    Teaching English writing with fun to elementary students

    Background: Elementary school students often complain on writing assignments from their teachers. As a consequence, the elementary students are not enthusiastic about understanding English writing. Purpose: This study aims to identify the technique of teaching English writing for elementary students. Design and methods: The method used is library research method as an activity carried out systematically to collect, process, and conclude data using certain methods/techniques. Results: The study reveals elementary students in low grade (I, II, III) uses creative writing, media word games and high class (IV, V, VI) uses collaborative writing.&nbsp

    The analysis of speech act in Thor: Ragnarok

    Background: People attempt to express themselves by producing utterances. The utterances do not only contain grammatical structures and words but people also perform actions through the utterances. In producing an utterance, the speaker regularly anticipates the hearer to recognize his/her intention. The study that covers this is the speech act. Purpose: This research attempted to analyze the classification of speech acts proposed by Searle, namely representatives, directives, expressive, commissives, and declarations in the movie script of Thor: Ragnarok. Design and methods: A qualitative method was used in this research. The object of this study is the movie script of Thor: Ragnarok. Results: The result showed that there are 189 data included in the category Representative which covers 38% out of the total data, 183 data included in the category Directive which covers 37% out of the total data, 77 data included in the category Expressive which covers 15% out of the total data, 50 data included in the category Expressive which covers 10% out of the total data, and 2 data included in the category Declarations

    Background: Program “Belajar dari Rumah” at TVRI is an alternative distance learning for students, teachers and parents during studying at home as the COVID-19 outbreak. Purpose: This research aims to determine the perceptions or opinions of parents about the program. This research is hopefully can be used as evaluation material to improve and to perfect the program. Design and methods: In its implementation, this research used a case study with an analytical descriptive method that intends to describe the results of the study and tries to find a picture of a situation or phenomenon that is happening. The objects in this study are parents who accompany children during the implementation of distance learning programs. This research reveals a number of parents' perceptions about the the program “Belajar dari Rumah” on TVRI. This research was conducted in two areas in Lampung Province, Metro City and East Lampung Regency. Results: A number of parents who have watched and accompanied their children during the implementation of distance learning think that the program is far from perfect

    Background: The importance of multicultural education is given to children from an early age in the hope that children are able to understand that in their environment and also in other environments there is cultural diversity. Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the material used for elementary students in increasing a number of knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed in their ethnic cultural environment, national culture, and other ethnic intercultural cultures. Design and methods: content analysis is research conducted to analyze and understand the text. Content analysis can also be interpreted as a model used to examine data documentation in the form of text, images, symbols, and so on. In this study, content analysis was focused on content and sentences that showed the values of Cultural Diversity Education contained in the thematic textbook for SD / MI class IV curriculum 2013 revision edition 2017. Results: In the book, Theme 1 and Theme 7 introduces various kinds of Indonesian culture such as cultural parades featuring the diversity of Indonesian culture, musical instruments, regional dances, traditional houses, regional specialties, folk songs, regional clothing to ethnic groups in Indonesia. It indicates that the values of education cultural diversity contained in these textbooks is very diverse and must be instilled, better understood about cultural diversity and practiced in each individual and student

    The effectiveness of using image media on beginning word writing skills in grade 1 elementary school students during COVID-19 pandemic

    Background: Writing is an activity that cannot be kept away from teaching and learning activities in schools. Writing activities can make students be active and develop in learning activities and can stimulate the existence of stringing skills and composing words. Purpose: The research aims to investigate the effectiveness of the image media in increasing the writing skills of the first grader of elementary. Design and methods: The research applied case study methods with descriptive analysis techniques. Samples in this study were taken from SDN Cibinong 01 with a population of 20 grade 1 students consisting of 10 male students and 10 female students. Results: The results obtained from the study showed that the effectiveness of the image media used to hone the initial writing skills of grade 1 students at SDN Cibinong 01 as a whole can be said to have been good with a percentage of 85%. This shows the effectiveness of the use of image media is effective enough to be used to hone the initial word writing skills in grade 1 elementary school students during the pandemic

    Background: To some students, learning Indonesian is very boring especially for students who are not used to read and write. Purpose: This study aims to improve the Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes in grade II students at Sukajadi 02 Elementary School in the Indonesian language subject. Design and methods: This classroom action research refers to the Kemmis and Mc Taggart Model which is commonly referred to as the spiral model consisting of four stages. The planning stage, the action stage, the observation stage, the reflection stage. Results: The result showed that Through the Contextual Teaching and Learning Approach, learning Indonesian in reading and writing is easier to apply in everyday life that students encounter. It can improve Indonesian language learning outcomes in literacy

    Background:  Depression and anxiety are complex emotional states in which cognitive evaluations and affective and physiological responses are involved. However, Laney the main character in the movie really made the audience feel emotional when watching. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the types and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Design and methods: In conducting this analysis, the study uses a qualitative description method which means the technique of collecting data or theory from books or journals obtained from internet media sources and analyzing important notes that have been made, and watching movies. Results: This study shows that depression and anxiety are described as a disease that can be experienced by anyone, as a result of the analysis found three types of depression and anxiety and seven symptoms of depression and anxiety in Laney's character, and Laney's illness due to past trauma

    Background:  Fiction text is one of the genres of literary works containing fictional story elements created by the author’s imagination. Fiction is believed to be a reading that adds knowledge, insight, enlightens the soul of the reader, and as an effort to instill values, especially the value of educational character to students. Purpose: This study aims to determine the value of educational characters in fiction stories. Design and methods: This research was conducted using a qualitative approach to content analysis methods or content analysis with descriptive analysis techniques. The source of the data used is the document in the form of a grade 3 thematic book on the chapter of loving plants and animals. Results: The results of the study revealed that in the text of fiction in the thematic book grade 3 theme 2 elementary school there are character values ​​of faith, fear of God Almighty with elements of personal morals, and character values ​​of mutual cooperation with elements of caring and sharing. Meanwhile, the character values ​​that have not yet emerged are global diversity, independence, critical reasoning, and creativity

    Background: The 21st century is marked by a drastic development of computer technology, which caused the growing interest in the hypertext. Despite the fact that it is mainly associated with the informational technology, the hypertext has also been a center of cross-disciplinary researches, as well as in the field of text linguistics. Purpose: Hence, the present article deals with the hypertextuality phenomenon in the emotive prose. Design and methods: By implementing the methods of comparative, structural, contextual, and intertextual analysis, the compositional and linguistic means of its representation are investigated on the basis of the novel by J. Barnes A History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters. Results: Julian Barnes is one of the most popular contemporary British writers. He is considered a postmodernism icon, whereas an American writer and critic J. C. Oates calls him a “pre-postmodernist”. He is an author to more than 20 novels. A History of the World in 10 ½ Chapters (1989) is a novel where the author experimented with a form. The book consists of ten novellas and Parenthesis. As far as the novel is considered an icon of postmodernistic literature, the revelation of a hypertext system there makes it possible to claim hypertextuality a distinctive marker of a postmodernistic perception of the world

    Applied, type and rational-using of code switching in Insecurity novel

    Background: People often used the code in their daily conversation, spoken or written language, formal or informal. When people do code switching, it can make them become bilingual. Purpose: The objective of this paper is to find out how many code switching are applied, types of code switching in dialog between the characters in Insecurity novel of Angelina Johnson included the reasons for using the code switching. Design and methods: The method used in this analysis is qualitative descriptive method with the library and internet research. This analysis focused on analyzing the types of code switching based on the theory of Poplack and reasons for using code switching based on Hoffman theory. Results: The results of analysis found the total in dialog that code switching occurs 141 data from chapter 1 to 19. Total 3 types of code switching, that most widely used is intra-sentential occurs 122 times, then inter-sentential 13 times, while tag switching occurs 6 times. And also found that only six reasons based on Hoffman theory by talking about particular topic found 47 times, quoting somebody else found 3 times, being empathic found 14 times, interjection found 6 times, repetition used for clarification found only once, while intention of clarifying found 14 times
