    Pengaruh Media Gambar terhadap Kemampuan Membaca Siswa Sekolah Dasar Kelas III Laboratorium FKIP Universitas Negeri Makassar

    Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen yang menjelaskan bagaimana pengaruh media gambar terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa sekolah dasar kelas III. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah media gambar dapat meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa SD Kelas III di SD Inpres 1 Fakfak. Labor FKIP Universitas Negeri Makasar. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah The Pre Test- Post Test Design, yang melibatkan 26 orang siswa. Eksperimen dilakukan dengan memberikan media gambar untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca anak. Analisis data pada penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan analisis uji beda (UJI-T) menggunakan seri program statistik SPSS 17 for windows untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari media gambar terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa. Berdasarkan analisis data diperoleh hasil uji-t sebesar 17.86 (p=0,000) dan bila dilihat persentasi peningkatannya dari skor rata-rata 6 sebelum menggunakan media, kemudian meningkat menjadi 8.5 berarti terdapat peningkatan sebesar 2.5 (dua koma lima). Kesimpulannya, bahwa dengan media gambar dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan membaca siswa sekolah dasar kelas III, Laboratorium FKIP Universitas Negeri Makasar

    Pronunciation Ability Improvement by Resso Application at The Parepare Senior High School Students

    This research was aimed to find out the improvement of students’ pronunciation ability. This research applied quantitative approach and used quasi experimental design. The population was taken from the second-grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Parepare. The samples in this research were 72 students of experimental and control class. The researcher analyzed the data used t-test formula. The result of the research showed that the English songs technique can improve students’ pronunciation. The mean score of experimental class is 89.72 and the mean score of control class is 54.027. It means that the mean score of experimental class is higher than control class. For the level significant (ɑ) 5% and df = 34 and the value of table is 1,697 while the value of t-test 22,54. It means that the t-test value was greater that t-table value 1,697 table (22,54 ≥ 1.697). On the other word, (Ha) was accepted and (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference between students’ pronunciation ability that were taught through Resso’s English song and students who were not taught trough Resso’s English song at SMA Negeri 2 Parepare. It can be underlined that the usage Resso Application gives a great contribution in teaching and learning process on the students’ pronunciation improvement because Resso Application has a good effect. It becomes important for the teachers to increase and develop students’ pronunciation ability

    Effectiveness of Task-based Approach in Teaching Translation: A Study of Tanzanian Secondary EFL Classrooms

    This research aimed at examining the activities used by teachers in teaching translation in English subject in Tanzanian high schools (also known as advanced secondary schools) and their effectiveness in enhancing translation competences to students. This study used qualitative approach with a case study design to collect data. The research subjects were 3 teachers and 60 students in 3 advanced secondary schools in Dodoma City. The students were grouped in small groups consisting of 4-5 students each who were tasked to translate or evaluate texts in the classroom. The data were collected through classroom observation and document review. The data were analyzed through conventional content analysis. The findings showed that the teachers tasked students to translate and back translate sentences, paragraphs, and evaluate them. These activities equipped students with lower order translation sub-competences such as bilingual, extralinguistic, and translation knowledge sub-competences as reflected in the model of translation competence suggested by Albir et al. (2020). Translating activities engage students in both hands-on and minds-on learning which prepares them for real-life translation activities

    Formal Language Use in Conversations among Second-Semester Students at English Education Study Program of Universitas Nias

    This study aims to describe the use of formal language in conversations among college students semester II at English education study program of Universitas Nias. This research used comprehensive qualitative method. Data were taken from video conversations to evaluate how students apply formal language in formal situations. The results show that students begin to use formal language with respect and professionalism through the use of standard vocabulary, complex sentence structures, and correct grammar. The study also highlights the factors that influence the use of formal language, as well as the importance of practice and feedback in developing formal speaking skills and preparing students for future professional environments. By emphasizing formal language practice and providing constructive feedback, teaching can help students build competence and confidence in a variety of communication contexts

    Boosting Tourism Village Appeal: Strategies for Effective English Language Content Creation

    This research focuses on improving the promotion of tourism villages using technology to create English-language content. The research uses the Four-D model to create a website-based digital promotional media for Tumori Village in North Sumatra. The website showcases the village's uniqueness, traditional houses, history, etc. The results show that the website can boost tourism promotion globally, contribute to the local economy, and increase village visibility on search engines and social media. The research aims to provide guidance for other villages in developing effective English-language content, enhancing their appeal to international travelers and bringing sustainable benefits to local communities

    Teachers’ Strategies in ESP Learning Program in Indonesia: A Comparative Study

    This research article examines various strategies utilized by English teachers in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learning programs in Indonesia, focusing on the Social and Science study programs. The study used a qualitative research design to conduct in-depth interviews with 25 English teachers, which aim to investigate and compare the pedagogical approaches used to satisfy the unique linguistic and contextual requirements of these two academic disciplines. Through purposive sampling, English teachers from both Social and Science study programs participate in semi-structured interviews, providing rich insights into their instructional methods. The purpose of the qualitative analysis is to reveal trends, similarities, and differences in the strategies used, providing a detailed understanding of the complexities of ESP teaching methods. The findings reveal illumination on the specific strategies employed by English teachers in the Social and Science study programs, demonstrating how these strategies are shaped by curriculum complexity and the backgrounds of the learners. The comparative study highlights the significance of pedagogical techniques tailored to individual contexts and serves as a basis for making well-informed decisions in curriculum development and teacher training. This study has wider implications for improving English for Specific Purposes (ESP) learning programs in Indonesia and adds to the continuing discussion on effective language teaching. This study also provides helpful recommendations for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers aiming to enhance language learning experiences in ESP environments

    The Effectiveness of Wizer.me in Developing Electronic Learning Materials: A Study with English Teacher

    The primary objective of this research is to investigate out teachers' responses to the ease of use and flexibility of Wizer.me in compiling LKPD. Then analyze the perceptions of students' learning outcomes in using Interactive Student Worksheets (LKPD) with the wizer.me application on English learning materials. In this research, a qualitative approach was employed, utilizing a case study method. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 30 Makassar, involving one teacher and five students 8th grade as informants. Data were collected through interviews recorded using Voice Note on WhatsApp, a voice recorder, and picture documentation. The researchers gave six questions for both students and teachers to gather in-depth insights. The results of this study show that Wizer.me is a highly beneficial tool for both teachers and students in the context of English language education. The research findings highlight several key advantages: Easy to use, versatility, Resources accessibility, multimedia integration, and efficiency.  Therefore Wizer.me proves to be an effective tool to make interactive worcksheet (LKPD) in English language education, offering ease of use, flexibility, and enhanced learning experiences. The study suggests that Wizer.me's benefits extend beyond English, making it suitable for subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences. Future researchers should consider exploring its application in these areas to further validate its effectiveness and versatility in education

    Challenges and Benefits of Blended Learning in University EFL Reading Comprehension: A Mixed-Method Study

    This study investigates the challenges and benefits experienced by students in the implementation of blended learning (BL) in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) reading classes. The research focuses on exploring the experiences of first year university students engaged in BL-based reading comprehension. Using a mixed-method approach, data was collected from 36 participants enrolled in a noncredit reading skills course integrated with a BL platform over 16-weeks. Participants completed a 16-item questionnaire, and a subset of ten students engaged in a focus group discussion to delve deeper into the challenges and benefits of BL. Descriptive statistics (e.g., frequency, percentages) were employed for quantitative data analysis, while qualitative data were analyzed through thematic identification. The findings revealed significant challenges including technology issues, language barriers, and initial confusion with BL tools. Participants emphasized the critical need for reliable technology infrastructure, support for digital literacy, and language assistance to mitigate these obstacles. Despite these challenges, participants acknowledged BL's advantages, particularly its flexibility and accessibility in enhancing reading comprehension. Recommendations arising from the study advocate for personalized learning paths, collaborative activities, clear communication, and ongoing assessment to optimize BL implementation. Thus, this research underscores BL's potential in improving reading skills, highlighting the imperative of tailored support to effectively address implementation challenges. The study could also become more thorough and broadly applicable to other Ethiopian universities by increasing the sample size and extending the intervention period

    This study examines the short story "Hills Like White Elephants" by Ernest Hemingway through the lens of structuralism, focusing on the concept of binary opposition. As a narrative text, Hemingway's story utilizes a minimalist style to convey complex themes, leaving much of its meaning open to interpretation. This analysis employs Saussure's theory of structuralism to explore the contrasting elements within the story, such as the opposing desires of the characters, Jig and the American man, in relation to their decision about an unplanned pregnancy. Through a close textual analysis, the research identifies key binary oppositions present in the dialogue and symbolism of the story, including certainty versus uncertainty, power versus vulnerability, and pragmatism versus emotional depth. These Binary opposition highlight the underlying tensions in the relationship and the broader themes of freedom and responsibility. By examining these binaries, this study reveals the nuanced ways in which Hemingway constructs meaning and tension, offering insights into the complexities of human relationships and the challenges of communication. The findings underscore the significance of structural analysis in understanding the intricate layers of meaning in literary texts

    PENGARUH KONTROL DIRI TERHADAP PERILAKU PERUNDUNGAN PADA SISWA KELAS XI SMA NEGERI 1 BANGSRI

    Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini yaitu Adakah hubungan kontrol diri dengan perilaku perundungan siswa kelas XI SMA N 1 Bangsri?. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan kontrol diri dengan perilaku perundungan siswa kelas XI SMA N 1 Bangsri. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif dengan desain penelitian korelasional. Populasi data penelitian sejumlah 346 siswa, meliputi kelas XI IPA 1, XI IPA 2, XI IPA 3, XI IPA 4, XI IPA 5, XI IPS 1, XI IPS 2, XI IPS 3, XI IPS 4, XI BAHASA. Sampel uji coba (Try out) berjumlah 32 siswa kelas XI IPA 4. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sejumlah 72 siswa yang diambil dengan teknik cluster random sampling. Alat pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah skala Kontrol Diri dan skala Perilaku Perundungan. Hasil uji korelasi person product moment, diperoleh nilai korelasi r hitung 0,625. Sedangkan nilai r tabel untuk jumlah sampel 72 siswa dengan taraf signifikan 5% maka diperoleh nilai r tabel sebesar 0,235. Oleh karena itu r hitung ˃ r tabel atau 0,625 ˃ 0,235 apabila Hasil dari nilai r hitung jika ditinjau dari r tabel koefisien korelasi, maka tingkat hubungan korelasi nya kuat. Dari hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan kontrol diri dengan perilaku perundungan pada siswa kelas XI di SMAN 1 Bangsri. Hubungan tersebut menunjukkan hubungan yang negatif, karena semakin tinggi kontrol diri siswa maka semakin rendah perilaku perundungan siswa atau sebaliknya semakin rendah kontrol diri maka semakin tinggi perilaku perundungan siswa.   Kata Kunci : kontrol diri, perundungan, perilaku perundunga
