throughout this northwestern Iberian territory.Gregorio de Lobariñas Feijó (ca. 1577 – ca. 1637) foi un clérigo que escribiu en galego unha Historia de Galicia que recibiu a preceptiva licenza de publicación en 1626 mais nunca chegou á imprenta e acabou perdéndose. Recentemente foi tamén identificado como o autor da copia manipulada e lingüisticamente modernizada da Crónica de Santa María de Iria (séc. XV) que está depositada na Biblioteca Apostólica Vaticana (Barb. Lat. 3578). Neste artigo mostro que existen indicios consistentes que permiten afirmar que o reino de Galicia cuxa historia relataba Lobariñas na primeira destas dúas obras era o reino altomedieval anterior á independencia portuguesa (1139), que abranguía o norte de Portugal. Mostro tamén que se pode presumir que Lobariñas pensaba que en todo este territorio ibérico noroccidental se falaba unha mesma lingua, un galego extenso

Full text linkThis essay aims to mark in the process of writing itself the complex relationship between individual and society in the processes of linguistic variation and change. For that, it stablishes a dialogue with the Hermann Paul’s work and the seminal WLH (1968) paper. The main question, so relevant to Paul, is the locus of linguistic change, from that WLH (1968) build their model, aiming to be distant of the psychological neogrammarian view of linguistic change. Under Paul’s view, the place of linguistic change is the individual and his linguistic organism. In this case, it is necessary to explain the fact that one organism acts over another one. To answer this question, he needs to resort the notion of linguistic use. In WLH (1968) paper, there is a several critique of this concept and the lack of an articulation between the linguistic community – to them the locus of the linguistic change – and the individual. This essay promenades over these topics, highlighting the fact that we are so far to understand exactly how this relationship happens. In fact, there is an underlying hypothesis to the work at all: both variation and linguistic change have mysteries which understanding we at most achieve to be near.O ensaio procura traduzir na própria escrita a complexa relação entre indivíduo e sociedade no processo de variação e mudança. Estabelece, assim, um diálogo com Hermann Paul e com o célebre artigo de WLH (1968). A principal questão é o locus da mudança linguística, tão cara a Paul, a partir da qual, WLH(1968) constroem seu arcabouço teórico, procurando distanciar-se da perspectiva psicológica da visão neogramática da mudança. Sob a construção teórica de Paul, o lugar da mudança é o indivíduo e seu organismo linguístico. Mas, nesse caso, é preciso dar conta de como um organismo linguístico age sobre outro; para tanto lança mão da noção de uso linguístico. Em WLH (1968), há uma crítica contundente a essa noção e à falta de uma articulação entre a comunidade linguística - para eles o locus da mudança linguística - e o indivíduo. O ensaio passeia por esses temas, procurando chamar a atenção para o fato de que estamos muito longe de entender exatamente como se dá tal relação. Na verdade, subjaz a toda a elaboração a ideia de que tanto variação quanto mudança linguística contêm mistérios de cuja compreensão no máximo conseguiremos nos aproximar
Edição fac-similar e paleográfica da Coletânea de documentos da Intendência Municipal de Sabará (1890)
Full text linkThe Coletânea de documentos da Intendência Municipal de Sabará is a set of twenty varied documents – letters, official letters, circulars, certificates, receipts - all from the year 1890 referring to the current municipalities of Ibirité and Contagem, located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The subjects are also quite diverse, ranging from the creation of the district of Vargem da Pantana, belonging to the parish of Contagem, which would become the municipality of Ibirité, to issues related to the population census. This provides evidence of facts that contribute to a better understanding of the history of Minas Gerais at the end of the 19th century and of the Portuguese language of the time. This heterogeneous set of printed and handwritten texts, stored at the Instituto Histórico Geográfico de Minas Gerais, located in the city of Belo Horizonte-MG, has been transcribed and edited according to the proposed norms, allowing for the presentation of a paleographic edition in parallel with the facsimile. These editions can be consulted by historians, geographers and linguists, as well as those interested in general. The contents of the folios and pages are detailed, as is presented an onomastic index of people, places and institutions.A Coletânea de documentos da Intendência Municipal de Sabará é um conjunto de vinte documentos variados – cartas, ofícios, circulares, certificados, recibos -- todos do ano de 1890 referentes aos atuais municípios de Ibirité e de Contagem, situados no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Os assuntos também são bastante diversificados, indo desde a criação do distrito de Vargem da Pantana, pertencente à freguesia de Contagem, que viria a se tornar o município de Ibirité, até questões relacionadas ao recenseamento da população. Tem-se assim testemunhos de fatos que colaboram para o melhor entendimento da história das Minas Gerais do final do século XIX e também da língua portuguesa da época. Este conjunto heterogêneo de textos impressos e manuscritos, acondicionados no Instituto Histórico Geográfico de Minas Gerais, situado na cidade de Belo Horizonte-MG, foram transcritos e editados conforme as normas propostas, permitindo a apresentação de uma edição paleográfica em paralelo com a fac-similar que poderá ser consultada por historiadores, geógrafos e linguistas, mas também interessados em geral. Inicialmente, o foco recai sobre a articulação desses artefatos ao longo do tempo. Em seguida, são discutidos aspectos técnicos relacionados à produção das estátuas, incluindo matérias-primas e métodos de fabricação. Por fim, o estudo se volta para um exemplo específico: a estatuária de Domícia Longina, imperatriz romana, a fim de exemplificar as questões abordadas anteriormente

Full text linkBeyond the Perfect Body: Contemporary Perspectives on Ableism in the Social Sciences In recent years, interest in critical studies on ableism has grown. This article analyzes the issue through three key dimensions identified after a narrative review of academic literature: the anthropological, which questions traditional notions of ability and disability; the psychosocial, which reevaluates social interactions through respect and equality; and the sociopolitical, which highlights the need to dismantle structures that perpetuate discrimination.En los últimos años ha crecido el interés por los estudios críticos sobre el capacitismo. Este artículo analiza la cuestión desde tres dimensiones clave identificadas tras una revisión narrativa de la literatura académica: la antropológica, que cuestiona las nociones tradicionales de capacidad y discapacidad; la psicosocial, que reevalúa las interacciones sociales desde el respeto y la igualdad; y la sociopolítica, que subraya la necesidad de desmontar las estructuras que perpetúan la discriminación.Além do corpo perfeito: Perspectivas contemporâneas sobre o capacitismo nas ciências sociais Nos últimos anos, cresceu o interesse por estudos críticos sobre o capacitismo. Pandemia e tratamento jurídico desigual: uma análise de habeas corpus impetrados no Tribunal de Justiça do Mato Grosso do Sul (2020-2022)
Full text linkPandemic and Unequal Legal Treatment: An Analysis of Habeas Corpus Impetrated in the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso Do Sul (2020-2022) The article problematizes how unequal legal and judicial treatment was reproduced during the Covid-19 Pandemic. To this end, it analyzes how CNJ Recommendation 62 was applied in habeas corpus trials at the Court of Justice of Mato Grosso do Sul. Through quantitative and qualitative analyses, it was found that the vast majority of people arrested during the Pandemic, even though they were members of risk groups, their requests were denied on grounds associated, among others, with the guarantee of public order, the dangerousness of the agent, the nonimposing nature of the Recommendation 62 and the lack of proof that the prisons were unsanitary.Este artigo problematiza como o tratamento jurídico e judicial desigual se reproduziu durante a Pandemia de Covid-19. Para tanto, analisa como a Recomendação 62 do Conselho Nacional de Justiça foi aplicada em habeas corpus julgados no Tribunal de Justiça de Mato Grosso do Sul. Por meio de análises quantitativa e qualitativa, constatou-se que a grande maioria das pessoas presas durante a Pandemia, ainda que integrantes de grupos de risco, teve os pedidos denegados com fundamentos associados, entre outros, à garantia da ordem pública, à periculosidade do agente, ao caráter não impositivo da Recomendação 62 e à ausência de comprovação de que as prisões eram insalubres
