An Annotated Translation of Bicycle Shop Murder
Background: This research article is focusing on annotated translation to describe and give plausible reasons in solving the translation problems.
Purpose: The purposes of this study are: (1) to attain information concerning the difficulties faced by the researcher while translating the source text, and (2) to give plausible translation reasons to the difficulties.
Design and methods: Introspective and retrospective methods are employed to explore the plausible translation on Bicycle Shop Murder novel. Data findings are validated using translation strategies by Chesterman.
Results:As the researcher tries to figure out problems during the process of translation by giving annotation for each data, it shows that from the 30 data chosen to be analyzed, there are: two (2) literal translation, two (2) loan, two (2) calque, two (2) transposition, two (2) clause structure change, two (2) phrase structure change, two (2) synonymy, two (2) antonymy, four (4) distribution change consisting of two (2) compression and two (2) expansion, two (2) paraphrase, two (2) naturalization, two (2) coherence change, two (2) explicitness change from implicit into explicit, and two (2) interpersonal change used to solve these problems
The analysis of translation in short story of Jim Anderson “The Ladybug Prayer” based on social, culture and information studies
Background: It is always attracted in choosing short story entitled “A Ladybug prayer”, since the feels and story which really interesting and appreciate with structure of words, the sentence in English and limit from point of view in translator and translation, and how to find a good equality of meaning from the beginning in English into Indonesian. The Ladybug Prayer communicates a story around a boy who will “saved” in church. In spite of, he don’t identify or really know that he will saved from something, and finally, he knows about saved, through the ladybug prayer. This story, however based on true story. Sometimes you must be cautious and watch with what you pray of.
Purpose: It is really interested to translate this story since the writer want to identify problems which are found in translating in the Ladybug prayer with the Indonesian version.
Design and methods: The writer used the library in this research with reference to find and look for books that have relative and connection in translation and its connection in social, culture and information studies.
Results: The short story entitled “A Ladybug prayer” has a very beautiful story with simple and complicated words
Revitalization of ancient Indonesian characters and the maintenance efforts in past 10 years
Background: This mixing of cultures will also create a cultural reproduction that has the potential for diversity. This culturally diverse country, of course, has a lot of characters from various regions and cultures.
Purpose: this research is expected to be a means to reopen the repertoire of the diversity of characters in Indonesia that has begun to be forgotten. In this study, the author will reveal a number of efforts to maintain the Indonesian script.
Design and methods: the research design were using the library research method. Sources of data used in this study are in the form of documents, books, journals, digital applications obtained through the internet network.
Results: The heritage of Indonesian characters is very diverse with the plurality of tribes in Indonesia. With the support of the development of information technology, the revitalization of Indonesian script culture is very possible to be popularized again
Translation techniques of manual text
Background: Translators often deal with various types of texts, such as academic texts, journalistic texts, subtitle texts, legal texts, speech texts, literary texts, and manual texts. Manual text could be one of many interesting subjects of research in translation field. Translating manual text should follow the principles, such as communicative, short, concise, easy to read, reader-oriented, and natural in target language.
Purpose: This study examines the translation technique of 12 excerpt of Cosmos oven manual text in the form of phrases, clauses, and sentences translated from English into Indonesia.
Design and Method: This study uses 18 translation techniques to analyze the data that was taken from Cosmos oven manual text.
Results: The results of the study showed that there are five translation techniques found in Cosmos oven manual texts: amplification (30%), modulation (27%), reduction (27%), borrowing (8%), and literal translation (8%). Cosmos oven manual text mostly used amplification technique. The role of parents in educating children during online classes
Background: The role of parents nowadays is as a substitute for teachers at school. In order to always guide and teach assignments given by the teacher online. With parental guidance, this online learning will run well, safely, and effectively. In fact, many parents experience difficulties because they are busy working so that they cannot accompany their children directly. In addition, parents are so busy with daily routines. The role of parents, especially mothers, is now increasing, who previously only took care of the house, now have shifted to educating and accompanying their children for online learning.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the perspective of parents as companions of children at home and to determine the role of parents in implementing learning at home during a pandemic.
Design and methods: The method used in this research is a narrative method with a qualitative approach, with a case study type approach. This approach seeks to describe and elaborate on a complex case from various dimensions. In this case, the research analyzes the role of parents in educating their children during online classes. Learning at home makes parents find many difficulties in teaching children about the material provided by the teacher. Children usually have direct interaction with their teachers.
Results: The role of parents in educating their children online is very important. When the school is face-to-face, the teacher is the one who pays attention to the students to what extent the students understand the lessons, but if online parents have to really educate, direct. Role of verb in personification used in sharia economic topics on KONTAN news site
Background: The linguistic registers related to the aspects of sharia economic including their figurative language become a problem when the readers are not a native speaker of Bahasa Indonesia.
Purpose: This study focuses on the personification in the news of sharia economy found on Kontan website.
Design and methods: It is used descriptive analytical study to analyze the topics. There are 20 data analyzed in this article, most of articles from KONTAN new site in several information or headlines
Results: The result of analysis shows the role of verb in personification adds more layers of meaning. The recontextualization also occurs consistently in this clause. This syntactic impact on semantic meaning is evidently caused by verb’s grammatical function in the clause since the verb governs the subject and the object in the clause. This role shows the effect on semantic meaning producing recontextualization. These more layers of context also expand the layers of meaning into secondary meaning and so on. The analysis shows the verb’s syntactic properties cause the expansion of meaning and multiple layers of contexts. The underlying cognitive mechanism of this process is the role of verb in syntax also shows the function as the cognitive reference point of human action. Therefore, the projection of human action onto non-animate objects like common bank and sharia bank can occur and become cognitively accessible.
Students translation habituation in learning
Background: Information accessed by students does not rule out the possibility of a number of local and foreign languages. Students optimize the use of smartphones by scanning certain pages in foreign books.
Purpose: this study aims to reveal the phenomena that encourage changes in students' translation habituation in learning.
Design and methods: This research was conducted using a descriptive analysis method, by conducting a survey of undergraduate students at 6 campuses. The data in this study were in the form of a questionnaire and a number of documents from journals and books. The valid data are then analysed to draw generalizations.
Results: This study reveals the habituation of using machine translators that are commonly used by students. This translation habituation has two sides, 1) lecture assignments that require information or those that are required to use English can be carried out and 2) students lack information due to lack of understanding of knowledge about the quality of translation
Translation strategies of cultural words in Tarian Bumi novel and its translation
Background: Translation is an activity of changing meaning from source language into target language. There are a lot of problems encounter by the translator in translating text such as problem in translating literature text, cultural items, idiomatic expression, and many others. Tarian Bumi is an Indonesian novel written by Oke Rusmini where in the novel there are a lot of cultural words, cultural items, especially Balinese culture.
Purpose: The purposes of this research article are to categorize the cultural words using Newmark’s theory and to analyze the translation strategies of those cultural words in Tarian Bumi novel and its translation.
Design and methods: This research article applied qualitative methods and using documentation technique in collecting the data. In categorizing the cultural words, Newmark’s theory is applied. To find out the translation strategies used by the translator, the theory of Baker of Translation strategy is used.
Results: The cultural words found in Tarian Bumi novel and its translation are 58 data. From Newmark’s theory of cultural words category, there are 4 categories found, they are: ecology with 1 data, material culture with 14 data, social culture with 6 data, and organization, concept, ideas with 35 data. After the data are categorized based on the cultural category, then writer analyzed the translation strategies. The result is there are only 5 translation strategies found. The strategies found are: 1) translation by more general word 9 data, 2) translation by using cultural substitution 12 data, 3) translation by using loan word or loan word plus explanation 25 data, 4) descriptive equivalent 11 data, 5) translation by omission with only 1 data
Reading difficulties and factors affecting reading difficulties of students of grade 1 elementary school
Background: Learning to read in elementary schools which is carried out at the first grade level is an early stage of reading learning or called beginning reading.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the extent to which new students in elementary school (grade 1) were able to read and to know the difficulties faced by students when reading and its factors.
Design and methods: The method used is a qualitative method using descriptive analysis. In this study, researchers went directly to the center of the field individually to obtain data from research subjects, while the subjects in this study were 1st grade elementary school students, 1st grade parents in several schools in East Bogor. The data collection technique used by the researcher is interviewing parents of grade 1 elementary school students and direct observation of students' abilities.
Results: The reading ability of grade 1 elementary school students who have been observed in the reading test there are some students who are fluent in reading without help and without stuttering. There are two factors that affect reading difficulties, internal factors and external factors. Internal factors can be seen from the physical students. Physical weakness can affect reading difficulties. External factors of students that can affect reading difficulties are factors from the social environment and the most influential is the role of parents who accompany children to read at home. Parents who do not participate in the development of students' reading will hinder students' reading skills. 
Parents’ perception on grade 5 students’ learning activity using WhatsApp
Background: Various educational applications have been provided by the government that can be accessed and used by teachers or students as support for the online learning process. Most of the educators in elementary schools only use the WhatsApp group application.
Purpose: This study aims to determine how parents respond to online learning through Whatsapp groups during the pandemic.
Design and methods: This study uses a narrative analysis method with a qualitative approach. The population of this study were 20 parents of grade 5 students at SDN Tajur 01. The data were collected through indirect interviews in the form of a digital questionnaire distributed via WhatsApp. To find out the validity of the information from the questionnaire results, it was analyzed then summarized and arranged regularly. The questionnaire information is considered legal because it comes from the parents of elementary school students.
Results: The results of this study reveal the responses of parents, namely: 1) The majority of parents of grade 5 students said that it was true that teachers only used the WhatsApp application as an online learning medium in elementary schools; 2) The learning process via WhatsApp group starts every morning by providing learning materials and certain assignments through audio, voice and text according to the learning schedule; 3) The rarely detailed video explanation of the lesson given by the teacher causes the child to have difficulty understanding the subject matter; 4) Through WhatsApp groups, which are felt to quickly bore children studying at home; 5) The activeness of children in online learning can be seen by always working on assignments via the WhatsApp group. This research includes only one school in Citeureup. The use of the WhatsApp application as a learning medium for teachers and students should be re-evaluated
